Run Eat Repeat

Laguna Beach Wine Tasting

Today was so much fun! Normally I avoid any and all social activity on Saturdays because I like to sit on the couch with a bucket of food after a long run (do you blame me?). But, today Ben and I decided to get out and see what goes on in the real world on the weekends.IMG_8520 (800x600)

I may not be a rocket scientist, but I’m pretty much a genius for stocking up on lunch when I hit up Whole Foods this morning. Sure all my grocery budget for the week is gone, but I ate like a king queen today!IMG_8511 (600x800)

My brother and I each bought a Groupon a while back and have been talking about using them for a long time. Today was finally the day where it worked out.

It was for wine tasting at Laguna Canyon Winery in Laguna Beach. laguna canyon winery

We usually take the freeway to Laguna Beach, but today we took streets. I didn’t realize it’s only 8 miles away. I feel significantly cooler given my former obsession with Laguna Beach  and the fact that the place is so fancy! I mean, their fire hydrants are covered in gold!!!gold fire hydrant

The Groupon included 5 tastings for 2 people, 2 wine glasses and a bottle of wine.IMG_8517 (600x800) I kinda thought the “LC” on the glasses was fitting.IMG_8522 (600x800)

Our wine drinking companions – Heather and Michael (my brother)IMG_8524 (600x800)

After the tasting we walked around Laguna Beach near this Laguna Beach hotel. Seriously, this place is gorgeous. I didn’t have my SLR so I can’t do the view justice.IMG_8532 (800x600)IMG_8530 (800x600)

By this time we were HUNGRY!!! Unfortunately, those views are expensive and most of the restaurants were super expensive too.

We quickly “Yelped” a place (yes Yelp is a verb) and found Taco Loco. IMG_8537 (800x600)

It was a tiny Mexican grab and go kinda place.IMG_8533 (800x600)

Yeah, it was not good. I got the fish salad with beans. It had maybe 3 tiny bites of fish. And it was 12 bucks, plus extra because I wanted beans.IMG_8539 (800x600)

Even for a “cheap” place it ended up costing almost 30 bucks for two people. There’s a novelty factor because they offer tofu and mushroom tacos, but no one’s food was very good. IMG_8542 (800x600)

We parted ways with my brother and his girlfriend for our second event of the evening. Remember in June when Ben was in his friend’s wedding? monica and ben at wedding

Well, those friends (Dan and Jen) are in town because both of their fams are from Orange County! We met up for Yogurtland of course. I piled mine high because that’s how I roll!IMG_8546 (600x800)

Actually it’s almost 11pm and I’m feeling a little hungry. That 20 miler caught up with me today! See ya tomorrow.

Love that picture of Ben. He looks like he is about to ask someone for some Grey Poupon.

I hate overpriced food. Especially when it’s something you KNOW you can make at home. I want restaurant food to be something I can’t make myself or would never actually take the time to make for myself.

What a fun Saturday! Yelp is my restaurant bible but it sucks when it steers you wrong. At least you finished up the day on a positive note with yummy Yogurtland!

I didn’t know Laguna had a winery. Sorry about the bad salad. I went to Wahoos at the Spectrum and had their chopped salad with fish…you must try it. Super good..

Laguna Beach is beautiful! I went years ago and don’t remember much but I attribute my “Hills” addiction to keeping me in the loop 😛 Ironically, one of my best girlfriends was roommate with one of the girls from the show little sister! Small world…

Ah that’s crazy, my husband and I just ate at Taco Loco last night! It was decent, but overpriced. We love hanging out in that part of Laguna! 🙂
