How’s it going? Today was pretty busy.
and itchy.
I’m completely covered in bug bites from Florida. Covered. If you want to be grossed out you can check out my instagram pic and multiply it by 500x on my back. I’m a leper. Or a leopard.
I grabbed the Ralphs brand of greek yogurt in my whirlwind shopping trip this morning. It’s no where near the same as the name brand stuff. This is definitely a situation where it’s worth it to spend the money for the ‘real’ thing.
After work I went on a cooking rampage because the rest of the week looks like it’s going to be pretty busy too and I am trying to get ahead of it. So, I cooked up ravioli, brussel sprouts and stuffed mushrooms for dinner. I made enough for Ben to take enough for lunch for 2 days. And I made chicken for salads and dinner tomorrow.
Random afternoon snack – Chickpeas and carrots.
Okay, I’m about to make a protein shake and catch up with the Real Housewives of NY. There wasn’t a new NJ episode, right?!
Of Interest:
Jillian Michaels will be back on the Biggest Loser Next Season – and they’ll have teenage contestants!
Paul Ryan (the Republican VP nominee who looks like Toby McGuire) said he ran a marathon in under 3 hours. Nope. Turns out he ran it in 4:01. What else is he lying about? Shady…
Amber K says
I completely don’t understand why he would lie about his marathon time. Like, who cares how fast a politician can run? Makes.no.freaking.sense. Ugh.
Jac @ Challenged & Running in the Bike Lane says
I agree with you about Greek yogurt – you get what you pay for!
sally kate says
i’m so excited about jillian coming back AND i heard about the vice pres candidate marathon thing last night on chelsey lately. wow- does he have a clue that when you run for politics everyone QUADRUPLE checks what you say about yourself? and ps marathon times are about as hard to stalk on as your ex boyfriend on facebook…
melissa @ trying toheal says
wait, you went to florida!? good god i havent checked blogs in a long time! time to go catch up! im almost done in the forest, another week or so and then ill be traveling about and going to places that i think you should go to. so take your fall trip to PERU!
runeatrepeat says
When will you be home?!
Sarah says
Love your last line of the post- HAHAHA! politicians (shaking head with disgust/disappointment)
Denise P. says
Ouch! I need to find a good (natural-type) bug spray for my upcoming Hawaii trip.
I’m on a big brussel sprouts kick lately. I don’t know why my mom never tried feeding them to me as a kid. They are so tasty- or maybe that’s just cause I buy the frozen ones all slathered in butter.
Lindsay says
NPR actually had a really interesting story about Greek yogurt “wars”. Apparently the machines that produce it are very hard to come by, and most of the larger dairy companies are on waitlists for them, so in the interim they’ve added a thickening agent to the yogurt to mimic the thickness of Greek yogurt without going through the traditional process of creating real Greek yogurt. I believe only Chobani and Fage produce authentic Greek yogurt without the additive. The more you know, right??
runeatrepeat says
YES! I heard that story too and wrote up a post about it then I lost it 🙁 I loved that story since the owner of Fage was so passionate about keeping the quality of Greek yogurt up.

I saw the pic of the bites! omgg!
I’m so stoked that Jillian is coming back! And I love the rules for the teenage contestants (they won’t show their weight, and they can’t get kicked off)!
Seriously, why lie about your marathon time. We aren’t going to vote for you if you are fast, but we aren’t going to vote for you if you are lying about stuff.

I ate my first enchilada yesterday. Hard to believe, I know. Michael gets the leftovers for lunch.

I am with you on the NJ Housewives. Can’t wait to see it next week. Dina is back!

Dina is my favorite ever!!!!
Lacey @ familyfitnessandfoodery says
Haha. Paul Ryan. Who lies about something like that. Liar Liar VP on fire. P.S. Nice going on the eats Martha!
Carolyn says
I hear you on the Paul Ryan time! 4 hours is still good, why lie about that?
Erica { EricaDHouse.com } says
Haha that is so not surprising about PR’s marathon time!
And, as someone who lives in FL can attest, bugs here are a *nightmare* – just be glad you made it out alive!
KRissy says
I’m covered in bug bites too. Here’s to hoping our itching subsides soon. Yeah, you have to wonder about someone who is an hour off on their stated marathon time… What’s wrong with 4 hours? He’s a politician, not a professional runner. Would anyone have thought less of him for being honest? I just don’t get it.
Sue says
What do you put in those mushrooms? I see cheese on top (which I don;t take); I’m looking for ways to eat my mushrooms (I usually have them stirfried with assorted veg and Asian sauce/soy sauce etc).
runeatrepeat says
I just sauteed them in olive oil, garlic, salt and everyday seasoning. There isn’t any cheese on them.
Elizabeth Dalton says
No, no New Jersey Housewives. I can’t wait. Looks like a its gonna be good one. New York could’ve been longer. LOL. #HousewivesFan
Those stuffed mushrooms look good! Yum!
Bethany says
Please tell me you’ve seen the Paul Ryan Marathon Calculator? haha

Sandee says
Hahaha! The calculator is funny! Thanks for sharing!
Sheila says
Uh…that calculator is the best thing that happened to my Tuesday. Wait, it’s a close tie to my son learning to read.
runeatrepeat says
Ha! I love it!

Haha, nice.

Bumner about the bites, I am sure the trip was worth it though!
I don’t think he is lying, oh and my PR is 3:05
I am having a cooking festival of my own. Been going since I got home and it is now 9:00. I am hot and tired.
Angie says
There was no new RHONJ this week. Bummer! NYC is finally getting good and I can’t decide who to blame for that crazy fight.
Christine @ BookishlyB says
It’s taking every single ounce of self-control to not further your discussion Paul Ryan’s credibility… Anyway, I love the idea of prepping food at the beginning of the week but never, ever do it.
runeatrepeat says
Ha! I know, I’m going to have trouble keeping my mouth shut over the next 2 months…
Nikki says
We can at least all agree that it’s pretty kooky that he would “misremember” his only marathon time by over an hour!!!
(kooky = total b.s.)**
**sorry, had to:-)
Christine @ BookishlyB says
Is it safe to say he’s lost all the votes from the runners? Kidding, kidding. He probably bandits races too 😉
Becky @ RunFunDone says
Sorry about your bug bites!
Just a little tip regarding shopping for yogurt: I actually make greek yogurt, and it’s a pretty simple thing…heat up milk, add yogurt, let it incubate. This makes yogurt. To make it “greek,” you just strain it to make it thick. Sooo, if your yogurt ingredients list anything but milk and bacteria, that’s your problem right there. I’ve found some “off” brands will add thickeners and things that affect the taste. Blech.
So next time you’re in a grocery store wondering whether to save or splurge, just look at the ingredients!
Mel says
Wow I’m going to have to try this out, I’ve often found that the brands I buy never really taste right. Hopefully this little tip will change that haha! Thanks 🙂
Lindsay @ A Fit Family says
I also make my Greek yogurt–it is sooooooo good. I could never go back to buying it!
