Hello! Yesterday I had a blast at the Jamba Juice FiTrends event in Santa Monica. I tried a snippet of the best new fitness classes and might have found a new favorite.
It’s an annual event by Jamba Juice and Venus Williams that shares some of the best new fitness trends and new (not even released!) Jamba Juice menu items!
The day started with a smoothie to fuel up for the day! The location was pretty awesome too.
It was great to meet some Los Angeles based fitness bloggers too! I feel like there are so many east coast bloggers, while also getting fitness information from the Skinny Yoked website online. West representing today!
This is Katy, RER, Melissa, Gillian and Tiffany!
The room was set up for getting our sweat on!
We started with a warm up with Venus Williams and her trainer, Samantha Monus.
Top Fitness Trends for 2014
Fitness and healthy living are a combination of what you eat and how you exercise. We tried 4 new-to-me fitness classes that are considering top trends in the industry right now.
1. Pound. Rock out. Workout.
You use drumsticks in the Pound class and use the floor as your drum (there are lower impact options too). The moves are choreographed to the music so you really feel like you’re ‘rocking out’. It’s easy to follow and fun!
Check out my Instagram for a 15 second video of the class!
2. Pop Physique. I know this has been around a while and I’ve heard great reviews of it. This was very ‘burny’. I prefer getting lost in the exercise so I don’t feel like I’m working out, but I’ve heard about people raving about the results.
Sweaty selfie! (Me stalling to get up after the class.)
3. Hoopnotica. This is an exercise class with a weighted hula hoop. It looks like a ton of fun, but I sucked at it. So, I wasn’t really able to get a good workout. However, I was the exception to the rule – about 84% of the other girls in the class did amazing!
4. Surf Set Fitness. Surfing on land! This workout uses ‘surf boards’ set up on balls on the sand – so it feels like you are on un-steady ground, or water.
It wasn’t just working out – we also ate! Run Sweat, Eat, Repeat – works for me!!
We did a tasting of some of the new Jamba Juice juices.
I liked the Veggie Harvest best – I love beets in juices and smoothies!
The exercise sessions were mini-sessions and then we had breaks in between for juices. Half way through the day we had a delicious lunch spread.
My favorite new Jamba Juice isn’t available yet – but it’s coming May 1st! I love Pina Coladas. And getting caught in the rain…
We also had a great session with the infamous Jake from Body by Jake and Venus Williams. Venus spilled the dirt on her LEAST favorite exercise and Jake shared realistic advice on losing weight. That’s coming in the next post because it’s GREAT information and I don’t want it to get lost.
Such a fun day! I’ll take it!!
Question: Do you like fitness classes? What’s your favorite right now??

How fun! I’m actually headed to Santa Monica tomorrow from NYC. Looking forward to checking out the fit scene.
I’ve tried Surfset and something similar to Hoopnotica, but I’d love to try Pound. Must’ve been a great upper body workout too.

Have fun!!

I go to classes at my YMCA all the time. My favorites are HIIT (basically a bootcamp class) and pilates. I wish they offered more times for the rest of the classes offered but I’m glad I can usually make it to at least those!
Jordan says
Pound looks like a really fun workout. It reminds me of Drums Alive, which uses exercise balls as drums rather than the floor. If you haven’t heard of it, you should check it out http://www.drums-alive.com/. I’d also love to try Surf Set Fitness!

Surfing on land looks fun!!
I do enjoy fitness classes. My favorite class at the gym right now is body combat. Love how it’s so active with all the punching and kicking we do.
Elizabeth {Positively Healthy} says
I just took a runners specific class and loved it! Sounds like you had an awesome day!
Livi says
I love strength training classes- it encourages me to lift more than I usually do!

I’ve been enjoying Piloxing for the past month. It’s fun and a very good workout! My shoulders are more toned than ever!
Stephanie @ Whole Health Dork says
I am loving my at-home barre3 28 to Great set. I rotate the DVDs so that I do about one a week, incorporated into a Jillian Michaels DVD, running, and yoga. So I don’t take classes in person, but I feel like I get my own personal class.
That event looks like so much fun! I had heard of the drumming one before as a local barre studio was training with them. Pop Physique looks interesting. I’ve never heard of that before. And the surfboard one sounds really fun! Can’t wait to hear more. What a great event!

Tell us more about the pop class.
This looks like it was an awesome time.

I just took Les Mills Bodypump for the first time this week and loved it!

Wokie, confirm I’ll probably suck at the hula loop thingy! Couldn’t even get it right when I was in school.
Amy @ runlikeabird says
This is AMAZING! I love that they combined fitness and nutrition, and Venus is pretty much remarkable. That Pound/Drumming class sounds like a hoot. 🙂
I’m getting back into hot yoga right now, and it’s all coming back to me. The atmosphere of the studio just sucks you back in. I LOVE it.

runeatrepeat says
Group power sounds intense! What is that?
Annemarie/Carmie says
I recently fell in love with hula hooping! I think you just need the right teacher. It’s the most fun you can have, working on your core!
Flower says
I too suck at the hula hoop. I just can’t even do it. My Mom apparently used to be pretty good at it so one day in Wal-mart she picked one up and tried to show me. She twirled it around and around and then she farted. I swear. I didn’t learn how to hula hoop that day but I did laugh my butt off.
Megan @ The Skinny-Life says
Spin class is my favorite and only fitness class. I am trying Barre again soon. Haha I did that surf board one at a Reebok event last year. I was terrible at balancing!
Erin Vaughn says
That looks like so much fun! The drumming one looked interesting. and don’t worry about the hula hoop class, I have one of those weighted hoops and they bruise the crap out of my hips. Still fun though.
XOXO,
Erin

I haven’t done a fitness class in a long time but I do love some Body Pump!

Looks like an awesome day! My fitness journey started with pump. I don’t do it anymore, but it was a good intro and got me hooked on fitness!
runeatrepeat says
I still haven’t tried that!
