We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But, my RD and a few articles I’ve come across say that breakfast should also be a big meal (if not the biggest).
I have heard, “You should eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper.” Meaning, make breakfast you biggest meal and go down from there.

My RD suggested (repeatedly, until I listened) that I eat more earlier in the day to avoid my pattern of night time snacking. It seems that even when I eat a good dinner, if I eat less than I need earlier in the day – the result is my urge to overeat at night to make up for that.
Monday through Thursday I don’t have time to make a big, cooked breakfast, but today I did. I made a Begg Sandwich and fruit.
I cooked the egg in a bowl and microwaved it until firm. Always spray your bowl with cooking spray if you do this or it’s murder to clean. (Yes, actual murder. We don’t exaggerate here at RER.)
I put a Laughing Cow wedge on the bagel with ketchup and it was a cheesy, delicious mess. There is a ton of melon on that plate because it’s perfectly ripe too 🙂
Run: Today is Friday, 5K Friday to be more exact. Did you run? I did an easy 5K to “shake it out” for tomorrow’s long run 🙂
Are you a part of the Big Breakfast Club?
Q: What is your biggest meal of the day?
My biggest meal is still dinner, because otherwise I want to keep eating a ton of snacks since I don’t feel satisified.
I love this saying “Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dinner like a pauper.” I fully agree that breakfast should be the biggest and best meal of the day. But I also believe in ending your night with a little something sweet too, so hopefully my big breakfasts don’t deter me from my desserts. 🙂
I’ve heard a big breakfast is important too. For me i like to have a bigger lunch so breakfast tends to be kind of small. Also I love to snack, so none of my meals are ever all that huge.
Cheesy mess sounds good, thanks for sharing
I love a big breakfast and agree with the king, prince, pauper thing
I like breakfast food, but I am never hungry for breakfast. I’m used to working out first thing in the morning, and I find it is one of the few things that makes me hungry (working out before bed does too).
My largest meal is usually dinner. We ALWAYS had huge, Italian feasts growing up AND, when I was recovering from anorexia, my RD told me to eat a big dinner since I would be able to go to sleep afterward and not have to feel it sitting in my belly. It worked soooo well that I still like big dinners.
I think my biggest meal of the day varies day by day. I usually just go by how hungry I am, and I just try to keep my food intake balanced day by day.
I’ve heard that too. It’s too hard for me to do. I eat a medium-big breakfast, small lunch, big dinner.
i think all my meals are around the same size. if anything my 3pm “snack” is likely the biggest meal of the day hahah
My biggest meal is dinner. I’ve found when I eat a large breakfast I eat more throughout the day. It’s like I just can’t stop eatting.
Breakfast for sure. A huge bowl of steel cut oats fruit and almonds, delish!
I am a firm believer in making a big, filling breakfast! I actually could care less about dinner and many nights just have something little or nothing at all. If I’m planning to go out for dinner, I have to restructure my entire day. Your breakfast up there is one of my favorites!
I have definitely found this to be the case time after time! The better I eat earlier, the better I’ll eat later too.
Well, I guess I could say “dinner” is my largest meal, but if I was being accurate, I would say that the period between 4 and 8 pm is when I eat the most. It’s more of a snackfest than a meal :S
I had been wondering how the nutritionist thing was going. How do you like it? Is it going well?
I love breakfast! It is usually the first thing i think about when i wake up. Gotta love a big bowl of overnight oats! 🙂
Dinner is usually my biggest meal of the day…I fail on eating bigger breakfasts. I need to work on that.
Great, Now I want a bagel :0) hehe yumm!
