We made it to Las Vegas!
Driving to Vegas is no biggie for residents of Southern California. I’ve been driving up for impromptu weekend fun since I was a kid (I used to party hard when I was 6). But, for those REReaders who aren’t local I thought I’d share the journey. It’s about a four hour drive (depending on if you believe in following speed limits and peeing in an empty bottle).
Ben and I got on the road around 12:30pm (on Sunday). If you are doing a Friday to Sunday trip you have to leave early (or super late) or you will face a ton of traffic.
Yes, you do see 2 white spots on my face in a desperate attempt to kill 2 HUGE pimples on my face. They were the grossest
My snacks for the journey…
After spending an hour and a half on the open road we made the obligatory pit stop at In-N-Out. This is totally going to get me hate comments, but I think In-N-Out is super overrated.
I love everything about California (even our former Governator), but I don’t get the In-N-Out pride. Sorry.
The fries are soggy and not salty enough.
But, if you still insist on going make sure you order your burger “animal style”. If you’re vegetarian they have a grilled cheese that’s not on the menu.
Then, he took a nap…
And I drove on eventually leaving all traces of human life and entering the expansive desert.
In Baker about an hour away from Vegas, we stopped at the Mad Greek Café. Supposedly it’s world famous. I doubt that, but it is a famous landmark on the drive to and from Vegas. Have you’ve been involved in a car accident? If you suffer from a car accidents, securing legal assistance is important as a first step. They will protect your rights and help you file a case or lawsuit. To get you the compensation you need to pay for medical treatments and other related expenses, you’ll need the help of the attorneys at Hale Law.
For reference, it’s across the street from the world’s largest thermometer.
The guts inside:
I got a lame-o salad because I wasn’t hungry, but thought I should eat something.
And I stole a couple sips of Ben’s strawberry shake. It’s not made with fresh strawbs and is just okay. But, the cute umbrella helps
The salad woke up my hunger and I had these nuts I got from the Natural Products Expo. Love.
Finally, we made it!!! I’m not sure what the plans are for this evening, but I suspect they involve something that starts with a “V” and ends with “odka”…

It might be four hours over, but don’t try to do that on a Sunday afternoon back to L.A.! I did make it over there once sub 4 hours, but the cost of the ticket was one day’s worth of Blackjack…

TJs in Irvine doesn’t have Asian Pears anymore! waaah! Where did you find yours? Happy Vegas-ing btw!
Nancy says
Ohhhh I do love In N Out…so sad I didn’t get to eat some last month.
Kelsey says
I agree with you on the in and out burger. Five Guys is also overrated (I’m from Kansas).
natalie (the sweets life) says
i’ve never tried in ‘n out when i’ve been on the west coast so i’m kind of curious…but i’ll take your word for it!
have fun in vegas!!!

My husband said we HAVE to stop there the next time we go to Vegas. I’ll have to let him in on the fry-overhype. Since I’m a vegetarian and I gotta be gluten-free, I doubt there’s anything I can even eat there anyway. But I’ve learned it’s a heck of a lot easier to just not eat out. I keep getting “contaminated” when I try to eat somewhere else!
Julie (A Case of the Runs) says
I love In-N-Out’s grilled cheese. It’s a VERY seldom stop for me, though!

As an East Coaster, one of the greatest things about CA seems to be all of the fun places that are within driving distance!

I love road trips! I’m totally jealous 🙂 Hope you have a fantastic time!
Emily says
Agree with the above comment–you MUST order them well done! That makes them so much better! I miss In N’ Out 🙁
Lauren says
Everyone is in Vegas right now!!! (except for me, BOO!!!) Have a blast girl. 🙂
Carabini says
..I wasnt satisfied with the tools in Adobe Photoshop so I made my own.
Stacey (Being Stacey) says
Have a blast!!!
Ida says
i dont get the in-n-out hype either. chick-fil-a needs to make its way west, waffle fries FTW!
Tiffany (Stuffed with Fluff) says
The key to In-N-Out fries is to order them well done! totally crispy and delicious
Jessie says
Totally with you about In ‘n’ Out. Fries are just okay. I find their secret sauce totally repulsive. I don’t eat meat, so I can’t speak for the burgers, but the grilled cheese was very meh. Redeeming factor = Neapolitan milkshakes that are truly outstanding.
lynn @ the actor's diet says
can you believe i live in socal and have yet to go to in n out?!?
my husband said that mad greek has a good veggie burger, fyi! maybe for your ride back?
Jamie@everydaydolce says
I could not agree with you more about the “In and Out” obsession…I don;t like their fries either, it’s good food but you can get so much better! My husband and I are in dire need of a roadtrip to Vegas…we have never been but have lived in SoCal for almost two years! I hope you have a blast 🙂
Sarah B says
In-N-Out! Heck yes! And I’m pretty sure you stopped at the one in my hometown of Hesperia. Nothing but love on this post. Enjoy Vegas 🙂
