It’s that time again. Confession Thursday is upon us once again and I thought I’d spill in a stream of consciousness/ random BS way.
But first, can I give some love to my lunch? Egg scramble with tons of guacamole.
And that brings me to…
Confession #1: It’s basically a race to the guacamole whenever we have it because both Ben and I are obsessed. This is one of the few things we both LOVE. Normally we differ on food preferences, but I don’t know who loves guac more.
If one of us is ever “missing” ask the other – “Who ate the last of the guacamole?”
Confession #2: There was a great buy one get one free sale on Vitatops and I partook. The shipment arrived today and I also partook in an “eat one, eat one and pretend it’s calorie free” sale of sorts.
Confession #3: My newest CSA shipment also arrived today! The confession part of this is, I think my money was better spent on the Vitatops.
Confession #4: We moved my standing desk all the way from Maryland only to have it collect dusk and trash since I have a pub height table now 🙂
Confession #5: My recent meals are completely uninventive or photogenic as of late. This is having me reconsider the blog, my goals with the blog and other related topics. Hmmmm.
Confession #6: I went out in search of diet soda tonight to have with dinner. I didn’t need anything else either, just that so I ended up driving through Sonic and being “upsold” to order tater tots too. Who the hell eats tater tots? This girl.
Confession #7: I pawned most of the tots off on Ben.
Confession #8: My close friend pointed out to me today that I always have 100 million things going on (as in I seek out chaos) and never just let myself stop and enjoy life.
I don’t like me “just as I am” and feel the need to fill my time with accomplishments that will contribute to my self worth.
I’ve decided to work on this starting now.
Confession #9: I don’t really “get” this baby fever everyone has. (And by everyone I mean Caitlin and Brie. Just kidding. Kinda.)
The last few times I’ve hung out with new moms they seem tired, cranky and stress to me that I should, “Enjoy my free time!” and “Travel! Travel now as much as you can!” in a way that I hear as, “Good God save yourself and get your tubes tied now!!!!!!”
Q: Can the moms in the audience chime in on this? Do I have it all wrong??
Confession #10: My throat hurts and I’ve been using it as an excuse to down copious amounts of hot chocolate, tea and vodka. Sometimes all in one cup. Okay, not really.
Question: When did you learn where babies came from? And could you please fill me in?

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

Well, I’m not going to sugarcoat it and say that everyday is easy, but babies are fun! You reorganize your priorities, but it seems ok when you actually have the baby in front of you. I think I might actually run more now than before my baby, mostly because my gym doesn’t have childcare so I always have to run, lol. If you start early, babies love jogging strollers! I never, never, never wanted babies until I met my husband…and he makes pretty cute babies!
Don’t worry about “losing your figure” either. I went back to my normal size in 5 weeks without doing a darn thing. By 6 weeks post baby, I was running again.
My baby is 5 months old now and I highly recommend the experience 🙂
The “travel now” advice is still sound. You won’t believe what a pain in the a** it is to pack up everything a baby needs 😛

Ok I’m going to chime in for sure. I’m not sure how old you are (I can I not really know that after reading so long). Anyway, you are young so you should spend some time on you and Ben. However, don’t tie those tubes. Having children will be the GREATEST joy of your life. It’s really undescribable how much children will bring to your life. And if you’re waiting to feel ready, you may never feel that way but when the baby arrives you’ll know it is right!

i don’t know if i’ll ever jump on the baby bandwagon. they terrify me. and i wish they came via “EGRETS” because I’m pretty sure if a stork showed up at anyones door with a baby like they always picture it, people would scream because storks are very very ugly. i’ve held one. and they’re not nice either.
hahahahah!

I think everyone is different. I have never been a “kid person” so I thought I would feel the same way about my own. We waited till I finished school and became a workaholic. One day, my work project was done and I knew it was time. Best thing ever. I loved the newborn stage. One thing though…you realize you have this crazy love for the little person. It is nuts. I can’t explain it, but it’s amazing. But, I am glad I waited till I was ready – you’ll know.
Anna @ History Running Girl says
No baby fever here. Not at all. I like babies. I just don’t want one.
Karen says
I am with you on the guac – seriously addictive. And the CSA bag… I love my CSA but there were more than a few weeks where I thought I must be the only person who doesn’t like okra because I was getting tons of it!

Hi friend. I love this post. I have slight baby fever but it’s more an idealistic thing. I would love certain parts but know I’m not ready by any means. My husband has “not having a baby for at least 5 years” fever so we’ve got time. 🙂 I also have friends who have the sweetest baby that they weren’t planning on for a few more years and they love her but tell us to wait a few more years.
Anywho..let’s see..what else. OH YES, most importantly: you’re hilarious, you’re beautiful, you’re totally wonderful and instead of filling your days to make you feel better, treat yourself right and RELAX. We’ll hopefully be able to remind you everyday how great you are by just being you.
One last random thought that popped into my head: Tater Tots MaGots …that’s a great nickname.
Mama Pea says
Was I tired and cranky when we met? Okay, I’ll give you the tired.
WAIT. You have plenty of time.

I have baby fever too but I am listening to reason!!! I don’t want one yet!! Not for a few years.

“Husband” and “Wife” doesn’t have to equal “Daddy” and “Mommy.” I heard somewhere that married couples without kids are the happiest people. My boyfriend (age 30) and I (age 28) are leaning towards not having kids, mostly because we love to travel. We talk about retiring at 40, traveling the world, and flying back and forth between NY (his family) and Chicago (my family) whenever we want. Not possible when you have a 6th grader and 3rd grader with school, soccer, ballet etc. I love kids, and will be an adoring aunt when my sister has kids.
shannon says
i admit, most days i cannot stand the thought of having kids:) they seem like way too much work and i am too selfish to share (1) my free time and (2) time with my husband. i’m not sure we’ll ever have kids, but they certainly don’t seem like a barrel of fun at the moment (note: i am 30).
Caitlin (EatFeats) says
Ew babies. I don’t remember learning where babies come from, but I distinctly remember sitting at a restaurant along the Bay in San Francisco and realizing that having children would be hugely immoral (for me). Plus, I do NOT want to be pregnant, go through labor, or deal with how freaking annoying kids are.
But with all these pregnant bloggers, it’s hard to resist wanting to jump on the bandwagon! It’s hard to remember that it’s not like buying a new jar of almond butter.
Also, my boyfriend and I both like guacamole as well, but, since he knows I like it, he always leaves it for me! So sweet.
Aimee says
P.S. I am pretty sure that I learned where babies come from by reading the Jackie Collins books I stole from my mom’s bookshelf!!! By the time my mom made me read “Where I Come From” I already knew where I came from.
Aimee says
Yes definitely enjoy your time as a newlywed for as long as you want to. My husband and I were married for 5 years before we had our son and I wouldn’t trade that time for anything. We had just begun trying to get pregnant and it happened pretty quickly, but we were ready (as ready as anyone can be). My life has changed so much since this amazing, funny, smart, gorgeous little boy came into my life. That was almost 4 years ago. Oh jeez I’m getting teary. He makes me want to be active and play outside. Just his presence in my life pushes me to be the healthiest person I can be. Since he was born I have lost over 60 pounds. We have changed our eating habits immensely. My son and I go hiking together. I began running last year and 2 weeks ago I ran my first half marathon. My son and husband were waiting for me at the finish line. My son told me that he wants to run a race with me. He will one day!
Having children is such a personal commitment. I now deal with the guilt of possibly not wanting to have more. To each their own I say. I always knew that when the time was right we would know it and we did. If we feel that way again then we will have another. Until then I will savor every single moment I have with my son.
Your blog cracks me up. I love your honesty. You are terrific just the way you are.
Corey @ the runner's cookie says
Haha I actually cannot remember when or where I learned that! I honestly don’t think I ever got “the talk” from my mom, so maybe from my friends??
I think it’s totally fine/normal to not have the “baby fever” – when and if there is a right time for you, you’ll know it! (At least that’s what I’m hoping for myself too…)
Amber K says
I have been trying for kids with my husband for almost four years! So I definitely have the baby fever.
Luckily my best friend has four that I get to hang out with. (ages 6, 4, and twin 1-year-olds).

This girl loves tater tots too! Fortunately for me there is no Sonic near me.
Funny story, my bf thought that girls got pregnant by peeing in them. He claims he was like 7 when he thought this….makes me laugh every time.
Amanda says
You are totally right about the mom thing. My friends that are moms look exhausted and don’t have time to do my favorite thing, sleep. Andy reminds me of this whenever I start talking about babies and I get over it.
I have no idea when I actually learned how babies were made. I think a friend in middle school told me and I was SHOCKED!
chandra says
I *love* tator tots! 🙂 I usually make my own though, so I can have them oven baked, not deep fried.
As for the baby thing, I am FAR from baby fever. I don’t even have boyfriend fever right now. lol
PS: You are wonderful “just as you are” and don’t need a million things going on to prove your worth. ♥ 🙂
Alyssa says
1. Totally don’t get the baby fever, but my husband has it, so I feel baby fever guilt.
2. Going to see the in laws this weekend and I love them but I’m already laying the ground work to go home early sick on Saturday and spend sunday at the library doing grad work/facebooking.
3. When I serve dinner for me and the hubby I take a mental note of which plate is “better” and that one is mine.
4. I am in post marathon recovery and turns out on days I don’t work out, I don’t find showering necessary. Apparently the only reason I follow normal hygiene rules was because I was getting sweaty.
Stacie @ Imperfectly Healthy says
I’m 26 and everyone around me either wants babies or is already having babies. It scares me.

Ha! Sorry!
I really like this blog post (and especially the awesome comments) about the whole baby fever phenomenon. I think I owe a lot of the fever to the mommy blog movement–I feel like I have a glimpse into what’s on the other side, and I like it: http://temerity-jane.com/life/you-dont-know-my-hypothetical-future-child-should-i-have-it/
Also…I don’t know. I’ve done the crazy twenties thing in college and law school and I’m over it. But to each her own!
Lee says
Tater tots rule!
Sometimes I think that I want a baby but then, like you said, my friends that have kids scare me out of it! Also, I’ve only been married for 4 months so I just remind myself of that when the urge strikes!
amanda @ fake ginger says
Babies are awesome! 😀
I have a 3 year old and an 11 month old. Both my kids sleep 12 hours a night at least plus the baby takes 2 naps a day. If I’m tired, it’s my own damn fault for not going to bed. If I’m cranky, it’s just because I’m an ornery person sometimes.
For me, everything is so much more fun with kids. Traveling, holidays, just regular family outings… they mean more to me now than they did when it was just me & my husband.
Kelli says
COuldnt of said it better! Everything is so much more fun holidays vacations even going out to eat (well most times!!) Not going to lie newborn stage is tough but everyday gets better!
Lindsay says
I have four kids. It is hard when they are babies–it is a different kind of hard when they get older (mine are 9, 7, 7 and 3). But it is certainly rewarding and exciting and challenging and entertaining as well!
I say wait until you are ready and don’t rush into it. Once you go there you can never go back. And you are still young! You have plenty of time. Enjoy it!
alison says
I love tater tots. I rememeber Rachael Ray once saying that she felt sorry for food snobs because they’ll never know and appreciate the awesomeness of the tater tot. I’m inclined to agree.
Anyway….take it from me, enjoy yourselves before it’s time for babies. I wish I had taken my own advice and waited a few more years. Babies are cute and cuddly and the clothes are adorable, but there is so much more to it. I think women caught in baby fever only see the cuteness; I know that I did. Kids are cute (and worth it), but parenthood is hard. And consuming. And sometimes you want to crawl in a hole and pretend your name isn’t mom.
I guess anyone with baby fever should spend the day at my house. I have an only child, who is pretty great after overcoming the terrible 2s and 3s, but her friends tend to migrate here. It’s a free for all on most days and me (and my house) usually come out on the losing end.
Not to scare you or anything…. 😉
Orla says
I think I must be the one person in the HL blogging community (well, only in a reader capacity!) that doesn’t want kids. The baby fever absolutely baffles me!
Lauren says
My hubby never liked guacamole until he had it again this past weekend. Now he is obsessed, which I can’t really say I’m all that thrilled about. That just means I’ll have to share my portions. 🙁
Oh babies. Someday but definitely not today! 🙂
amanda says
I go in waves of wanting to have kids and then I don’t. My hubby and I are very selfish in the sense we love to travel and have our free time to ourselves. We are at the point of if it happens it happens but we are not trying. Some couples just don’t have kids. Also wanted to say that I got the special that was offered on Vitatops too. I love them way too much and can eat 2-3 day. I try to limit that since they are so expensive!
Courtney (Pancakes & Postcards) says
i just want to skip forward to the part where i have a happy, whole family instead of going through the whole having babies part.
