Holiday Fun Run 10k in Long Beach

Hello! Last night Ben and I headed to Disneyland to meet my mom, dad and little brother for dinner. (We have annual passes.)

Unfortunately, we were rained out so we had to scramble and make a Plan B. We passed by a shopping center with a bunch of restaurants and quickly decided to meet there. I shopped while we waited for them, but didn’t find a Christmas party dress.IMG 9848 800x600 thumb Holiday Fun Run 10k in Long Beach

1.5 hour wait at Cheesecake Factory. NO thank you.

So we ended up at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

This place is super fun, but it’s not exactly known for the food. We started with apps.

I got a very unexciting salad, but it was good. Corn makes a salad sometimes. IMG 9864 800x600 thumb Holiday Fun Run 10k in Long Beach

I came home and enjoyed some chocolate courtesy of Skinny Runner. Yes, we refer to each other by our blog initials. Come to think of it, I bet she doesn’t even know my first name…IMG 9879 800x600 thumb Holiday Fun Run 10k in Long Beach

This morning I woke up bright and early to run with the Sole Runners in Long Beach. Some of the group was doing a Holiday 10k and I decided to crash the party and run extra with Steve after. 20121215 102629 600x800 thumb Holiday Fun Run 10k in Long Beach

He pushed me the last 3 miles of the 10k and I felt like I was barely hanging on. At least I have a 10k time now? (This was a small, non-timed race so this time is unofficial.)

Steve is a great running coach and my running form is horrific, so I am asking him to help me. He coaches locally and online check out http://socalrunning.com/ for more info.

After the 10k Steve was giving me and another client a Chi Running lesson as we ran another 9 miles. But I just couldn’t find my groove. We were running with the metronome aiming for a 180 cadence and I think that threw my heart rate too high.

So, I bailed after 10 miles wlEmoticon sadsmile1 Holiday Fun Run 10k in Long Beach I did have to find my way home, shower and shop for a dress for tonight’s party but still I feel like I failed.

I hope this doesn’t get me on the naughty list! Santa??20121215 090406 600x800 thumb Holiday Fun Run 10k in Long Beach

P.S. – I am in love with my ProCompression holiday socks!!!

On the way home I stopped at Whole Foods and got suckered into buying gluten free brownie mix for 8 dollars. Now I really hate myself.

Question: Cookies or Brownies?

LOL, I LOVE that you and SR refer to each other by your blog names. Cute.

I’ve never been to Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. I really wanted to go in NYC but never got a chance. HAppy birthday to your little bro!

No fail. A good learning experience and great training. I am sure you had a negative split. You worked on the second half of that race. Plus, without saying anything, I was impressed how you kept the 180 cadence the last 3 miles of the race. I knew it would raise your Heart Rate.

After the race you still got in another 4 miles and we sped up each of those miles. Remember, there is no failing when you train, the only fail is when you don’t train and go back to bed. A good first 10k but you have a faster 10k in you. And that was without any warm up. Enjoy your evening you earned it. :) – Coach Steve

Brownies!! although I have a recipe for cookie bars that are the bomb. Kind of like chocolate chip cookie-brownies. LOL

It depends on what kind of cookie so I would have to say brownies because you always know they will be good! I don’t know if I would ever pay 8 bucks for a mix though!

Coach Steve sounds awesome! He reads your blog too! :)

Wow, I never heard about cadence running, besides my husband’s Army runs. I am going to very interesting. Going to have to see if I can get myself a metronome. I always feel that I can do the distance, but it’s my speed that gets me. I’m way slow :(

Hope you had a wonderful time at the party!

I just went to a running store yesterday to get new shoes and I strayed from my beloved Mizunos…. and they got me into those black/blue Brooks you’re wearing! I’m a little nervous, I love my mizunos and I don’t know why I am trying something new.. but we’ll see what happens…
