Hello! How’s it going? Over here it’s going well. I was pretty productive with blog stuff AND I went to a strength class at the gym. I’m still sore from the marathon this weekend (mostly because it was downhill because this NEVER happens). So, I could have totally made an excuse not to go. It’s a class that’s normally pretty heavy on lunges and squats. I’m sore. And tired. And I have a pimple (or three).
But I decided I wanted to get back on track with my workout routine and that meant I had to hit up the class. I knew I wouldn’t be able to give 100% in terms of form for lunges and stuff. But I showed up and gave what I had today. Today that meant modifications and shallow squats and that’s okay.
After the gym I hit up the local health foods store to get some thyroid supplements. I’ve been super tired lately and think I need to get back on some holistic options to give it a lil wake up.
Since I was coming from the gym I was hungry / always buy something to eat on the way home because I live 3 minutes away and can’t wait that long to eat. So I got some kiwis and ate ‘em apple style.
In a stroke of tea loving luck I saw that the Celestial Seasonings Holiday teas are on sale!! I LOVE them. La-la-love. I’ve been obsessed with their tea, especially the holiday ones for years and try to stock up when it’s on sale or in season. (Last year I was invited to visit their headquarters and drank myself into a happy tea coma.)
Check out my tea shelf (there’s also some Spark and O2 Gold but 98% tea).
Okay, now let’s talk about reason number 218 why Monican is a complete weirdo….
I love chocolate. I love dark chocolate. I love chocolate covered nuts. But usually I don’t love most super fancy chocolates that come in a box or chocolate covered caramel or mints or the like. So I am an expert at eating the chocolate off chocolate covered candy…
See?
I can do this with See’s Candy, chocolate covered blue berries, almonds… anything. Is that good or weird?
To change the subject away from my weird chocolate obsession…
My friend Bobbi is doing a Holiday Shred Workout Challenge – check it out if you need a little extra support, meal plans and workouts this month!

James @ HalfMarathonJames says
I’ll have to look into those thyroid supplements you write about. I’ve been struggling with my energy levels lately, and I don’t know what it is.. Good work on the strength exercises, I don’t think I could do them after running a marathon.. 🙂

I like chocolate plain or covering most things (no bugs, please!) Maybe it’s a California thing, but See’s beats pretty much all other fancy chocolate IMHO. 🙂
Today was the second of three boot camps this week, looking forward to tomorrow’s class (but still not a fan of burpees!)
Karen says
Today was a good day! I found time for a run so I got my steps/ miles in much faster. My goal for week is 5 miles a day, using my fitbit to help me track. Monday was a terrible day at work so I just couldn’t recover in evening and catch up. But rest of week I’m right in target
Hillary says
taught two classes and my last run before the half. goal met!
Amy Ramos says
Mmmmm. ..chocolate.

Cheri @ Overactive Blogger says
Good for you for getting your run in! I am looking to take off just a couple of pounds. I’m like a solid block of muscle these days, but I feel like I’m overeating, so yay for you for sticking to your plan to workout even though you were sore!
Alisa says
Didn’t make it to the gym today 🙁 definitely going to regroup in the morning. BUT I did eat 100% clean today

Tara B says

lindsey says
3.13 early morning miles – I am really enjoying the motivation from this group 🙂 I am deep in the taper crazies…so I will need to set up some new goals for the coming weeks before my next training plan starts!
Sassypants says
I have to take it easy for the next 4 days, so my workout was a 3 mile walk this morning.
sam says
HIIT treadmill workout + back and bis with dumb bells!!
Donna says
Walked 2.25 miles today, for a total of 5.75 miles for the week. I have a 6.5 mile ride scheduled later today. As far as chocolate goes, by itself, on something, or near something are all acceptable. I also eat the chocolate off of chocolate-covered things, but then I eat the non-chocolate thing too – for example, I nibble the chocolate off of Mounds bars but then eat the coconut afterward. Weird, but oh well.
Amy says
I ran six miles this morning and walked three this afternoon. I am piling on the miles!
Patty says
4 miles. Not very fast but I got er done.
megan w. says
love chocolate! baked brownies this morning for a friend who just had a baby and added some of our abundance of Halloween candy… I may have sampled some as I was cutting them up.
Ran 3.5ish this morning, and then the cardio fix workout with the hubby!
Alison Z says
It is rainy and so cold in New England right now! But, I’m not going to let that get in the way of my second out of three workouts this week.
Caryn says
POTM: 2 quick miles for me today.
As for the chocolate debate – I like chocolate covered things, but not chocolate covered nuts. I would have been all over those mint filled penguins!
Melody says
Anyone have any results from O2 gold? I’ve just ordered it and am hoping it helps my workouts!
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan says
Dark chocolate with sea salt is the best!
I have great plans to pile on some miles just as soon as my lunch is digested.
Melanie says
I did 5 miles today and Thursday and Friday are rest days. I love chocolate period but I draw the line with chocolate and raisins. Otherwise I’m game!
Kristen says
got in 7 trail miles doing speed work today.
Chummy_Chum says
Today was upper body. So, I did a 1 mile warm up, 10 minute abs and polished it off w/ 21 Day – Upper Fix. Have a good day!

Tasha says
Planning on doing an upper body work out and stretching after work.

Strength day!
AdjustedReality says
Love GOOD chocolate or chocolate covered stuff, but life’s too short for waxy crappy chocolate. 🙂 Planning on either 8 easy miles or 6 miles of speedwork tonight, depending on how life goes.
Lizzy says
I felt pretty beat up yesterday so my scheduled run just turned into a second dog walk. I’m hoping to get back on track today with a short run and my pup-to-5k with my dog.
Cocomama says
Just finished my 2nd of 3 runs this week! Almost didn’t happen but then I wouldn’t have been able to check in so I had to do it. Next run is Saturday but maybe I’ll squeeze in a mile or two before then just so I can be a lil Extra.
jen says
day 3/5 days of working out completed! taught a bodypump class this morning.
Melissa says
Yippy! Really liking this challenge – got in 3.5 miles this morning and just snuck in another 2 at lunch. I’m becoming addicted to reaching my goal.
Annemarie D-Chi says
8 miles today 🙂 Getting chilly up in here… but I refuse to complain since the summer was ridic hot. Have a great day!
AmyW says
I ran 5 miles this morning, doing the Big Hill this time.
Chocolate and other caffeine-filled things are not really my friend anymore, unfortunately. I do let myself have little bits of caffeinated coffee or chocolate now and then. With the chocolate, I eat the whole thing, no eating around stuff. Except for peanut butter cups. Sometimes I eat the chocolate all around and save the peanut butter for last.
Stephanie Consiglio says
I’m not much of a sweet person but I love chocolate especially the fruit dark chocolate ones by brookside. I just had a bag of the goji and pomegranate ones in my fridge, so bomb! Anyways Monday I ran 3 easy miles and yesterday I ran 6.5 miles total with 2 miles of that being 7 hill repeats and rest jog.
julie says
POTM Wednesday Check in – I’m about to do some weight training (at home with a DVD) and will run this afternoon. I ran last night also, which was another 4 miles, and my 4th straight day running! I have an unexpected run streak going on! 🙂
Karen says
I got 4 miles in this morning and 20 minutes with weights. So far this week I’ve also been exceeding my 10,000 step goal!
Richard says
Please tell us more about the thyroid supplements. Tiredness and suggestions to address (other than more sleep) could be a standalone blog post as this is something we all face, particularly with all the training.
Rachael @ Catch Me if You Can says
i love celestial sugar cookie sleigh ride so delicious!!! so i feel a little like arthur weasley when i ask this but…what exactly is the purpose of eating the chocolate off a candy? its not weird, just unique 🙂
Shannon in Tustin says
Chocolate any way you slice it, cover it or disguise it is A-OK with me. I wouldn’t eat the chocolate off of any item, though. Slightly weird but hey that’s what makes the world interesting. But doing that with See’s candy is a plain ‘ol sin! No one messes with Mrs. See’s fine chocolates. Just pass those over to me and you can deface some rando chocolate item. 🙂
Hope your legs are feeling better.
Abby says
I actually made it to a yoga class! And I’ve hit 20 miles for the week so far! Woohoo!
Laura z says
I made my goal (10000 steps) the last two days, but just barely. I’m hoping to step it up the next few days…
Marissa @ Run Riss Run says
Pile on the Miles: 4 today
I prefer just plain ‘ol dark chocolate.
Wendy says
I have to be in the mood for chocolate. I am more of a gummy fan 🙂
We did a killer crossfit workout last night. Tonight I’m meeting my personal trainer for some strength training. I’m kind of feeling like chest and back would be a good workout today.
Sierra says
Rest day!
Kristie says
Today was shoulders and abs…also, dark chocolate anything!!! Yum!
Louise says
Walked 2.5 miles this morning, wahoo!
Hannah @ Will Run For Coffee says
Today is a non-running day, but I’ll cycle 15 miles to/from work. I’ll be up bright and early tomorrow to run to work!
Chocolate in any which form it fancies coming my way.
Georgina says
November Project this morning! Lots of stair running, wall sits, planks, and bear crawls. Fun as always!
Mary says
20 miles this morning on the bike! Plus 18 a piece yesterday and the day before, so 56 bike miles so far this week!
Carla says
Yoga this morning.
Courtney says
3 mile run today!
Amanda says
Chocolate of all kinds is the best! But mostly I love a good semi-sweet dark chocolate.
Did 3 miles yesterday and today will be 30 minutes on the elliptical
Melissa @girlchasingpavement says
My first marathon was the Steamtown Marathon in Pennsylvania and I absolutely loved it. But it also, was a net downhill course. It KILLED my quads for quite some time. Pile on the miles has been great. I was tempted to skip my run last night after I put my daughter to bed because it was late and rainy, but I got my but to the gym and that is what counts! Have a great day!
Lauren says
I will eat chocolate in any way, shape, or form…JUST GIVE IT TO ME!
POTM: 7 miles this morning on the treadmill with some random sprints in there. Followed by arm weights. On track for this week’s goal of 45 miles.
Kaitlin says
POTM check in: 4 mile run today! I definitely need to foam roll today because my calves are tight..
tiffany j says
chocolate covered pretzels are my jam! today is a rest day – with a few walks thrown in because I am still sore from my Saturday class.
Eileen says
I ran 4 miles this morning! 2 away from my weekly goal.
Mom#to#crazy3 says
Ready for 3+ miles today.
Elizabeth H. says
I’m allergic to dairy, so I can’t eat most chocolate…but I love all the chocolate that I can eat! POTM check-in: 3 runs this week, 12.8 miles so far!
Katie says
Yesterday was sort of a rest day where I just walked a few miles.
I prefer my chocolate plain, slightly soft, and milky – like a Cadbury bar from England. But I’m definitely not going to say no to a chocolate covered caramel (or any other chocolate, usually)!
Jen says
I love chocolate with anything crunchy/salty! I finished yesterday with a 3 mile run…that makes 6 for the week so far. This morning I took another boot camp class that included running with weights…so I guess make that 7 miles for the week 🙂
Marie at the Lazy W says
I love chocolate-covered almonds but not peanutbutter with chocolate, at all. My friends think I’m weird for that. More Reece’s for them I guess. :-))
Kudos to you for doing a strength class while still sore from your race, wow!
POTM check in: Hubby is off work today so I planned an active rest day, maybe some yoga later. Long run tomorrow.
Ann says
Any chocolate! Alone or blanketing anything else! Love dark, milk or white! Such an obsession! Those penguins look AMAZING! YUM!
Sally @ sweat out the small stuff says
Peanut m and ms are my favorite chocolate covered option. But mostly I like my chocolate straight up. Dark and pure 🙂
