I love the Fourth of July! I love the U.S., I love bar-b-ques and I love the summer!!!
Oh, and the fireworks aren’t too shabby either 😉
Plus, I love cooking and I love that I’m now close to family, so I have people to cook for (and I’m not left eating everything myself)! I really want to make something festive for the Fourth!
While I’m impressed with this strategically planned piece of cake…

I want to make something that screams “Easy!”. I mean, “Fun!” right when people see it.
If you’re set on apple pie – you can always make it more patriotic with a flag motif.

But I think I’m going to go with the predictable, yet timeless Flag Cake!!
I’m excited!
Today is a rest day and I have yet to find a KB class around here (boo), so I just took a walk and did 8 min Abs.
Then, it was smoothie time! My recipe is pretty much always the following:
– Ice
– Spinach
– Protien Powder
– Chia seeds
– Xantham Gum
– Water or Almond Milk (depending on what I have)
And now I’m chomping on some watermelon and blubes…
I took Roxy to the groomer for her summer cut. She is going to look like a different dog in an hour!
Questions: What are your plans for the Fourth of July?
What are you going to be eating? Share any must have food ideas!
Me: I think we’re barbequing with family and watching a fireworks show from their backyard. No comment on whether or not this is an “official” show 😉
Additional question: Anyone racing this weekend?
Me: I think my friend Susan and I are doing a local 5K! I have actually only done one other 5K in my life, so they make me nervous!!
There are tons of local races on holidays like this. Look around and I’m sure you can find one within driving distance 🙂

I love fourth of July desserts!!! I ate that flag cake so many 4ths!! Mine never looked as pretty though. 🙂
How did your smoothie make so much?? Was it the ice? My smoothies never come out as big as I would expect. I’ve been eyeing the xanthan gum in my store. Gotta buy it!

I love the classic flag cake on the 4th. It is definitely a must have in the summer. I might just have to make one for our bbq festivities now that you’ve inspired me.

We don’t have any definite plans yet- nothing big anyway. Probably going to grill in my balcony and then take the family to Anaheim GardenWalk to catch Disneyland’s Fireworks from across the street. They always put on a good show.

What’s in the Flag Cake? I love it – it looks so festive!
I’m going to be making grilled veggies, homemade veggie burgers, and – the piece de resistance – a tweaked version of Jessica at How Sweet It Is’ Very Berry Whole Wheat Muffins.

You can’t go wrong with flag cake.
My daughter and I are flying to Florida on the 4th to visit my parents. I don’t anticipate doing any major celebrating. Perhaps we’ll go watch the fireworks? I’m not really sure yet.

That layer cake looks so good! I’m with you on easy recipes though.
No big plans for me this weekend, but have fun and good luck if you end up running the 5K.

No plans so far to do anything. We’ve done something different pretty much every year, so I’m not surprised!

Wow I just got excited. I have that same brand of Xantham Gum in my grocery store! That cake looks sooo good. I celebrated Canada day with homemade biscuits and strawberry shortcake.

I’m going out to the NC coast to visit my soon-to-be in-laws. I see crab cakes in my future. I’ll be sure to post the fabulous eats that occur at the Davis house. 🙂
