New Running Shoes

I get excited over new running shoes like Carrie used to get over Manolos. For real. After deciding I desperately needed new ones I did some internet research to compare and contrast my two all time favorites - Asics Gel Nimbus & Adidas Supernova with a new brand - Mizuno. Today I went to the mecca of running shoes to get a new pair - RoadRunner Sports... I am super … [Read more...]

Love Hate Relationship with Cereal

I have a love/hate relationship with cereal. I love it. But, I hate it too. Whenever there is a sugary cereal in my house I will eat it until it's gone (that usually happens quickly). Randomly. When I'm bored/not hungry/whatever. Most of this misses the camera, so I'm not held accountable :( Right now I have a bunch of Nature's Path cereals I won in a contest. When they … [Read more...]

Vegan Chocolate & The Intuitive Eating Process

Your guesses were correct - I made tofu curry for dinner. I squeezed out the excess water in the tofu for one hour. Then, sauteed a sweet onion and chopped some carrots. I put the tofu, onion, carrots, coconut milk and spices into the crockpot on low for 4 hours (until it had thickened and the carrots were soft). This was not an easy mission. Yesterday I made trip to our … [Read more...]

Vegan for a Day

I am participating in Vegan for a Day, part of Vegan Week hosted by Katy and Michelle. I don't eat meat, but do eat dairy, fish and eggs. (I usually refer to myself as a pescatarian.) But, I knew one vegan day would not be hard for me. I actually had a day recently that was completely vegan "by accident" = Breakfast: oat bran made with soy, Lunch was veggie burger/hummus/fruit, … [Read more...]

Chickpea Fail

I roasted a bunch of chickpeas into oblivion today. But, I did still snack on a bunch of them (even in their charred state) as I was cooking dinner so I wasn't hungry when dinner actually rolled around. For din-din I made Spinach & Feta dip with Oikos yogurt... Ingredients: 1 small container plain Oikos, 1 cup frozen spinach, 1/4c mayonnaise, 1/4 c feta & red … [Read more...]

My Little Cottage

I don't know what happened but I hadn't eaten cottage cheese in months and then recently "rediscovered" it and now want to eat it for breakfast everyday! I'm going to switch it up tomorrow since I'm doing vegan Thursday tomorrow as part of Vegan Week. Yes, I know it's supposed to be a whole week, but I don't think that's best for my Intuitive Eating right now. Marathon … [Read more...]

Walk in the Dark

I took an afternoon walk today at 5pm. It was dark. That makes me sad :( But, this new granola cereal makes me happy :) A little too happy actually. Note to self: Granola should not be eaten by the handful out of a box like it's air or out of a cereal bowl like it's Rice Krispies. It's granola. My other afternoon snack was an apple and Amazing Grass. I am only on day 2 of … [Read more...]

Everything in Moderation – Including Moderation

Thanksgiving 08

The big buzz around town right now is - "What's your plan for Thanksgiving?". Many are talking about their plan to "stay on track" and avoid over-doing it on Turkey Day. But, not me. Nope. When R.E.R. does Thanksgiving she does it right. I truly believe in finding a way to enjoy all the foods you love in moderation. I have toyed with cutting out sugar from my diet (or at … [Read more...]

Review: Food and Loathing

I read "Food and Loathing" a few years back, but decided to take it on the road trip this weekend to read it again. The last time I read it I was in therapy for disordered eating (B.E.D. mostly) and I was in a very bad place with it. I don't know if it affected me as much the first time I read it, but I am still going over so many of the author's accounts in my head. The … [Read more...]

Full Time Blogger

I have an announcement to make - I am now I full time blogger! (I am obviously trying to look on the bright side of things.)  I am definitely bummed about my job (or lack thereof), but I am moving forward and not going to dwell on it. In addition to blogging I will be writing for some other sites and doing freelance work. Oh, and looking for another full time job! I already … [Read more...]

Back on Track

After a week while of indulging I am very frustrated with myself. I am constantly eating things I shouldn't be -- not because they are "Forbidden Foods" (I have released all foods to be allowed) but because I am eating because I'm tired, lonely, bored or out of habit. I really want to get back on track with the Intuitive Eating. So, like Caitlin's Back on Track, I wrote out … [Read more...]

Portable Restroom

Sunday morning we woke up and took a walk around Emily & Mark's neighborhood in Portland, CT. It was so nice to get out and walk around after being in the car for so long yesterday. Before we went on the walk I ate Kashi with a banana and milk. I always bring cereal with me on road trips - it's great for snacking or breakfast! Ben seriously has baby fever, while … [Read more...]

Monica Does Connecticut

Have you noticed how I love writing suggestive titles? ‘Cause I do… My Saturday started with a 9 mile run. I changed my long run this week so we could get a early start to CT. So, I ended up doing 9 miles yesterday and 9 miles today. It is completely NOT the same as an 18 miler. But, next week I will get back to a long run. I have to admit it was nice to have a week off … [Read more...]

Lunch at Costco and Trail Mix

Today's lunch consisted of Costco samples and (a lot of) trail mix. After school stuff I went to Anne's House of Nuts and Costco. Seriously, if you live near Jessup, MD you have to go the Anne's outlet. I got a HUGE bag of deelish trail mix for $3.00! I came out with two bags of nuts and dried fruit! Field day. Then, I went to Costco. Gosh! That place is full of people … [Read more...]

Running Lesson #1 : Hydrate!

I know better than this. I am better than this, but today I was totally dehydrated on my run. At first I felt like I was hungry, then I realized I was THIRSTY. Super thirsty. Like, I want to high jack someone's garden hose thirsty. I ended up cutting my run short and doing 9 miles with walk breaks. I was supposed to do 10 today and 10 tomorrow. I have to break up my long run … [Read more...]
