As part of the Hyland’s Boston Marathon Team Challenge I’m sharing my favorite Running Memento. I’m not a fan of knick-knacks and don’t even keep my race bibs. But I have collected a lot of medals over the years! I figured my favorite running souvenir would be one of my medals.
After looking at my collection of medals from half marathons, marathons and the random 5k or 10k from the past 7+ years I realized…
1. I have A LOT of medals.
2. I don’t really run for medals. (I run for donuts and/or ice cream. Everyone has their own thing and I don’t care if ya run for medals or praise or pizza or to prove your 7th grade gym teacher wrong. Do you friend.)
3. I want to get even more medals because I want to keep running – so this collection is going to grow!
So, I’m going to do something nice with all my running medals and donate them to Medals for Mettle. It’s a non-profit that collects half marathon, full marathon and triathlon medals and gives them to children and adults with serious health issues.
But I’ll keep a few super special ones. This is all kind of a sudden thought so I don’t know exactly which ones I’ll keep yet – but I do share three of my favorites in the video… AND share my favorite running souvenir.
You can get a Run Eat Repeat medal hanger from SportHooks here. This is definitely something I’m keeping since it reminds me of my favorite running souvenir.
Stay tuned for what medals I end up keeping and the process of donating them.

I think you are really selfless to part with most of your running medals. You have a lot to give away. I wish you good luck in LA, and in Boston. My favorite running memento is a photo taken from my 2nd marathon. I lived overseas in Italy when I was in the military. I had just set a 25 minute PR and I was gritting my teeth when I crossed the finish line.

I got a nice little wine glass from the Wineglass Half Marathon which I ran on my 21st birthday! It was just all so fitting and I had an awesome birthday, so I love that. I also got a finisher certificate from my first marathon because it was a small inaugural event in a small town, and I have that framed in my room 🙂 I’m a one-and-done marathoner, so that certificate is important to me because I achieved the goal and will probably never do it again, haha!

Monica, this is an awesome post! I just love that you collect and keep all of your metals. I don’t have many running bibs, but I do have a couple of metals from obstacle course races that I have done. I also really appreciate that Run Eat Repeat is your favorite Momento because it is a diary/journal of your life story with your running. And I can really relate to that. Thank you for sharing this. Being a new runner, I guess that I have a lot of Momentos to start collecting.

Thanks Tracey! Obstacle course races scare me.

Wow that so kind of you! My heart melted by just imagining the people who will receive your medals. I have to say it takes a LOT to be able to say goodbye to your medals just like that, which is pretty admiring.
My favorite momento at races is when I cross the finish line. I know. I know. That’s probably everyone’s favorite momento but I just love it.

That is awesome donating your medals.
I only have a couple, so I’m not in your boat.
But…I’m part of a running group and would love to share the link with them.
I might recommend that we donate as a group!
What’s the link?
You rock!!!

I loved your video. I’m a big sap so I got a little teary at the part at the finish line in Angels stadium .
My favorite running souvenir is prob the PR at any given distance. (5,10,15k and half marathon). But I’m a sucker for random swag too, I must admit

My favorite would have to be my 2013 Boston Marathon medal. So many memories both good and bad wrapped up in that one. You certainly have an awesome collection. Will have to check out Medals for Mettle.
