Three Healthy Things Thursday

Hello and welcome to a new day :) After thinking about my last few days I realize I was taking IE for granted and I need to make an effort to get back on the healthy train.  Not everyone has to make such a big effort, but not everyone has to get 8 hours of sleep to avoid binging. Everyone is different.

Here are three healthy things I did for myself today…

1.) Got up and did Jillian’s 30 Day Shred Level 1. Then, made a healthy  breakfast to-go that doesn’t require me to drive with my knees. A green protien smoothie with prowder (protien powder), spinach, almond milk, ice, chia seeds.

And cereals with raisins and cashews on the side…

2.) After my morning class I had one hour before I had to be at work. I decided to get a flu shot and a juice instead of blogging, hence the tardy post. It was twice as nice because I was craving a juice and crossed off “flu shot” from my To Do list.

The juice made me feel great (as always)! But I already feel my left arm getting sore from the shot. That old lady really stuck it to me. That, or the combination of Jillian and a shot in the arm killed my muscle.

3.) I packed my lunch last night to relieve some pressure off my busy morning. In the mix – a can of salmon, mayo and relish. I put the salmon salad on a bed of spinach, onions and tomatoes.

When I was at Whole Foods waiting for my juice, I also grabbed a whole grain granola roll to go with it. This thing is full of grains, seeds and nuts.

It has raisins too! I couldn’t resist a bite :)

3 1/2. Sorry you guys missed out on the rant. I still feel the same way, so I’ll probably address it very soon. I just wrote very stream of conciousness and thought I should write about it when I was less tired and moody :)

Question: What healthy things did you do for yourself today?

Write them even if it’s something you do everyday. We forget to give ourselves credit because we’re so used to being healthy, but you still deserve credit!

i gave myself an extra hour of sleep. it was much needed!

i’m curious as to your reasons for getting a flu shot. i’ve never gotten one but have been thinking about it lately as i’m working in a clinic right now

  2. says

I got a flu shot because since I’m back to school I figured I’d be around a lot more germs.
Also, I hate washing my hands so I figured this is better than that…
    Ha! Just kidding :)

Plus, I think all my running takes a toll on my immune system.

  3. says

Today (and most days) I walk 2 miles to work from the parking garage. It’s a nice little wake-up in the morning and I feel better once I arrive to work.

  4. says

O! A granola roll!? Looks excellent! I’m curious on the nutrition facts!!

Today I got up and also did 30 day shred level 1, at pumpkin oats for breakfast, enjoy a healthy turkey-hummus wrap for lunch, and have been keeping stress free by catching up on blog reading! :) I would say those are healthy!

  5. says

Nothing really out of the normal. I’m still feeling sick so I think I’m going to have to skip the gym again. I haven’t been in a week! Ugh, I really need my stomach to chill out.

  6. says

    1. I thought about what I really wanted to eat before preparing my breakfast and lunch. I realized I haven’t been eating a lot of the foods I really enjoy (black beans, sweet potatoes, baby spinach, fresh dates, coconut butter, energy bars).
    2. I started taking pictures of what I eat to keep myself accountable.
    3. I drank a LOT of water…and some coffee with stevia, because I enjoy it.
    That was fun!

  7. says

I ate breakfast and didn’t have any caffeine or soda today. Lunch could have been healthier and I didn’t run. :( But I did finally go get the antibiotics I needed from the doctor!

  8. Alyssa says

    1. Got up early to work out before work
    2. Took time to relax with my coffee and breakfast before work so I could start the day in a good mood (a favor to myself and to everyone I come in contact with)
    3. Ate a healthy, satisfying, delicious breakfast, lunch, and snack (and soon dinner) filled with fruits, veggies, whole grains, protein, and good fats.
    4. Kept my cell phone in my purse while driving to avoid the temptation of being a distracted driver!

    My three healthy things:
    1. Had my morning green monster which included pumpkln….yum!
    2. Had a great lunch-turkey and salami sandwich on the sandwich thins. I put spinach on instead of lettuce and used hummus instead of mustard or mayo. I had baby carrots and rice works chips as sides. It was a great lunch b/c all I have had is either homemade enchiladas or broccoli casserole all week for lunch and I am sick of it (that is what happens when you make tons of food-you eat it.all.the.time.)
    3. I slept in today to snuggle with my husband. There are 3 days until my first 1/2 marathon and I am getting pre-race jitters and i just want to reserve my energy for Sunday!

  10. says

Oh what a fun post! Here are my healthy things:
    1. My stomach didn’t feel hungry, but my body was shaking, so I ate. It’s hard for me to eat intuitively because my past eating disorder screwed with my hunger signals and my digestive system.
    2. I talked to my boyfriend. Emotional health.
    3. I promptly answered important emails. It is stressful to answer important emails and phone calls, but ultimately more stressful to ignore them.
    4. I drank peppermint tea with truvia for a lunch-dessert. Because peppermint is shown to ease digestive distress, and, well, copious amounts of peanut butter, cookies, and ice cream are not.

I took a power nap this afternoon. I don’t normally feel like I should do that–it seems so lazy, but I feel like if I am super-tired maybe I need to rest. Just like when I am super-hungry, maybe it’s a good idea to eat.

I drank more water than I usually do! I struggle with drinking as much water as I should. I just keep trying.

I took a bunch of vitamins and echinacea. I am worried about the upcoming flu season…

BTW–I got a flu shot last week and was shocked at how sore my arm got and how long it lasted. I feel your pain! :(

Thank you for posting about the IE progress/slides. :) I agree with you when you mention eating heartier breakfast and lunch, lighter at dinner. That one really works for me too. Especially since I tend to work out in the morning, I need more fuel! Otherwise, I’m just struggling with hunger all day and not feeling satisfied with healthy choices. Eating heavier on protein and good grains helps a lot too. We. Must. Eat. Good. Carbs.

  13. says

I like this post! Today I made sure to get in a good amount of protein since that is always something I struggle with. Hello carbs are amazing!! And I did my favorite thing, Krav Fit tonight and it makes me feel amazing.

Three healthy things I did today:
1.) Ran 4 miles and took my pup for a walk!
2.) Refueled with a huge salad that contained a few servings of different colored veggies.
3.) Spent some time with my son, which is good for the soul. :)
