I’m sharing how I stay active as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #StayfreeSisters and Stayfree® pads
Hello! Today we’re talking about girl stuff so if you aren’t into that sorta thing you’ve been warned.
Recently Stayfree® reached out to me to share some ways I stay active throughout the month. While this isn’t my favorite topic or rather time of month, I get a lot of questions about this from readers. Depending on how it hits ya, ‘TOM’ can make it hard to run or stay active.
Stayfree® Ultra Thin® Pads: Feature Thermo Control® Technology to wick away moisture and flexible layers that move with your body to keep you dry and comfortable.
Stayfree® Overnight Pads are designed to protect you from overnight leaks, no matter which way you toss and turn. – You get maximum protection with NIGHT-GUARD® Zone – it blocks leaks in all directions, leaving you feeling comfortable and dry throughout the night.
Here are some ways I keep going when I want to stop, drop and eat chocolate.
Walk it out
I know TOM can make you more tired than usual… but I actually just accept and embrace that a bit. If I feel sleepy or sluggish I just try to get to bed earlier. It’s not rocket science, but it is important self-care.
But, I don’t slack off completely, I make it a point to exercise – I’m just open to changing it up a bit. I really feel like this helps make me feel better physically and emotionally.
Today I took a walk with my favorite SkinnyRunner and her lil puppy. The weather is perfection and catching up with her put me in the best mood (read: having her listen to me vent about life, liberty and the pursuit).
Eating Healthy or at least 80/20
This isn’t relegated to certain times – I ALWAYS eat what I’m craving. Today I was craving my easy peanut sauce. Delicious!
I used my Easy Peanut Sauce Recipe and put it on whole wheat pasta and turkey meatballs.
Plus cereal. Makes me happy.
Be Prepared
Stretch and Zen Out
And really the most ‘feel good’ exercise after running for me is yoga.
Vegas too I guess…
It’s a challenge to get to into a yoga class, but I enjoy a good stretch at home. And my IT band super super enjoys it! #runnerproblems
If that’s your thing too I have a cool deal for ya…

Question: Yoga – at home or in the studio?
Did you have what you were craving for dinner? What did you have??
Sarah Tomorrow says
I find doing yoga is the most rewarding exercise when it comes to my periods.
Jojo @ Run Fast Eat Lots says
I usually practice yoga in a studio, but sometimes do it at home to stretch and wind down
Sue says
Studio although I missed yesterday’s class on account of work 🙁
Liz@NovelRunner says
I do yoga at home every night. I think a lot of runners like a solitary practice because, if you like to run alone, chances are you like to yoga alone too! I think you make a great point about being active during TOM – I always feel like DEATH but, for some reason, that’s when my body is able to run super fast and it’s 100% always when I set PRs (probably because I also turn into a madwoman). Weird, but also kind of cool that there’s a silver lining to feeling like crap.
Livi @ Eat, Pra,y Work It Out says
I had bacon on my salad tonight– definitely what I was craving!
Alisha @ Real Girl Running says
I have never been able to get into yoga. I’ve given it a try a few times, and it never sticks. Saying that, I know it is a great way to stretch, and I should do more of it!
What I wanted for dinner was whatever was quickest and easiest = leftovers. Done and done.
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan says
Yoga – if I do it at all, is done at home. I haven’t been to a yoga studio since college…which is becoming a frighteningly long time ago.
Dinner tonight was roasted broccoli, baked sweet potato and steak. Considering I wanted ice cream, I thought that was a good compromise. 😉

BIKRAM YOGA!! At least twice a week. As far as I’m concerned, it’s the best muscle stretch and recovery for a runner. Doesn’t hurt it burns 900 calories in 90 min. Sweat it out sisters!! Everyone should try it at least once.
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job says
I had oatmeal for dinner. Womp womp.
I know I need to go to yoga, but I can’t make myself. Im going to embrace that until something snaps or breaks and Ill remember that I need to work on that flexibility.
Nona @ RunningHigh says
I’m hardly ever able to make it to a yoga class, so I usually do it in my living room! And whenever TOM hits, I make it a point to stick to my regular exercise schedule. Not usually makes me feel better and less ragey!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
I definitely prefer yoga in the studio setting and try to do it at least once a week.
Shannon in Tustin says
I usually don’t get to indulge in a craving for dinner, it’s about feeding the masses and I try to stick to the meal plan for the week. If I did eat what I was craving, it would be pizza and wine! 🙂
sally @ sweat out the small stuff says
I have tried to do yoga at home but I can’t see the tv and do the poses at the same time so i tend to sit on the couch and just watch. It’s not doing me any good that way. LOL!
Last night I had dinner at my parents house. She made chicken but it didn’t seem cooked enough. So I waited for dessert….ICE CREAM CAKE! All was made right =)
kristin | W [H] A T C H says
i so need more yoga in my life.
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
I do online yoga at home! I love real classes but I don’t have access to a gym that offers them and I don’t want to shell out money for a real yoga studio haha
Becky@TheSavedRunner says
I always do yoga online because I can rarely make the classes at my gym and I”m too cheap to pay for a yoga studio. 🙂
