Los Olivos Wine Tour

Hello! I spent the day in Los Olivos with my friend Lisa. But, before I went I did a 10-ish mile run. I’m not sure how much because my Garmin stopped at mile 2. I reset it when I turned around, but I’m not sure the official distance. On the way to meet Lisa I stopped to get scones. Pumpkin Pecan for me. This was a lot better than the WF pumpkin scone I got yesterday. A LOT … [Read more...]

Flashback Friday – Halloween

My cat is still warming up to this place. But, I don’t think he’ll ever warm up to me sticking the camera in his face all the time. Too bad. Before I left for an afternoon class and errands I had a yogurt. I used to love these, but I don’t like them as much any more.  I hit up Whole Foods for some lunch before my appointment this afternoon. It’s right next door … [Read more...]

Ready For Halloween?

Are you ready for Halloween? I’m not. I have no idea what I’m going to be or how much candy I’m going to eat. My little brother won a contest at school today for his costume – a Chilean Miner. I told him to tell the ladies, “I’d like to take you out for a drink. But I can’t, ‘cause I’m a miner.” He didn’t get it. A few years ago he was Michael Phelps. The best Halloween … [Read more...]

Ask a Monican

The OC Weekly is a local alternative magazine in Orange County. I've been reading it since high school when I would pick up a copy at Starbucks like I was actually cool enough to "get it". They have a column called “Ask a Mexican” where people write in and ask Gustavo Arellano (the token Mexican) questions. Some of the questions are serious, but for the most part it’s funny … [Read more...]

Fall in Love

Since I was a little girl my mom told me I was an Autumn or Fall complexion. I learned I looked best in earthy tones. I was called a pumpkin head and carrot top. But, I surprisingly liked the names and embraced my key colors.  I also embraced my dog a little too roughly, but that’s besides the point…   So, I guess this is part of the reason I love Fall so much. … [Read more...]

Tofu Tuesday and Too Many Treats

I love leftovers! Today I used the leftover bean, bell pepper and onion mix I cooked for my Mexican Meatless quesadillas for lunch. I micro-waved a sweet potato and topped with it the black bean mix. I don’t know why black beans and sweet potatoes go together so well, but they do. Since the pears are at peak ripeness I can’t stay away. (I also had a small bowl of cereal … [Read more...]

Commit To Fit – Lululemon Giveaway!

Hello Friends :) I did not want to wake up this morning and even pressed snooze – that NEVER happens! But, I finally dragged myself out of bed and did Jillian’s 30 Day Shred Level 1. I mentioned challenging myself to the Shred before the marathon, but ended up stopping because my knee kept feeling achy. Well, now it’s back and I’m going to do it 3 times a week for the next 30 … [Read more...]

Mexican Meatless Monday – Black Bean Quesadillas

Hola! Bienvenido a Mexican Meatless Monday! La Cena de esta noche : Black Bean Quesadillas The other day I said I was a firework as the reason for my athletic achievements, but today I’m convinced it’s because I’m Mexican. Cain Velasquez proved it really is the “size of the fight in the dog” this weekend becoming the first Mexican-American to win the UFC heavy weight … [Read more...]

Eat What You Love

Good Morning and Happy Monday! I have a lot of things to do, so I’ll make this quick. I started my week with a 4 mile run that ended with some stomach issues. This has never happened before, so it was alarming. Let’s just say I raced home and kicked Ben out of the bathroom. Not sexy. I really wanted pumpkin cream cheese for breakfast, but I tried to talk myself out of it for … [Read more...]

You Shouldn’t Have

I had the best intentions today. Really, I did. But, as I looked over the pictures I realize, I Shouldn’t Have… First off, I shouldn’t have ran because today is a rest day. Oh wait. I didn’t. Got ya ;) I take rest days very seriously. I should take church more seriously because I didn’t go today. I should have. I made pumpkin pancakes this morning for my usual leisurely … [Read more...]

Ben’s Package

Ben got busted earlier this week because of his package. Yes, you read that right. He got a package this week that I thought we decided against – Nutella to go. Look at his guilty face enjoying the sweet tea that comes in the snack pack. I have to admit, even at room temperature the tea was good.   I think this picture speaks for itself. Nutella on a stick? Yes. … [Read more...]

Baby, You’re A Firework

Hello! Last night Ben surprised me by remembering we had a date planned and I didn’t get to post again yesterday. He offered to take me to my favorite restaurant, Whole Foods Hot Bar, but since we wanted to see a movie too we opted for something that made more sense location wise: The Veggie Grill. The Veggie Grill is a vegetarian chain in SoCal. The only thing you … [Read more...]

No 5K Friday

In keeping with the Zero Week training plan I skipped a run this morning and opted for a morning yoga session. I only go to Level 1 classes right now, so it’s more of a stretch session than a work out, but it’s the only way I’ll a.) ever stretch and b.) actually coax myself to go to yoga. Pre-yoga fuel to go: Smoothie and PB&PB. After yoga I went to Trader Joe’s. They … [Read more...]

Confession Thursday: Guacamole Race

It’s that time again. Confession Thursday is upon us once again and I thought I’d spill in a stream of consciousness/ random BS way. But first, can I give some love to my lunch? Egg scramble with tons of guacamole. And that brings me to… Confession #1: It’s basically a race to the guacamole whenever we have it because both Ben and I are obsessed. This is one of the few … [Read more...]

A Toe and a Tip

Hello! Today was my first post-marathon run. I was really nervous about it because it wasn’t until the run after my last marathon that my knee started to hurt. I am going to come back to running very slowly in order to avoid getting injured again. 2.82 miles slow and steady :) I have been quietly practicing intuitive eating and realize my body enjoys protein to keep me full. … [Read more...]
