National Running Day

by runeatrepeat on June 1, 2011

It’s National Running Day!

I know what you’re thinking – how do you celebrate National Running Day?

RUN. (Wait, was that not obvious?)monica running redlands

I did 4 easy / slow miles this morning. This is my Recovery Run after my Half Marathon on Monday. I always take it super easy on the run following a race.

When I hurt my knee after the Disney World Marathon – the injury didn’t show up until the run AFTER the race. I’m sure the race is what actually hurt me, but it didn’t really show up until that following week. So, now I take it really easy the week after a race and try to pay attention to all the aches and pains (and there are a few!).

Then, you refuel…IMG_4388 (800x533)

It’s also Waffle Wednesday, so slathering a waffle with a thick layer of Sunflower Butter is a good choice.IMG_4391 (800x533)

Eat.IMG_4392 (800x533)

Then, Repeat!

The National Running Day site has some suggestions for how to celebrate, but here are mine.

How to Celebrate National Running Day

1. Run

2. Carb loadmonica and cake

3.  Register for a race

4. Buy new running shoesrunning shoes

5. Read a running blog Winking smile

6. Sleep (Hey,runners need a lot of sleep!)monica sleeping

7. Wash your favorite running visor because it stinks. IMG_4299 (600x800)

8. Count your toenails and write it down. (This number will change after a few months of marathon training.)

9. Watch your favorite running movie.

10. Wear ALL your race medals to work/school/the store. Then, run away from anyone who tries to take you to the crazy hospital.medal holder

Question: Why do you run?

I run because I love carb loading.

I run because I like the time it gives me to think, and you can’t beat a runner’s high.

I’m celebrating by doing a giveaway on my blog! Erm, in all seriousness, I’m actually going to run on a trail near my work today… kind of my first time training on a trail, but I have a trail half (my first) next Sunday. I’m not expecting to blaze through obviously, but it’s something new for me!

Those waffles look SO good!

Because I love it! Running is my “me” time, time when I can think and clear my head. I also love running because it gets my outside enjoying the weather.

I run to eat.

Oh and sometimes I run because it makes me feel invincible. But mostly I just run to eat.

I run because I love the bling! Nothing beats the high and accomplishment of running a race and geeting a sweet medal after.

I run because it gives me a sense of accomplishment like none other. :) I’ve very proud of how far I’ve come with running over the past few years! Plus it’s something that makes me a little more intimidating to other people. ;) Haha gotta love that power!

I run because I love the sense of accomplishment after a great run or when I start seeing improvement. My love of ice cream, bread, and wine aren’t bad reasons either. Happy Running Day!

I run because I’m addicted. And because I love it. And because I love food. I’m not that original :) .

I love the idea of wearing all the race medals! Wouldn’t it be fun to have a Race Medal Party?? There’s really no good time to wear them again where you don’t look crazy.

HAHA. That is exactly why I run too!

I rarely run anymore, and if I do, it’s a short interval -type run. And I do it so I can eat cake.

Please tell me you actually wore some medals in public. And thanks for reminding me I really (but I mean really) DO need to replace my running shoes.

I second that. Waffles are amazing. Ever tried sticking frozen yogurt and strawberries between two waffles and drizzling with chocolate syrup for a dessert? It’s rediculously good.

I run because it helps me clear my head. Also there is nothing like a great run to make you feel amazing and energized. I just love running.

I run because 1) I like to burn calories fast, 2) I like to eat sweets, 3) after I eat sweets, I want to burn the calories off…fast, 4) before I eat anything, I want to burn the calories I’m about to eat, and 5) God has given me legs to run and this is the first time in my 20 something year old life that I have been this active!!

And I will run my miles this evening before I eat a spinach egg scramble for dinner and froyo or caramel cake for dessert..lol!

I like this post idea, and I may just copy it :P
I run for so many reasons it’s hard to know where to start… It makes me feel strong. It helps me think. It gives me confidence. Every run is a new experience and a new challenge, and I love that sense of accomplishment I get at the end. And of course, the obvious added bonus: fueling and refueling!

i run because it’s an outlet for the competitive side of my personality. yup, i like to compete with myself and against others!
i also like the time to myself, the repetitive nature of running (just one foot after the other), the endorphin rush and setting goals.
and yes, go out and buy new shoes to celebrate national running day (i work in a running store – haha!).
