Run Eat Repeat

You’ll Never Guess Where I Get the BEST COFFEE

My Life· Travel

29 Apr

Hello! Today has been a super busy day. That’s a little out of the norm for my life in Florida because it’s normally a lot more chill than ‘real life’ (as I put it). So let’s get into all the running and eating…

There was a serious thunderstorm when I first woke up. I’m not opposed to running in the rain – actually I kind of like it since I don’t get to do it very often in SoCal!

Well, I like running in the rain when it’s warm – I never want to be cold and wet. (Unnecessary clarification, you’re welcome.)

I was all ready to get running but then Ben said I might get hit by lightning since it was a pretty big thunderstorm. Boo. So he convinced me to stall a tiny bit… because apparently this area is the “lightning capital of the world!”

(I didn’t believe this at first, but maybe it’s true.)

As soon as it cleared up a bit I was out and running!

I did have to cut it a little short since it started raining hard and Ben came to get me. I think I did about 9 miles. <- I didn’t take my watch or running music or phone because of the monsoon!

I do want to note that even in the POURING rain and stepping in puddles my HOKA ONE ONE runners stayed with me and didn’t get too heavy!

Post run breakfast included eggs and this amazing toast Ben’s mom and I found at Publix – cranberry walnut bread with cranberry cream cheese. So.Good.

(It was the same kind of bread that was in my purse – glad I didn’t put cream cheese on that piece!)

And breakfast requires coffee. Obviously.

I pour myself a big cup before I go run and then sweeten it up and pour it over ice when I get back.

Where I Get the BEST Coffee…

Every time I visit I always rave about the coffee here. I cannot figure out why it’s so good. It’s just store bought regular brew, but there is something about it I love. I can’t decide if it’s the magic coffee pot or what! (Seriously Dunkin Donuts is down the street so you’d figure I’d be there 2 times a day, but I usually skip it at this point.)

the best coffee maker (600x800)

Ben’s mom credits her coffee pot – it’s a Farberware Percolator. I really have no idea how to even make coffee in this thing! But it’s good, strong coffee that is perfection. (This one is the #1 best selling percolator though.)

After breakfast Ben and I got all fancy to go to a business luncheon. He was being recognized as a new member and I got to go.

There was a pretty fancy lunch spread too! Which is great because all I can think about is…

The guest speaker was from an organization that helps people with epilepsy. She shared a lot of information about how to spot a seizure and what to do if someone near you has one. This is a cause close to my heart because my 17 year old cousin Daniel died of a seizure a few years ago (just before I started RER).

And now I don’t know how to transition from that because it’s very very sad.

Let me share something that makes my heart feel good and hopefully yours too…

Hi! I was wondering, do you just have a condo on Florida for fun or do you also live there throughout the year??

Love rainy day running sans lightning & ice of course.
Good call on skipping cream cheese for your purse bread. LOL
Yes I had such great coffee today, every day though. Next time you travel you should layover in OKC instead of Phoenix. Fresh salad veggies for free!! And all the perfect coffee you want. xoxo

I didn’t make awesome coffee today, but I did drink awesome coffee! My local (to work) coffee shop,Kinfolk, is a not-for-profit and they have the best food and coffee. I justify going there every day by considering my spending as donations to worthy organisations, rather than donations to my stomach.

Epilepsy awareness is so important. My brother also died having a seizure. The diagnosis was SUDEP. I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t know it that was possible until he died. A few years later my son started having seizures. He was in 6th grade then. It has been a long road, one that included brain surgery, but he’s nearly 2 years seizure free and graduating high school in a few weeks. Today we are grateful!

I quit drinking coffee BUT I’ll take you to Dunkin’ Donuts! I live in the “Lightning Alley” area of Florida, at The Villages. I hate our summer storms!

I get the BEST coffee ever at a little place called “Cravings” in my home town (where I am currently writing this!).

We have a fancy percolator, but rarely use it. We mostly use it when camping.

Be careful with lightning! It can still hit even after the storm has passed.
I golf in a work league and the guys are so stupidly macho about it. If I see lightning, I’m putting down the METAL ROD in my hand and going the hell inside…not waiting for someone to blare a horn. They wait for the lightning horn, which is monitored by the guy in the pro shop who is sometimes inside watching TV. Yikes!

I don’t make awesome coffee. I’m pretty disappointed with my coffee, actually. I use BJ’s brand, Hazelnut flavor. I put too much creamer in it all the time, but it tastes cruddy without it. I still make and drink 2 big cups per morning.

I am a fan of my local Wawa coffee. (They are opening more of those in Florida.) It’s a convenience store with excellent made-to-order hoagies and the coffee is soooo great!

Coffee forever and always! It’s the percolator for sure (maybe the water too. 🙂 )
iced, hot, decaf, regular…love it all!

Epilepsy is close to my heart also. My sister has it; had two seizures close together in high school. Like another reader mentioned above, it’s controlled with medicine so thank the Lord for that. My life would be empty without her.

Glad you’re enjoying Florida. Hope you and Ben are having a great time together. 😀

I was going to swear off coffee for the rest of the week because I’m trying to PR my half-marathon at a race on Saturday and coffee tends to make my intestines feel like they are being ripped from my body (dramatic much?). However, I arrived at work grumpy and immediately poured myself a cup. It’s not particularly good, but it will do the trick. I’m waiting for it to wake me up and wave it’s magic happy wand over me.

I’ve only ever used a cheapo camping percolator and it did not make great coffee. I do notice that the coffee in my french press is waaaaay better then the regular ol’ coffee maker. But, during the week, it’s my go to. Coffee is always good.

Ahhhh… okay, that’s sad about your cousin. I’m so sorry. 🙁 Epilepsy awareness is key! My son had a seizure after his blood transfusion once and it freaked the living daylights out of me. Had I known what to expect and how to handle it, I wouldn’t have been so scared and felt so helpless. Knowledge is power. Skipping to coffee… I grind beans each time I make a pot and I use a french press. I adore the sludge in the bottom of my cup… it’s like breakfast in a mug! Lol

Sorry about your cousin 🙁 My daughter is actually epileptic – she never ever had a seizure until 8th grade then had 2 in a week at school. In addition to be totally scary it was socially horrible for her 🙁 Luckily her meds have controlled it for 2+ years now!

I love coffee – I have a Kurig but feel bad about the plastic so I bought the tiny mesh filters for it. Love it because you can also control the strength of the coffee by how much you put in there!

I’ve heard from several people who live on the East Coast that their coffee is amazing simply because of the water. I have a friend from New York who brings NYC water home to Arizona with him for “better” coffee. Have you heard that before?!

I have a percolator that I use for camping, but I have a coffee pot that I use at home that I have had forever. I actually really like TJs coffee beans, I make pretty yummy coffee with them.

I am so particular about my coffee, but it is always better at my moms house. We use the exact same coffee grounds and I’ve studied her methods, but I can’t get mine to taste the same. It must be the coffee maker…. I think I’ll be adding a percolater or whatever you call it to my wedding registry!

I LOVE coffee! I don’t do anything extra special to my coffee, but my coffee maker and a “strong brew” button on it that makes the drip go slower so the coffee is stronger. Delish.

      I love my farberware percolater!
I use it when I have guests but most weekdays I just use my Keurig but only use newmans own special blend. It’s the best one of all the Kcups 🙂
