Last night our flight to San Francisco was delayed 2 hours. Boo.
But, it gave us time to explore the new Southwest wing of the John Wayne Airport (in Orange County). They have a Pinkberry!
I packed Ben and myself sandwiches, but he wanted fries and I enjoyed some too.
We also shared a Pinkberry parfait. It’s fro-yo on the top and bottom, fruit and granola in the middle.
After landing in SFO we had to drive ourselves 1.5 hours north to Santa Rosa. With the flight delay we didn’t end up getting to the hotel until after midnight.
This morning I had the biggest runner’s fail of America.
Ben and I were going to take a walk around a local park. When we got there we saw people were wearing bibs. It had crossed my mind to check if there was a race in town, but I didn’t.
Well, there was a HALF MARATHON AT THE PARK WE WERE AT (<- that’s me yelling at myself).
We asked a few people about it and they said, “Well, if you want to run 13 miles…” jokingly. Um, they don’t know me. I would totally do it!
It was 5 minutes to start time and I was already hungry so I didn’t do it. But I kicked myself all day
Moral of the story: ALWAYS check to see if there is a race in the town you’re visiting before you travel.
After missing a race our walk we hit up Whole Foods for breakfast. Surprisingly, this was Ben’s idea. It’s because he thinks everything from the WF bar is super healthy. Just because the mac n’ cheese is organic doesn’t mean it’s good for ya.
Then, we had some business to attend for the day.
At one point I rode in a golf cart and told everyone about my most embarrassing moment because it involved a golf cart. Have I ever told you guys about it??
We broke for lunch around 12:30pm and hit up Subway.
Ben and I spilt a foot long 50-50 or 6 inches–6 inches if you will.
I ate a protein bar and some peanuts while driving around.
The highlight of the day had to be during a random stroll in a park…
Some guy was walking two dogs that looked exactly like goats.
I’ve been craving Thai food for weeks and finally got my fix today. There are a lot of good Thai places in our neighborhood, but I held off because I knew we’d be eating out all weekend. We found a decent place on Yelp and it hit the spot
Thai salad as a starter. (I drank that peanut sauce after this picture.)
I got some veggie / chicken dish that sounded healthy, but came drowned in more peanut sauce. So, I didn’t have to drink that salad dressing after all and ended up consuming a gallon of it in this meal.
I’ve introduced Ben to eggplant and he can’t get enough.
Question: What time is it when you’re done with dinner?
The had a really good St. Patty’s Mint flavor that tasted exactly like a Shamrock Shake and the sf strawberry was delicious!
I was excited about the fruit loops for some weird reason…
Thai food and frozen yogurt! If I had some pizza as an appetizer this would complete my last meal on earth picks.
Before last night’s fries I had a really good week of clean eating. I’ve got to keep chugging beers along. I’m back on the clean eating wagon tomorrow.
Thanks for playing.
Gotta love the fro-yo! My fiance always laughs at me because I do look up races if we’re going to be in an area or because we’ll plan our road trips around races we’d like to do together! Even if we can’t sign up, I love to go cheer the participants on!
Its SO hard to eat clean when traveling!! 🙁
Glad to hear you say you ENJOYED the fries instead of STOLE the fries! Probably not a big deal to most people, but I’m a firm believer in the oh-so-intelligent-sounding motto that “words mean stuff” and associating food choices with negative (or even criminal) behavior could influence your self-image for the worse. Even though fries aren’t the cleanest option, choosing and enjoying them seems like a much healthier way of framing it, in my opinion!
Can you say “hilarious!”? Okay, that’s rhetorical. But I’ve been stalking the blog a few weeks and think you are a hoot.
Oh yea, to answer the question- I eat dinner at 630 if I can help it. Working a night job (till 1am) makes this hard but discipline is my middle name. Okay it isn’t, but I’m trying!
i was totally going to run that race through annadel!
I wish we both would have run it!
What is the golf cart story??? Maybe you could tell it on your next ask a Monican 🙂
I love thai food, and I would be jealous, but I just stuffed my face with pizza and cider
Okay, more frozen yogurt must be in my future!
I happen to be OBSESSED With pink berry and once delclared I would never live in a city without one.
peanut sauce is my bff!
too bad about the race, but it looks like an awesome day anyway!
I’ve looked to see what races are going on in various vacation spots, but I always just end up going on a sight seeing run. Those 45 minutes are usually some of my favorite memories of many of my trips!!
Yum I love pinkberry. Now I’m craving it!
Love the man walking the goats… how random is that?!
That frozen yogurt looked awesome!
I should be 80 years old. I eat at like 430 and am done by 435:)
Which subway sandwich do you get?
Yesterday we got the oven chicken one. It depends on my mood between that and tuna lately 🙂
WTF. Goats!?!! Sooo are you going to share the golf cart story? I had irish mint frozen yogurt yesterday too. #yogasm
I absolutely love Thai food! Thanks for sharing the pics…I was able to caress the screen. Sometimes I hate living in a small rural town. Have a good one!
Eat Live Move: Intuitive Eating from A to Z
The last couple times I’ve been at John Wayne that area has been under construction, so it’s great to know it’s finally open. That airport has grown so much is the last 10 years.
Now I have a Thai food craving…
You should’ve taken that yogurt sign and ran.
oh you really had lots of froyo experiences!!!!!!!!!!!
I live in Santa Rosa and was shocked to open up your blog and see you are here too!
Do NOT kick yourself for not running the Annadel Half Marathon. It is a super intense trail run. The first 8 miles are straight uphill and there are barely any water stops. You are supposed to carry all your own water. Also, it’s been raining for weeks here and from what I read in the paper there were rivers of water running down the trails. It was a muddy, slippery mess and people ran much slower than usual. This is something I want to train for next year!
There are tons of places for a solid double digit run. Do you want flat and fast or a few hills? I ran 13 this morning up in the Healdsburg/Windsor area. If you are interested, I will happily post or e-mail you a few of my fave routes. 🙂
Enjoy your time in beautiful Sonoma County! If you aren’t sick of wine from Paso Robles you should have some here too! Best recovery drink ever post-run. LOL. 🙂
