Run Eat Repeat

Run Eat Repeat and Snacking Check in

Uncategorized

24 Apr

Hello! I didn’t realize today was Wednesday because I have a three different events in LA tonight, tomorrow and Friday so I’m all confused in the world.

This also means I’m busy and need to be productive asap. So here is a quick “Run, Eat (repeat)” post:

Run: 8 miles.

8 mile run (450x800)

I have not been getting enough miles in for the Ultra on May 18th. Sure I have been running a good amount, but not enough for a 30 mile race. I was a little stressed about it, but I have been doing the best I can.

I ran 14 miles in AZ, I ran 10 miles the day after Ragnar – again, I get an “E” for effort but it’s not enough for my up coming calendar. Obviously, I’m just going to end up walking some of the ultra and I’m okay with that. I’m just doing my best given my schedule.

Eat: Pancakes!

This weekend I made delicious pancakes. Growing up my  mom would serve us pancakes with an egg on top for extra protein.  I LOVE the salty yolk and sweet syrup combo!

sunday pancakes

But I tried cracking the egg directly onto the pancake before flipping and it was amazing!

pancakes with egg in them

This is how it looked on the other side. Delicious!

pancakes with extra protein from egg

And I wanted to answer this very important question…

“How do you fuel for an all night relay race?”

Well, Monicans fuel with Tapatio. Yes, I keep packets of Tapatio in my purse – is that weird?

i eat tapatio what what

Weight loss Wednesday Snacking check in – I have been doing horrible with snacking on the weekends, mid-week is a little better, but not as clean as I’d like. I need to make a batch of protein bars or stock up on packaged ones so that I have something easy to grab around 3pm. That’s the plan for afternoons for the rest of the week.

Question: What are you snacking on today?

THIS IS YOUR YEAR.

Hey Monica, great job trying to incorporate more distance for your upcoming ultra. Just wondering if you are incorporating more hill training and trail running into your ultra training? I’m an urban runner/road marathoner training for my first trail 50k and I’ve come to realize how important it is not to underestimate the elevation profile of ultras. The distance is not much longer than 26.2, but the hills and terrain make the run much more difficult than 31 road miles. Just something to think about. Good luck!

To be honest, I’m not really incorporating anything into my ‘training’ – I haven’t been training, just running when I can. I know it’s not good, but I’m swamped 🙁 Thanks for chiming in though – next time I need to do that.

I’ve been really good and having healthy snacks – rich tea biscuits from Marks & Spencer and a glass of soy milk (mid morning) and crackers with PB (afternoon snack).

I had some popcorn earlier. This evening I had a rice cake, with peanut butter and nutella on top. Threw some almonds on there as well.

I’m so good during the day – I love baby carrots and raw sugar snap peas alone or with hummus – but when I get home, like now, I really just want to eat an entire loaf of bread and call it a night. What the heck??

It looks to me like you made a french toast pancake!

Which might actually be a brilliant idea. Has anybody ever thought of that before?

Tapatio packets aren’t weird. I used to keep taco bell hot sauce packets in my bags in high school and now, I have tabasco packets. I would love it if they made little sriracha and cholula packets. Now THAT would be awesome.

Nada. I make sure my meals are filling enough so I don’t snack. It works, and I used to be the snack queen.

I love the egg on the pancake! I always make pancakes with eggs or order it at the diner but never saw it cracked directly on the pancake in the pan. Must make that soon! I am not a huge snacker, I am more of a mini meal person if that makes sense. I swear my “snacks” consist of extra dessert delight gum or the watermelon flavor and I need to break the habit! Who knows how many packs I go through in a week.

I’ve never heard of an egg-topped pancake! But I can definitely see that salty/sweet combo being absolutely delicious, so I may just have to try it. Quick question – any great recommendation for store-bought protein bars? Trying to clean up my own snacking and would love the tip!

What a great idea to crack the egg directly into the pancake! 🙂 Was the yolk still runny? I am going to have to try this because one of my favorite brunch items is a waffle, with a slice of crisped-up Canadian bacon on top, then topped with a runny egg, a drizzle of syrup and some parmesan! Yum! It’s a wonderful salty-sweet combination.

No, I think I overcooked it a bit so the egg wasn’t as runny as I wanted. Guess I have to make it again… 😉

For a snack, I get some frozen mangoes and put a huge scoop of plain Greek yogurt on it (instead of getting the flavored ones, which have more sugar and additives). And I top it with a bit of granola for the crunch.
OMG, I love eggs. That idea with the egg added to pancake sounds amazing!

So question for you. I’m not sure if I missed the post, but I assume you’re now blogging/running for work rather than working at the gym most of the time? Just curious to hear some more details on that aspect. Did you have this plan and timeline in place to change your career to be a full time blogger athlete or did the pieces just fall into place? Always enjoy reading your blog, Monica!

My snacks today are real food multigrain chips and yogurt. Yogurt is my everyday afternoon snack. Can’t get enough!

I have really been struggling with my snacking as well… I always want something super sweet around 2:00. This week I made a batch of protein power bites which aren’t totally guilt free but they curb my sweet tooth and they are super clean. I also have a slight addiction to ranch quakes, and whole grain goldfish!

I snack on individual packets of almond, and cashew butter. It keeps me from getting “hangry”. I did get asked once if I was eating a packet of salad dressing. Weird. I also keep fruit, nuts, and Greek yogurt around for snack time.
Good luck with your hectic schedule!
