Sequoia National Park Visit – Day 1

(Alternate title – The Night I got Eaten Alive!!!)

Apparently, it’s been way too long since I went camping because I honestly didn’t realize I wasn’t going to get wifi or cell service?! Tragic, I know. But for those who are highly interested to take part in the world of camping, details such as National Parks Facts might be worth knowing. IMG_9050 (800x533)

So let’s catch up with my Saturday adventures!

After we left the cute little B&B we headed to the Sequoia National Park. We ended up getting lost and it took long than it was supposed to, but it was all part of the fun(?).IMG_9045 (800x533)

We stopped at a grocery store for ice and rest rooms. I spotted to-go chicken in their deli section and grabbed it for lunch. I had packed the lettuce and the Ranch dressing is from my Subway salad from Friday night. IMG_9055 (800x533)

I shredded the chicken right into the salad bag, squeezed the dressing in and had the best salad I’ve ever eaten in a car with my hands! IMG_9062 (800x533)

We also had crackers, snapea crisps and other random snacks. IMG_9058 (800x533)

Ben packed a few avocados and ate one straight up on the trail. He’s weird, but I ate some too so yeah…IMG_9064 (533x800)

Our first stop in the park was at the Trail of 100 Giants.   IMG_9066 (800x533)

It is a paved trail and super easy (more like a walk). But it was great to stretch our legs and see the massive trees!   IMG_9076 (533x800) IMG_9077 (800x533)

Ben says, “Hi!”IMG_9078 (533x800) IMG_9080 (800x533) IMG_9083 (533x800)  IMG_9085 (533x800) IMG_9086 (800x533) IMG_9090 (800x533)

After a bit of exploring we headed off in search of a camp ground. We didn’t have reservations, but ended up scoring a first come first served site no problem.

Ben pitched the tent. Ha!IMG_9092 (800x533)

We made dinner since it was getting dark. I knew we were only camping one night so I wanted to make it as easy as possible. We had crackers, tortillas, snap peas (no pic)IMG_9100 (800x533)

and turkey hot dogs. Mine got burnt.IMG_9103 (800x533)

There was also dessert 🙂 IMG_9104 (800x533)

Sleeping on the floor outside with bugs is unpleasant.

Drinking helps you sleep better. It’s science.IMG_9098 (800x533)

Ben made a big container of ‘jungle juice’ for our camping adventures. IMG_9096 (800x533) We went to a nighttime ranger talk and learned about the constellations. Then, it was sleepy time!

Buuuuutt we had a MAJOR CAMPING FAIL and forgot bug spray! I woke up today looking like this: IMG_9192

We just got to my mom’s so I’ll update the rest of the trip in a bit 🙂

That would have totally been me as well. Bugs LOVE me!

This part is for Ben: Can you share you’re jungle juice recipe? Anything called “jungle juice” must be amazing.

Ugh, sleeping on the ground is not appealing in any way, especially when you are eaten alive! Hope the jungle juice helped.

Holy moly! Those bug bites are awful. I hope you found some nice anti-itch cream.

Isn’t it incredible how big those trees can get?! When I was in Australia, we went through a rain forest full of trees that size, it was quite humbling!

Wait did you actually eat the salad out of the bag with your hands. If so, you are my hero and that is hilarious. Those trees are huuuugeeee…and so are those bug bites 🙁 ouch, I hate being itchy! Camping can definitely be fun though, glad you guys had a nice weekend away!

Oh no!! So sorry, Monica! Hopefully the bites are so far back that you won’t be able to itch them too much!
I’m sure you’ve already answered this a gazillion times, but do you always wear your Body Bugg? And how do you like it?

OUCH! Those bug bites look angry. Try rubbing alcohol to get rid of the itchiness.

Otherwise looks like it was a glorious weekend. 🙂
