Driving to Las Vegas

We made it to Las Vegas!IMG 9321 800x600 thumb Driving to Las VegasIMG 9322 800x600 thumb Driving to Las Vegas

Driving to Vegas is no biggie for residents of Southern California. I’ve been driving up for impromptu weekend fun since I was a kid (I used to party hard when I was 6). But, for those REReaders who aren’t local I thought I’d share the journey. It’s about a four hour drive (depending on if you believe in following speed limits and peeing in an empty bottle). image thumb11 Driving to Las Vegas

Ben and I got on the road around 12:30pm (on Sunday). If you are doing a Friday to Sunday trip you have to leave early (or super late) or you will face a ton of traffic.

After spending an hour and a half on the open road we made the obligatory pit stop at In-N-Out. This is totally going to get me hate comments, but I think In-N-Out is super overrated. IMG 9287 800x600 thumb Driving to Las Vegas

I love everything about California (even our former Governator), but I don’t get the In-N-Out pride. Sorry.governator thumb Driving to Las Vegas

The fries are soggy and not salty enough. IMG 9290 800x600 thumb Driving to Las Vegas

But, if you still insist on going make sure you order your burger “animal style”. If you’re vegetarian they have a grilled cheese that’s not on the menu. IMG 9289 800x600 thumb Driving to Las Vegas

In Baker about an hour away from Vegas, we stopped at the Mad Greek Café. Supposedly it’s world famous. I doubt that, but it is a famous landmark on the drive to and from Vegas.IMG 9299 800x600 thumb Driving to Las VegasIMG 9309 800x600 thumb Driving to Las VegasIMG 9312 800x600 thumb Driving to Las Vegas

I got a lame-o salad because I wasn’t hungry, but thought I should eat something. IMG 9314 800x600 thumb Driving to Las Vegas

And I stole a couple sips of Ben’s strawberry shake. It’s not made with fresh strawbs and is just okay. But, the cute umbrella helps wlEmoticon smile24 Driving to Las Vegas

The salad woke up my hunger and I had these nuts I got from the Natural Products Expo. Love.

Finally, we made it!!! I’m not sure what the plans are for this evening, but I suspect they involve something that starts with a “V” and ends with “odka”…monica needs AA thumb Driving to Las Vegas

I could not agree with you more about the “In and Out” obsession…I don;t like their fries either, it’s good food but you can get so much better! My husband and I are in dire need of a roadtrip to Vegas…we have never been but have lived in SoCal for almost two years! I hope you have a blast :)

Totally with you about In ‘n’ Out. Fries are just okay. I find their secret sauce totally repulsive. I don’t eat meat, so I can’t speak for the burgers, but the grilled cheese was very meh. Redeeming factor = Neapolitan milkshakes that are truly outstanding.

Agree with the above comment–you MUST order them well done! That makes them so much better! I miss In N’ Out :(

My husband said we HAVE to stop there the next time we go to Vegas. I’ll have to let him in on the fry-overhype. Since I’m a vegetarian and I gotta be gluten-free, I doubt there’s anything I can even eat there anyway. But I’ve learned it’s a heck of a lot easier to just not eat out. I keep getting “contaminated” when I try to eat somewhere else!

It might be four hours over, but don’t try to do that on a Sunday afternoon back to L.A.! I did make it over there once sub 4 hours, but the cost of the ticket was one day’s worth of Blackjack…
