You guys know I love Diner’s, Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Network. I have always wanted to eat at one of the places Guy Fieri highlights. Well, we looked for one in Pittsburgh and scored since there was a restaurant from the show close to where we were.
Big Jim’s actually has bad reviews on Citysearch, but I wanted to give it a shot.
I can understand the bad reviews, the service was bad. The food was good, but I got pizza. It’s really hard to mess up bread and cheese. Each topping is $1.50 extra and I chose to add broccoli, onions, peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes. I love veggies on pizza, but adding all of them really increased the price since they didn’t have a Veggie Pizza on the menu.
Ben got a Rueben topped with a fried egg (he loves a fried egg on anything). He said it was really good 🙂
Overall, the place was definitely a dive…everything seemed old and dingy. But, I completely don’t mind that and feel like it often gives the place character 🙂 The service was poor (the waitresses were complaining out-loud that people were coming in to eat after they closed out their books, but it wasn’t even closing time yet!). The food was good, but nothing special. Maybe I didn’t order their “specialty” and it would have rocked my world?

I once went to one of the places from Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. It was okay, but I feel like all the things on the menu were oversized and greasy and generally unappealing. I think the fun of it was just going somewhere from TV(And apparently Bill Clinton also really liked the place)
