Green Sludge

Breakfast this morning was a major fail. I made a green smoothie with chocolate protein powder, chia, maca, ice, 1/2 frozen naner, xantham gum and water. For some reason it was the grossest consistency.green sludge bowl

I tried to get a picture of it on a spoon, but it was difficult to capture the pond scum-like essence of this bowl. When I shook the bowl it jiggled like muddy  old jello. Gross, very gross.

I topped it with my new Special K granola. I’ve been wanting to try this since it came out and finally decided to go for it. I like it 🙂Special K granola

I think I may hit up KB this morning, but the gloomy weather makes me want to stay home and catch up on work. Hmmmm…

Sorry to anyone who emailed me last week. Since I was in Orlando I pretty much disconnected from email and am super behind. I will get back to you today 🙂

      Mine get like that when I add too much xantham gum…maybe try less next time??

      I’m guessing the nasty texture was due to the combination of chia seeds and xanthum gum. I use 1 T. of chia seeds in my smoothie and it doesn’t bother me, but you have to make sure you balance it out with the other ingredients – I think a lot of ice/frozen fruit helps to cover up the weird chia seed texture! And you really need to use xanthum gum very sparingly or it will get all gelly and weird…. as you can guess, I learned this the hard way 😉

      The sludgy consistency could be from the chia seeds. They usually seem to have a gel-like texture.

      Eeeew pond scum? I’ve yet to try a Green Monster but “pond scum” doesn’t sound too appealing!
