Hi! I have an awesome giveaway from FITCODE today. But first let’s talk about running and stuff…
This morning I did an easy 4 mile shake out and 21 day fix Pilates. This is not my favorite workout in the series, but it’s good to keep changing it up. I just don’t feel it ‘working’. I’m sure it’s my form that’s lacking.

Before I went running I had some watermelon. I made it all disappear except for one seed that I found later…

It was a short run, but I did spot this GORGEOUS flower while I was out there. It was so bright and colorful – this picture doesn’t do it justice.

The other day at Trader Joe’s I spotted these Sacha Inchi Seeds. They looked super interesting and the nutrition stats are pretty good!

Fairly comparable to other nuts…

Here’s the nutrition information for almonds to compare:

But I don’t think they’re as good as almonds (or cashews). They are a little chalky in a way? But I store my nuts in the freezer to make them even crunchier so maybe after a while in there will make it a little more my jam.

In other random snack news – I wanted hominy so I bought some. It only comes in huge cans!

Vegas wants to say ‘hi’ in his own ‘I’m ignoring you, but I want you to know I’m ignoring you’ way…

FITCODE Giveaway
FITCODE is a DNA test that analyzes your genes which have been identified as influencing specific fitness-related responses like what can help you boost in testosterone production. It can tell you how fast you recover from a hard workout, if you are potentially better suited for endurance vs power exercise, details on your joints and more. Improve your health with Charlotte’s TRT clinic especially if you need to boost your testosterone levels.

I am very interested in my health, fitness, recovery and pre-disposition to certain strengths/weaknesses in my body so I am excited to see what the test says.
I think I have a good idea of how my body responds to endurance exercise vs explosive and how it recovers from exercise, but I’m curious if my FITCODE report will confirm those suspicions. I’m also curious about the metabolism info – especially with my thyroid issues, I suspect it’s a little sluggish. (Speaking of slow metabolisms, this info would be a piece of the entire pie of info that is my body/thyroid issues.)
And I appreciate that the letter that comes with the results reminds you that genes are complicated and this is a new science – so it’s not perfect and it does not define you. But it can give you an idea of where you can push yourself and where you should nurture yourself a little more.
Example of results (not mine):

This is my lil profile. I have to swab my cheek for 30 seconds, put it in a special bag and then mail it off to them.

FitCODE has offered one RER reader kit to get their own genetic fitness assessment!

Open to residents of Earth (I’m mailing the prize to you, but you may have to pay extra shipping if you are outside the US).
Closes 10/16/16 12pm PST. Leave a comment on this post to enter.
Question: Do you think your body is more prone to Sprinting or Endurance?
(If you don’t want to enter the contest you can just note that in the comment.)
FitCODE kit provided by ORIG3N. All opinions are my own.
Me please!!! I would love to know what my genes say,
I’m a natural at endurance, but definitely not sprinting! I think this stuff is so interesting 🙂
I’ve wondered about this and I honestly don’t know which camp I fall in, but I sure would love to find out!
I would be pretty interested in this, especially as I get older and notice my metabolism and body response changing … how much is genetic v environment? Always a big question.
sounds interesting………….science is weird!
I am definitely curious about my.genetics
Sprinting!! I’d love to try this!! I’m really curious what my results would be!
I’m definitely better with endurance…I am SO not a sprinter or jumper haha. This is an awesome giveaway, it’d be so cool to see the results!
I am definitely more endurance than sprinting!
most definitely built for endurance, no question. and i’m glad about that 🙂
this is very cool! love science.
What a cool set of info to have!
Endurance FOR SURE. I’d rather be comfortable for a long time than uncomfortable for a short period of time.
This sounds fascinating. I was a sprinter in junior and high school, but am now a marathoner. I wonder if I’ve moved all my intermediate twitch to slow or if I’m fighting the inevitable…
Such interesting stuff! I’m definitely in for the giveaway as I’d love to learn more info about my body and genes! I think I’m more prone to endurance and still love getting out for long solo runs on the weekends even if I’m running consistently day to day. Thanks for the giveaway. 😀
I was much better at sprinting when I was younger, but after high school I started to enjoy longer distances more
Probably sprinting because it’s something I hate to the core!
Endurance fo sho. I can’t sprint worth anything
I was a sprinter when I was younger, then went to longer distances . I would be interested to see what my results would be from FITCODE!
Ever since I saw a reporter try this out during the Olympics, I’ve totally wanted to try it. I might be surprised by the results since the things I like always seem to be more of an uphill battle for me than for others.
I’ve never been fast so I suspect endurance
That’s awesome! I’m pretty sure my body prefers endurance…I would love to be a better sprinter though.
What an interesting test! I definitely think I’m more of a sprinter than endurance type of girl. I would love to see what the test said about me.
Pretty sure I would do better with endurance
I think mine is towards endurance, mostly because I couldn’t sprint to save my life!
I’m def better suited for endurance.
sprinting. but, i wish it wasn’t.
I think this sounds really interesting! I would love to see what it says about me.
Definitely better with endurance– maybe because I don’t have the mental stamina for pushing hard for sprints (not competitive at all!) But i would LOVE to get the test– what a cool way to learn more about yourself!!
I’m not sure what my body is more prone to but I enjoy shorter, harder exercises too long endurance.
Pick me pick me pick me! That is so awesome—i want to see if it knows that i can run a marathon no problem but on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being Usain Bolt and 1 being a turtle, I’m a negative three.
I’d love to enter the contest!
I found your blog a few weeks ago, after reading some other health blogs for my first half coming up tomorrow, eek. Really love your advice, thank you!
Definitely endurance!
I think I am endurance athlete all the way 🙂
I have heard of these tests and they sound so fantastic. I would Love to be able to have this test done.
I love your posts and look forward to them every day!!
Sprinting for sure! I just started running this past April and can sprint like there’s no tomorrow but running more than a few miles….well, that’s another story!!
I think I would be endurance but when I did the 23 and me it told me I was more built for power which was a surprise! so I would be curious what this one says
Enter me please! And I’m definitely more prone to endurance. I’d rather run at a decent clip for 2 hours than “all out” for 20 minutes.
I think I am better at endurance
Endurance. When I am injury free, I feel like I can run forever!
Endurance for sure! My body just about collapses after two seconds of trying to do sprint work. Slow and steady wins the race for me!
I would love to try this!!
I’m much better at endurance than sprinting. It usually takes me 2-3 miles to warm up!
The fit code sounds very interesting to me! Also I tried the Sacha Inchi Seeds and felt the same way.
Endurance, for sure!
Endurance all the way!
How cool! I’d love to see what it says…
I tend to do more endurance sports but I think I might be a sprinter.
Pretty sure I don’t have the sprinter gene – that would be my sister back in our swimming days. 🙂 Would be interesting to see the results from a test like this.
I always assume I’m better at endurance, but I have not yet worked on improving my sprinting, so I don’t really know what’s possible! Working on sprinting is up next for me 🙂
My body is better for sprinting…I keep trying but can’t bring my endurance up too much but my sprints keep getting faster
Endurance for sure! I read somewhere that the longer the distance, the better women tend to do against men. Something about our bodies being built for endurance so we can handle childbirth.
Endurance! But really neither right now as I am recovering from a bad cold. Hope to get out there again soon.
This sounds darn cool. Would love to give it a try. I have autoimmune disorders like Hashimoto’s (thyroid) and other markers, and going through all of those things sparked an interested in all things genetic/diseasey. Creepy, I know. I think my body was made for the long haul, not speed. Speed work always seems IMPOSSIBLE, but I feel like I could keep running (without any aches and pains even) at a slow pace for a very long time.
Doesn’t seem to cooperate well with either 🙂
The genetic profiling would be interesting! I’m not fast so I guess I would be endurance.
This sounds totally, totally rad. I want my fit code but it better not say I’m suited for ice dancing or synchronized swimming.
That FITCODE is so interesting, I have never heard of it! I would love to win this!!! And it depends on the day.. sometimes I enjoy sprints more than long runs
Oh, I am for sure meant for sprinting. I have no endurance. Wahh!
How interesting! I think I am more of an endurance athlete but it would be cool to find out for sure.
This sounds awesome! Crazy what we can find out with just a little swap on the cheek 🙂
I’d love to see the results! I think I’m better at endurance… except my joints don’t agree. So perhaps it’s just that I’m more comfortable going for say a 10 mile run than doing HIIT sprints? I’ve recently tried Barry’s Bootcamp and loved the sprints though, so now I’m confused if my mind likes endurance (because it’s more familiar with it and not used to being pushed to all out max) or if my body truly likes endurance better as well. Haha hopefully that ramble makes sense!
I would like to think endurance, but I was quick during high school, so who knows!
This would be super interesting to find out. I’ve been a distance runner for a while now but I’ve always played sports like soccer and ultimate frisbee at the same time. (I’m also getting my thyroid tested next week…)
I think I am better suited to sprints. Endurance kills me lol.
I would LOVE to get a genetic fitness assessment! I love looking at my anscetry and this would add another cool level to see how my genetics impact my fitness tendencies. I’m definitely an endurance girl. I love being able to settle in and feel good (which running slow and steady does for me) while sprinting makes me want to die.
Definitely endurance. I also enjoy endurance a lot more than pushing myself like crazy for a short period of time. I would be interested to see if that’s what my body actually does need or do best at, would love to win this. Thanks!
I would love to try this. I go through phases but I think I’m more of a sprinter.
I did not even know this was something that could be tested. How cool. Definitely interested in this!
How should I eat hominy!?!? It looks so interesting but I never know what to do with it! Teach me in your Monican ways!!
I totally want to enter the contest! I’m a Kinesiology major and really dig this stuff! I might even be able to use it as an assignment one day. Good luck to me. 😉
Yea, my cats can be jerky like that too. I just snuggle them even when they act like they don’t want to have anything to do with me. I know they’re just playing hard to get!
Have a great weekend.
PS – I ran almost 4 miles this morning. Started in the dark, ended in the dark. It was hard. When will I get my endurance back? I had a really bad case of bronchitis last March, and just haven’t seemed to get back to where I was before getting sick. 🙁 But, I’m still out there!
I am curious.
I am an endurance girl
I am so interested in what my results would be, I love endurance but think I would respond better to sprints! Maybe because I don’t do them 🙂
I would guess more endurance but I might be surprised!
I’m not very strong or fast, so I’m gonna say my body is better suited for endurance. I, too, have a crappy thyroid, so I would love to see the complete analysis!
I’d love to win this! I always want to learn more about the way my body responds to various workouts!
FitCODE sounds awesome! I’d love to try it. I think I’m better suited for endurance, but I could be wrong!
Considering I think I’m the world’s slowest runner, I think endurance. But it would be cool to find out with FitCode.
I would guess endurance but am now super curious to find out.
I would definitely say my body is made for endurance…but I also think it is because I am stubborn as hell and I can talk myself into anything once I set my mind on a goal 🙂
I am more prone to endurance, I am super slow but can go for a long time. This seems interesting!
How cool! I need to win this so bad
I’d love to give Fitcode a try! I think i’m an endurance girl for sure.
This is so interesting. I think maybe sprinting? i dont know tho…
I’ve always wondered how much genetics actually play into which activities/types of activities a person excels at. I’d LOVE to be able to try this myself!
This is so interesting and I’d love to try it
The Fitcode looks very interesting. I am definitely an endurance athlete.
I think I am more prone to sprints. When I used to swim I was always better at the shorter races than the longer ones.
Oh wow! That’s so cool! I’ve wondered for a long time if I was better off running or heavy lifting or both. And the metabolic info would be especially good to know. So cool that stuff like this exists!
The FITCODE looks really interesting! I need to go check it out. I’m definitely more of an endurance girl than a sprinter.
I’m going to say Sprinting. But that’s probably more mental than scientific, because I’m always trying to get ish done as quickly as possible.
I’d have to say my body leans more toward endurance – the first 3 miles of my long runs feel like a struggle but after that I settle into a good groove.
I am more prone to endurance but would love to tackle the challlenge of sprinting one day.
Oh I’ve always wanted to try this gene testing, but it’s so expensive. I suspect my body is not made for endurance, but something more like power lifting.
Definitely better at endurance than sprinting – at least that’s what my mind convinces me.
Ooh I need it.
Oooh I need it.
This test sounds really interesting. I like to run long but maybe I have a sprinter inside? I’d love to find out.
I think I am better suited in for endurance.
This sounds amazing! Would love to know what my body is best suited for!
I’m curious to see if I’m better with endurance or speed.
I have no idea what I am suited for! I’m dying to know. Are you going to share results?
I’m FASCINATED by this! Would love to give it a try!
Sprinting – but I have kind of conditioned it over the years to maintain some endurance
I’m guessing sprinting.
The FITCODE concept is intriguing! I think I’m more suited for marathons/endurance events, but would like to see that confirmed/refuted.
I think I’m more of a sprinter.
I suspect endurance. This sounds very nice interesting. I’d love to find out about my metabolic rate. I have been diagnosed with a thyroid condition too an suspect my metabolism is lacking.
Sprinting for sure! I work in biotech so I’m always interested in how genetics influences this 🙂
I think I’m more of an endurance gal! and wondering about my metabolic rate, we have thyroid issues in our family. Awesome giveaway, very interesting!
So interesting! I’d love to know this type of information.
Endurance for sure. This sounds really interesting!
I think my body is more adapted to sprinting …but I could be wrong!
This is so interesting, thanks for sharing!
This is awesome! Would love to try this. I think I’d be endurance, but it would be fun to test and find out. Thanks for this give away, very cool! ☺
I’d love to understand my assessment!
I’m definitely more of an endurance person – my legs don’t like to move very fast 🙂
I am definitely better at endurance… though I wish I could sprint! Maybe this test would help me to figure out how?!
I have never been fast so I think I’m built for endurance. This seems like a super interest test!
Definitely endurance!
I am definitely more of an endurance person! I could never run the fastest but could always be one of the last standing/running!
Definitely endurance!! I can do sprint running but sprinting on the assault bike is my worst enemy.
That would be super interesting! I think I’m better at sprinting than endurance. But even better at lifting heavy things slowly 😉
I feel I’m more prone to endurance.
I’m definitely an endurance person!
Endurance for sure!
It’s so crazy that they can tell so much stuff about us and the way that we are by just a cheek swab!
I’m intrigued by the FITCODE! I’m guessing I would be more fit for endurance but I’m curious. Also glad there’s no blood work to find out!
I used used to work in a genetics lab in college so I’m especially interested in this. So cool!
Endurance! I’m too slow to be a sprinter
It sounds legit says my boyfriend!
Definitely endurance!
Geeking out! This sounds SO cool!!
definitely more suited for endurance
I would have said endurance a few years ago; but lately I have been really thriving with short high-intensity workouts and sprint training. Who knows?!?
I am more of an endurance human. This applies to most aspects of my life beyond fitness.
And I really hope I win that kit. 🙂
This kit sounds way cool. Can I be neither sprinting or endurance? Ugh. I do think probably marginally better with endurance. I’m very slooooow.
What an interesting giveaway! I love intervals, so I am going to go with sprinting.
Endurance. Sprinting makes me uncomfortable.
This sounds awesome! I think my body is more prone to sprinting but I am training for a half marathon so hoping for a little endurance 🙂
I think I’m better suited to sprinting. This is such a cool test!
I think I’d be more of an endurance girl but love pushing myself to be faster! I can’t run anymore (I have a vertebrae missing the piece that locks it in place, crazy right?) so I’m starting to look for my ‘new’ sport. Cycling my be my new jam.
I think endurance is my niche because I don’t run fast enough for sprint work! I’m curious now.
I actually think its better suited for sprint, but I enjoy endurance more!
Definitely endurance! I can keep steady but the second I have to run fast, I’m done! Knowing my true fitcode sounds really interesting!
Definitely endurance!
I’m guessing I’m more endurance bc I don’t think any part of me sprints in any way But you never know…BUT I would know if I won this!!!
That’s so cool. I think I’m more of an endurance type not sprinter type.
I’m pretty sure I’m more meant for endurance but I do love sprinting more (even though I’m not too great at it)!
I’m definitely more of an endurance girl, but I want to be a sprinter! (Not enough to do the work for it, though.)
The FITCODE sounds really interesting!!
I have always thought I’m built more for endurance than speed….any idea if it offers ways to improve areas of weakness?
I love hominy. My Mom put it in frito pie when I was little. This test is so cool. I had no idea these existed.
I’m fairly sure my body is better at endurance workouts than sprint workouts. I can keep up a steady pace for a long time, but sprints and other interval workouts are the worst!
That sounds pretty interesting.
