…because I’m over your issues. – That was from some random TV show the longest time ago and for some reason my friends would always say it.
There are 2 different issues I am dealing with in becoming an Intuitive Eater.
1. Overcoming years of dieting and the effects it’s had on my body, hunger signals and psychological impact
2. Overcoming emotional eating
These 2 things are completely different issues and must be dealt with as such. It makes becoming an Intuitive Eater much more difficult when I am not sure why I am eating – it could be “dieting backlash” (from years of restricting) or it could be how I am dealing with a stressful situation.
I am talking about this today because I could not stop eating yesterday afternoon. I had 6 random snacks in the course of a few hours and after that I was angry with myself. I think the snacking was a result of emotional eating, but after I had already “ruined” my day I ended up eating half of Ben’s fries from dinner and some frozen yogurt…that is diet mentality.
I’m glad I am able to draw a line and see exactly where my different habits are coming from, now it’s just a matter of fixing them!
The first step is recognizing the problem. Done.
Next, I must identify what’s making me do it and think of ideas that will help change these super bad and long lived habits!
In the mess of my random eating I did have my all time favorite Whole Foods couscous mixed with chickpeas for protien. I am re-making this dish at home for sure!

great post! like you said, the first step is recognizing a problem. slowly but surely you’ll get there (IE eating). don’t beat yourself up over it because you’re definitely doing the smart and healthy thing

Your insight is what will get you through your food challenges. You’re doing a great job.
It’s so enlightening watching you go through exactly the same process that I did in treatment. It’s almost like deja vu, and makes me appreciate the process more than I probably did while I was going through it.
The best thing you can do is keep learning how to listen to your body, and be kind to yourself.

It’s good to see how well you are handling your eating habits. Analying yourself to get to the root of the problem is definitely the healthiest way to do it.
I had a lot of eating issues when I started college. I was an only child from a small town thrown into college living in a big city where I didn’t know anyone. Combine that with unlimited dorm food access and BAM! – Freshman 15. The sad thing is I didn’t even realize what I was doing to myself. I think back on it now and I just want to slap the 18 year old me. It’s hard to think about how much I abused my body back then.
But nowadays I really try to follow the IE principles as well. They can be hard to adjust to but I think the ideas behind it all are very sound.
