Hi! I had a long run of 15 miles scheduled this morning, but decided to cut it to 14 because I didn’t bring enough fuel and decided it was for the best. I need to restock my Gu supply, because I do not like the chews I have.
Before I left I fueled up with half a bagel w/ PB and coffee. It was cold and I needed a warm drink (um, I just wrote drank the first time – someone needs to go out).
My run was good! I decided to do my usual weekday uphill out/ down hill back route to make myself go out slower. It worked! I managed negative splits in the second half over the first half. I NEVER do that!
14 miles Average Pace: 9:01
Mile 1: 9:03
Mile 2: 9:09
Mile 3: 9:11
Mile 4: 9:06
Mile 5: 9:10
Mile 6: 9:26
Mile 7: 10:03 (stopped to walk and eat some gus here)
Mile 8: 8:40 And here’s the down hill turn around
Mile 9: 8:24
Mile 10: 8:40
Mile 11: 8:35
Mile 12: 8:42
Mile 13: 8:58
Mile 14: 8:59
Keep in mind, the negative splits are because I was going downhill on the way back, but at least my body is feeling something new. Usually my first few miles are in the 8:40 range and then I completely burn out. Now I just have to get to this pace without the aid of a hill
When I got home I saw this on the table:
We were completely out of breakfast foods and still have Matt here so Ben went to the store to get some supplies. Since there is a Jamba in the same complex he stopped in and got me a smoothie and an oatmeal!
It was the berry oatmeal, which I’m not in love with but the berry topping made a great filler for Ben’s crepe pancakes.
Ben uses the recipe on the side of the Bisquick box and TRIPLES the eggs in it. The result is super light, egg-y pancakes. He makes them thin and super big so they are very similar to crepes.
He also cooks them with butter and recoats the pan for each one, so they’re not healthy by any means (hello the Bisquick has a bunch of shady ingredients!). But, they are delicious and I ended up ditching the oatmeal for a few p’cakes with real maple syrup!
That is a full sized dinner plate – told you they were BIG!
I made myself step into a cold water bath before taking a hot shower. It’s torture.
I usually eat after showering, so I wonder if eating right away will have an affect on my recovery or next run. I’ll let ya know if I notice anything.
See ya later!

YAY negative splits. i always make my routes be hilly in the beginning. that way you can get those effing hills done and over with 🙂
i think it’s great that you’re using downhills to let your body experience something new. after a few more of those types of runs i wouldn’t be surprised if you can hit those negative splits without making the second portion downhill

You are so fast! I don’t know if I’ll ever been that fast for long runs.

You’re so speedy! I’m glad you had a good run this morning.
I have trouble eating while running, so I’m trying GU tomorrow on my long run. My husband and I bought these energy bites by Powerbar (I think) that taste really good, but are a bear to eat while running. Hopefully I’ll have success with the Gu.
Have a great day!
