Leaving New Orleans

by runeatrepeat on February 25, 2013

Hello from the sky! Sadly, I’m on my way back home from New Orleans. I had so much fun I didn’t want to leave. This place was all about Running and Funning and Eating – my kinda vacation!IMG 1220 800x600 thumb Leaving New OrleansIMG 1218 800x600 thumb Leaving New Orleans

Sunday night after the race we ended up scoring a dinner invite for some delicious comida…1361752022238 408x306 thumb Leaving New Orleans

Then, it was time to hit up Bourbon Street one more time. There were hand grenades and hurricanes and karaoke involved. It was awesome. 20130222 213816 thumb Leaving New Orleans

I also found my favorite shirt ever – What she order? Fish Fillet! <- This is a big deal because I was saying this ALL WEEKEND. Made my night.image thumb40 Leaving New Orleans

Then, stuff happened

And by “stuff” I mean singing Miley Cirus karaoke… #BadDecisionswithBeverages 20130225 010623 800x600 thumb Leaving New Orleans

It was fun. The End.

This morning we headed to the famous Mother’s Restaurant for breakfast. Every time we walked by here this weekend there has been a LONG line, but I guess since it was a random Monday mid-morning we scored. image thumb41 Leaving New Orleans20130225 112435 800x600 thumb Leaving New Orleans

I had an omelet with grits. 20130225 113608 800x600 thumb Leaving New Orleans

I have tried grits before, but wasn’t super all about them. Well today I liked them! (It might have been the post-marathon hungries talking but still.)

and delicious biscuit with homemade jam.20130225 113604 thumb Leaving New Orleans

We stayed at the Hyatt and I heard a lot of the elite athletes were staying there too. 20130225 130931 600x800 thumb Leaving New Orleans

Well, as we were walking out we saw Pete Omae – he placed 2nd in the marathon yesterday!!! How cool is that?!image thumb42 Leaving New Orleans

I was able to do a tiny bit of exploring before I had to head to the airport. The weather was pretty windy and drizzly in New Orleans today – but I’m glad it wasn’t like this for the race.20130225 122856 800x600 thumb Leaving New Orleans

This cemetery was within walking distance of the hotel so I checked it out before heading out of town…20130225 124333 800x600 thumb Leaving New Orleans20130225 124347 800x600 thumb Leaving New Orleans1361817839305 thumb Leaving New Orleans1361817849988 thumb Leaving New Orleans

I grabbed a big salad for lunch (no pic) and am feeling very snacky today. So, I bought a bunch of snacks at the Atlanta airport during my layover – pistachios, protein bar and popcorn. I’m pretty hungry today and I just go with it when I am like this – eat what you love, love what you eat wlEmoticon smile6 Leaving New OrleansIMG 1235 800x600 thumb Leaving New Orleans

Overall, I had an epic weekend and I loved every minute of it. I don’t get to hang out with my favorite Chandinator often so it was great to hang out with her AND I absolutely fell in love with New Orleans. image thumb43 Leaving New Orleans

Tomorrow it’s back to work and running and eating and repeating.

Question: If you could go away for the weekend with one person – who would it be?

that biscuit looks amazing! Glad you had an awesome weekend, sounds just like my awesome marathon weekend in Austin last week with my boyfriend. If I could institute fun running/eating weekends all the time in in fun cities, I would!

Sounds like a perfect vacation! I’d love to escape with my BFF Debbie for a weekend. We’ve been bffs for 12 years but have lived in separate cities for 8 of those years.

My favorite person to go away with for the weekend is my Aunt Babs. As her name suggests, she crazy! We have taken so many trips together & I always come back exhausted from the amount of fun that we have together! If only I could convince her to start running…

I love New Orleans! The city has so much buzz and excitement even early in the morning!! To answer your question, I would choose my husband! Sounds cheezy but really do have the best time together!

DH, or my sister. Either one. I am more laid back on vacation than in real life. So I need to travel with someone who can just go with the flow.

I of course would want to go with my husband. But if I was looking for a fun girls weekend I would definitely go with my twin sister. I miss sister time!

There’s never anything wrong with Miley karaoke. Never. If I could go away for a weekend I would go to LA, and I am in April! Woo!

Fun!

I would go with my bff. We have lived in different states for the last 15 years. We don’t get to see each other often enough!

Wow! Looks like a great and memorable weekend!
If I could only go somewhere with one person, it’d definitely be my boyfriend. He’s actually really good at planning trips and finding good places to site-see and eat.

My BFF – my sister. The most awesome vacy we had was a weekend getaway (pool, sun, spa, massages, Chef-at-back-and-call-to-whip-up-any-dish-you-want/order) in Tanjung Jara a few years back. I miss that place although my sis has been back almost every 3-4 weeks with my BIL for dives.

I’ve never been to New Orleans but it looks like a blast. I’ve also never had grits, but I feel like they’d taste/be like cream of wheat? Am I right? If I could go away for one weekend with one person it would probably be my older sister. Siblings are the best friends :)

Glad you had a wonderful time in NO! I would love to go on a relaxing beach vacation with my sister. My husband is too much of a tourist to actually relax on vacation. :-)
