I don’t know why, but I had the out-of-the-blue idea to make fondue for dinner last night. It’s super random because:
a.) I’m not a huge fondue person (only been once at a restaurant)
b.) I don’t have the proper pans or tools to make it
c.) I had no idea how to make fondue
d.) I’m lactose intolerant … just kidding, but that would have been the worst.
Anyway.
I was walking around the grocery store and decided “Tonight is fondue night!”. This is my random life and I just had to roll with it because I was suddenly on a mission.
I quickly looked up an easy fondue recipe on my phone and Mission:Fondue began.
I don’t have a fondue pot or long forks or any prior knowledge of fondue etiquette – but I made it work.
To make it more interesting I didn’t have all the ingredients the recipe required, but I didn’t want to buy mustard powder just for this. I ended up using low fat dairy cheese and milk in this fondue so I’m sure it’s a littler lower in calories than the usual stuff. Luckily it’s still super delicious.
Easy Fondue Recipe
Into a pan went:
- 1.5 cups low-fat milk
- dollop of mustard (start w/ 2Tb and add to taste)
- garlic powder & pepper (a lot)
- soy sauce OR Bragg’s liquid aminos (start w/ 1Tb and add to taste)
- bring to just under a boil -> add 12 oz. of shredded cheese -> stir
Stir until it’s all incorporated and thickens. I kept stirring the whole time so it didn’t get lumpy or weird.
I served my first diy fondue with a fancy salad just like they do at The Melting Pot.
And because I don’t have a fondue pot / set / whatever-you-call-it I put the pot of cheese in a bigger pot of HOT water. I’m not fancy (obviously but it still tasted amazing!
I used all gluten free dippers – rice crackers, gluten free rolls, gluten free bagel thins (not great), cauliflower…
It was so good! Make it and impress your friends (ideally with a proper fondue set so the presentation is on point).
Try it and let me know if you love it / hate it / impressed a date / got your cat to love you more by buying their love with cheese…
Yes, I know cats can’t eat cheese ( or at least someone just told me that). But Vegas isn’t a cat, he’s a tiny tiger in a cat’s body. And tigers think cheese is GGGGRREAT!

My cat eats cheese every day with his pills. He loves it! Not sure if it’s good for him or not but the vet doesn’t seem to care.
Have fun in Israel!

So easy and looks SOOOOOO yummy!!!!
If using an aged cheese, like Cabot cheddars, and a lactose free dairy product like Fairlife even those with lactose intolerance can enjoy this!

I once tried to make fondue for valentines day and picked an authentic recipe. It worked but the cheese was so funky… (and I’m not a big cheese person). Stupid on my part. But yours looks yummy and I’m sure a cheddar blend or italian cheese blend would be tasty!
And cats can totally eat cheese! Mine love it…of course they’d pick the turkey off your sandwich first but they love cheese too.

Whoever told you cats can’t eat cheese obviously doesn’t have a cat!
Your fondue looks great. I thought fondue would be difficult to do at home without all the gizmos, but you made it work!

That recipe is super easy and I am a mad lover of cheese over here so I will have to try making it for friends. My weekend consisted of running with a pal, cleaning, reading, few walks with my dog and preparing for daylights savings by early to bed on Saturday (do not want to mess up my current early run schedule i have going on for my half marathon. Today I plan on breaking out the bike for the first time this year and a friend is coming to visit. Probably one of the best weekends I have had in a long time.

Fondue….I made chocolate fondue once and served it in a crockpot with all kinds of fruits and sweet delicious things. It’s pretty easy to make and a great party item. Cheese fondue sounds amazing, but no one in my family would eat it, so I probably won’t do it.
This weekend we painted my bedroom (love, love, love it), I’m doing laundry, meal prep and recovering from the clocks going forward. I’m hoping to get a bike ride in this afternoon. Turkey spinach meatballs are in order for meal prep.
