Gear

Running Shoes:

I usually alternate 2 pairs a shoes at a time.

Right now I use Brooks Ravenna for long runs.

And Brooks Ghost for shorter runs.

*I am normally an Adidas or Asics girl, but got both of these shoes free from coaching a local running group and winning a contest. And since I’m poor I’ve tried them out and really had a great experience! But, unless I get more free shoes I’m going back to Adidas icon smile Gear

Running Gear:

Garmin 305 - GPS watch that tracks miles and time. It’s pricey, but I use it all the time.

New Garmin Strap post

SpiBelt – This is perfect for carryinga phone, money and Gu on runs. Secure it tight so it doesn’t bounce.

I got a newer model that is water resistant at a recent race expo. But I still keep my stuff in a baggie when I use it because I am SUPER SWEATY.

Handheld Water bottle

I’ve had this handheld water bottle for years and love it! I used to use a fuel belt with 4 bottles. When I got this one I thought I would alternate, but now I rarely use the belt.IMG 6342 600x800 300x400 Gear

Running Fuel:

I drink Gatorade on long runs.

And LOVE Chocolate Honey Stinger gels. I normally buy them from my local running store.

I noticed in one of your pics on your Garmin you have a different band. I have the one that it came with and it’s beginning to break – where did you find the new band?

And I love reading your blog – everyday i get sucked in and end up reading through old entries!! :)

Thanks!!

Hi Shawn, I ordered it online after my band broke. I want to say Amazon, but I can’t remember for sure. I might have mentioned it as “strap” before so I’ll search that…

It looks like you don’t wear compression socks or calf sleeves, but I’ve noticed a number of other bloggers do. What are your thoughts on them? I’m considering buying a pair of calf sleeves but they’re pricey and I’m not sure if they’re really worth it for me…

I own 2 pairs but only wear them when I need to recovery fast or if I’m going to be sitting on a plane for a long time after a long run. They are pricey so it really depends on if you’re training or really need them. If you’re a recreational runner they’re not necessary.

I need sunglasses for my runs…any recommendations? Is there such a thing as “running sunglasses?” My giant Jackie O wannabe sunglasses just aren’t going to cut it for my runs…

Monica,
Have you used a brand other than Garmin tracking your runs?

Yes, I used the MotoActv in the past too. It was a touch screen though and I’m too clumsy for that.

Thanks! I’m shopping for a sport watch for my “runs”. I don’t want to spend a bunch of money so was looking at brands other than Garmin. I use Nike+ now but would like to get rid of the large iPod while out on my run.
