Training for a Marathon–How to Pace Yourself foo

I got a lot of questions about my shirt sizing and shorts from race day. What I wore to the OC Marathon… ProCompression Visor RunEatRepreat tech shirt – in Large, someone asked about sizing for my spreadshirt shop. I’d say they run pretty normal for women’s sizes. Brooks Infiniti Shorts – They have a liner around the leg so they don’t ride up too much. They’re still … [Read more...]

Running a Marathon Out of Town

I’m exactly one month away from running a marathon all the way across the country! The marathon is scary enough, but it makes me even more nervous when I think about different weather, different terrain and packing for the race. It would be the worst to forget something important. Since the Chicago marathon is this weekend I thought I’d share my Traveling for a Race tips … [Read more...]

Sole Runner Saturday

This morning I got up and headed to Long Beach for my long run. Steve, a coach with Sole Runners, invited me to run with his group training for the LB Marathon and Half. Steve is one of my ING Class of 2012 teammates. We met in New York while shooting and it turns out he lives outside of LA and has been coaching in Long Beach for 7 years! He invited me to come out and run … [Read more...]

18 Weeks…

Yesterday was a bad snacking day. Between the time change and getting 3 hours of sleep I was hitting the kitchen when I should have been hitting the bed. I randomly ate a pb&J and half an avocado with tortilla as an afternoon pick-me-up. I wasn’t hungry, just tired. Bah. Dinner was leftovers of Mexican food Ben made while I was gone. I guess he missed his Mexican wife and … [Read more...]

Know Better Than the Plan

So I think I’m going to bite the bullet and sign up for a May marathon. I downloaded a training program (that I paid for so can’t really share all together) last week and have  been trying to stick to it. This week’s long run is 10 miles at a 8:45 pace. What? I don’t consider 10 miles a long run and wanted to do 16 miles so I was about to do more but then I realized this … [Read more...]

Zero Week–After the Marathon

Hello! After the marathon I did the obvious – Rest, Eat, Repeat If you were also MIA from the computer yesterday – I ran a marathon and am glad it’s over. This morning I woke up to the smells and sounds of Ben making breakfast. His egg sandwich looked so good I made one for myself! Open face style on sourdough for optimum yolk enjoyment. But, it needed something… … [Read more...]

Long Beach Marathon Recap

Alternate Titles – 5 Seconds Saved Me (instead of last year’s Four Minutes Away title) Or  Monica’s Last Marathon Early this morning I woke up and did my pre-race thing – clothes, bathroom, food. Then, I woke up Ben and Matt (my lil’ bro who’s staying with me this weekend) and we headed to Long Beach. They dropped me off near the start and went to go have breakfast. I … [Read more...]

Long Beach Marathon Expo 2011

Yesterday afternoon I picked up my little brother (who is staying with us all weekend) and headed to the Long Beach Marathon Expo. This place always feels very nice and familiar to me because I’ve attended so many times! Even before running half marys/the blog/Ben/etc I did the bike 26.2 with my ex. Since then I’ve also run the half a few times and full once. I also lived in … [Read more...]

Running Races with Pacers

Hello! How’s your Wednesday going?! I only have one afternoon client so my day has been quiet after this morning’s work and 2 breakfasts   I am totally a morning person though and love the morning shift. I actually feel better all day when I’m up and at ‘em early! I missed my lunch salad bucket yesterday when I forgot to pick up Rebecca romaine. So, I made a special … [Read more...]

Marathon Training–Taper Time

I have the Marathon Taper Crazies! My marathon is 12 days away, this means by now I’m deep into the taper part of training. This weekend I ran 12 miles and Saturday I’ll run 8 for my last long run of the plan. I’m also running less mid-week. By body is as ready as it’s going to be. There is no point in trying to squeeze in an extra run (or a longer run) now. What’s done is … [Read more...]

What Do Marathoners Eat?

After my 20 mile run yesterday I felt depleted. I’m not super hungry (like you would expect), not super thirsty either – it’s random. But, I know I need to take in a good amount of calories or I’m going to wake up in the middle of the night crazy hungry! So, what do marathoners eat? Answer: Whatever the f they want. It’s tough, but somebody’s gotta do it Anyways, Ben and … [Read more...]

20 Mile Training Run – 3 of them!

I did it! I did three 20 mile runs this training program!!! That’s super crazy because this will be my fourth marathon and I have never done more than one 20 in training!!! The first time I only did one 19 miler. For the second marathon training I did one really crappy 20 miler (in Maryland). And last year I did one 20 miler and one 19 miler (where my big butt got me a … [Read more...]

8 Miles and Double Pumpkin

Happy Tuesday from Monica and Vegas! This morning I had 8 miles on my training plan. I woke up hungry and my legs felt very tired so I considered cutting it back to 7. I stalled a bit with some iced coffee and toast. Until I didn’t have any more time to waste and got out the door. At the 3.5 mile mark I decided I should really try and stick to the program today since I’m … [Read more...]
