Hey Monica! I just had a question for you…..I was just wondering where you did freelance work and how you are able to earn some extra income on the side. I work 50 hours a week but myself and my hubby are still short on cash so I figured the easiest way was to do something from home. I have been interested in starting a blog for a while but am not sure how to get started. Any tips are appreciated! Thanks!

I’m glad I found your blog! I love reading your posts. I lost 110 pounds on my own–through counting calories, exercise and trying to retrain myself on how to eat healthy. I’ve recently started running and will be competing in Hood To Coast Relay this year. Keep up the blogging! :)

You look wonderful! I got the Intuitive Eating book because of your web and I am enjoying the freedom of eating. However, I have 65 pounds that I need to lose. To this point I have not seen great results. It is about health and I am for sure excited about that. My question is, how did you stop eating when you were full? How did you control your eating when you were not hungry? Did you drink tea or anything? I am a stay at home mom so I do not have a ton to distract me. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much!!!

I just discovered your blog and absolutely love it. At 23 years old I have always been an athlete but have also always struggled with the binge restrict cycle. People tell me I am fit and slim, sitting at 5’11″ and 140 pounds, but i feel like crap because I feel out of control. I am going to buy this book and see how it works for me.

Hi Monica-I just have to say that you crack me up all the time on this blog-your “no bueno” lines were hilarious. I like this blog because I like that you eat a good amount and you are honest about it. I am a 28-year old female and runner/grad student and I struggled with disordered eating for many years,) and I would say that my eating habits still aren’t that regulated, in that I skip meals a lot (and make up for all the miles I run with frosting!!) but overall I am healthy. It’s just refreshing to see that you eat-I feel that a lot of blogs I see, the bloggers really don’t seem to eat that much, or if they do, it’s all like plates of tofu and veggies and no carbs or teeny tiny portions. I have a question for you though-do you always eat 3 meals a day? Like sometimes do you ever take pictures of meals you eat and not eat them if you aren’t hungry or something? Do other bloggers ever do this? I just wonder. I normally get in two solid meals (and always dessert) but breakfast or lunch would be what I would skip the most. Any tips on how to get on that habit of eating those meals? Often I will skip breakfast or lunch so that I can “have” dessert and not feel guilty about it, and then consequently I am not hungry in the morning. Also I love seeing your posts about Florida-I go there frequently to visit family, and it is so different running there because it is soo hot. I drink a lot of water and white wine when I am there-and also eat a lot of ice cream! Anwyay Happy New Year-Jesse :)

Hi! I just started reading about Chia seeds and on your recommendation watched Hungry for Change which also mentioned Chia seeds. I see in your blog you put them on your food, do you sprinkle them dry? Or do you mix with water and add them once they start to gel up?
Thank you!

Hello from TX! I found your site not too long ago and can say I am addicted and feel inspired every time I read your blog! Thanks for sharing your experiences. I am on a personal journey to lose weight and become healthier overall. Hopefully even start running as some point. I do have a question for you. If I’m restricting my calories and working out (cardio) everyday for at least 30 min (if not more) can my body stop losing weight? For instance if I am allowing myself 1500 cals per day and only consume 1400 and burn 300 cals for a net intake of 1100 by the end of my day can this be stalling my weightloss? Should I be consuming the full 1500 everyday? Your insight would be really great!

Thanks again for your awesome blog!

Hey Dalia,

You def can slow or stop weight loss if your body thinks it’s in starvation mode. Be careful to eat enough, while still allowing for a deficit. Good luck!

Hi Monica, from Asheville, NC! I was wondering if you ever run in the mountains or courses with steep elevation changes? I am training for my very first half marathon, but I’m nervous about the huge hills. I’ve been able to up my distance on trails with just small rolling hills, but when I run on the road around my hilly neighborhood, I’m dying by mile four. Do you have any advice or motivational mantras for beasting these things? Love your blog!

Hey Monica! First of all, I love your site and blog! I am currently on week 4 of P90x (recovery week) but I missed a good portion of last week’s workouts due to a cold. I feel like my body hit the “reset” button. This may be to my advantage because I just signed up for my first 5K in August. Should I switch to a 5K training program to prep for the race or continue with the P90x?

If the 5k is a goal you should definitely spend time focused on training for it. Good luck!

Hi Monica! I just wanted to tell you that this is my favorite blog ever. About 6 years ago, I started losing weight, simply by exercising and eating better. At my lowest weight (18mos ago), I’d lost about 110lb, and could run a 10-minute mile, which was really fast for me. Sadly, I’ve gained back about 30lb :( (that’s a VERY sad face) and I’m running much slower, but I’m determined to get through this speed bump! Part of my weight gain was from stress- I just bought a house! I’m in school full time (while working) getting a degree in fitness! so it’s not all bad. I’m still running, and am figuring out how to fit in my workouts. Your blog reminds me that I have to keep pushing ahead. Thank you for being real and delightful.

Hi Monica,
I have been following your blog for some time now. I love it, I love you. I find you so relate-able! I have been running 3-5 miles for about 10 years, a year ago I got involved in races. I’ve ran 4 Marathons and a few more halfs. My goal thus far has always been to finish, or run the whole thing. Now, I’m ready to challenge myself and really work on speed. Do you have any recommendations on how to get faster? I would love a sub 4 marathon, I know you have done it and it was difficult, I would love to know how you got there. Thanks!!! love RER!!

Hi, Monica! I’ve been reading your blog for awhile now – keep up the great writing! I had a question about running and our “time of the month” – I’ve been running more (about 6-8 miles a week) over the last few months. I’ve noticed that my periods have become more irregular since then – my cycle has been coming around 1 week earlier at times. Have you experienced irregular periods as well? I not only run during the week, but I also take Zumba/bootcamp/Turbo Kick classes. I’ve read that intense exercise can throw off your cycle.

Thank you for your input!

Tiffany

Yes, intense exercise can ‘mess with’ your cycle, but it shouldn’t completely change it. If you are consistently having irregular periods (that used to be regular) I would check with a doctor.

Hi Monica! One of the girls I work with told me about the November running challenge you created and I’ve been doing it on my own throughout the month thus far. I didn’t get the chance to register for the running Challenge by October 31st because I didn’t have your site/information, but I have been tracking all of my miles & trying to reach my goal of 100 miles for the month of November. I believe I added myself to the spreadsheet on Google, but I was wondering if it is too late for me to join the challenge! Please let me know what the next steps are and I will start adding in my miles :)

Thanks!

Dear Monica,

I’ve been reading your blog for about 6 months when I stumbled across it during my NYC Marathon training and was hooked. I love your cheerful spirit and enthusiasm for life and food! But I’m writing because I would like your advice about IT Band Syndrome. When the NYC Marathon was cancelled I ended up signing up for the Harrisburg Marathon the following weekend. I thought I was well prepared and had no knee pain during training but during the race I developed this terrible right knee pain at about mile 13 and ended up pushing through… for 13.2 more miles. Since then, I’ll attempt a run here and there and haven’t been able to run more than 2 miles without pain (only about 7 times in the past 8 weeks). I’ve been stretching, and icing, swimming, and yoga, but still have discomfort and pain when running. Any tips? You’ve referenced going through the same injury a while ago. How long did it take to recover? I feel like 8 weeks of pretty low key exercise would have fixed me up by now.

Thanks!

Kate

Monica,
Interesting bog. I love running and learned from your posts. I remember it was very difficult for me to run when I was overweight. It got much easier after I lost some weight.
BTW. I don’t think running itself helps significantly with weight loss.

Hi, I just came across your site from Fitnessista. I don’t like running, but I know its good for me and I need to lose the weight after having two kids, is there a spot on your site or any tips you have for a flat footed person who does not like to run on how to make it more enjoyable and get more motivated to do it?

Hey Monica! After spending a long winter running in compression tights, it is starting to get a bit warmer so I am ready to break out the shorts. I have a tough time finding shorts that don’t “ride up.” I was wondering if you had any suggestions of shorts (or spandex to wear underneath) that can defeat my thunder thighs :) Thank you!

Hey Monica! Your blog is so fun! I’ve been reading for several months now and am a life-long running enthusiast. I recently decided to try my hand at blogging and was wondering what tips you have for creating fun and informative blog posts, getting new readers, and just general blog maintenance ideas. I haven’t really done much to promote it yet, as I’ve felt a little self-conscious while I’m kick-starting the blog (as far as posting it on Facebook for my friends to see or really telling people about it) so I’m going to start doing some of that but wanted to get your advice and hear how you got your start.
Thanks and keep up the great work!
