Run Eat Repeat

National Running Day and National Donut Day Are This Week

Running· What Runners Eat

1 Jun

This is the best week ever! Do you know why? National Running Day is June 3rd and National Donut Day is June 5th!!! I am 1000% running to go get donuts both of those days. Maybe on the 4th too for good measure.  I love donuts. And running. And running to get donuts. So I have my donut eatin’ pants on and I’m ready to go!

So, I’m home! I was sad to leave the cruise ship and Alaska and my mom (mostly because she always would go fill my water bottle at the end of the day). But I am glad to be home for a bit (I have more travel scheduled soon). I really love traveling, but I don’t like the actual transportation part of it – like the taxis and airplanes and security and all of that jazz. So I make it better with treats Winking smile

When I got home I didn’t do much to be productive. But I did listen to another Serial episode. Love.

And my kitchen is pretty bare so I was very lucky to get home to a bunch of treats from CVS.

This morning I went for a run – I missed my running path!

running at home again (450x800)

I am still on a big oatmeal kick from the trip. This was not as good at the oatmeal and all the delicious toppings that I had at the breakfast buffet everyday last week.

Vegetarian June Challenge

I’ve decided to aim to eat vegetarian in June.

I want to get back to a plant based diet with some animal protein thrown in for support. But, I’ve really gotten away from that. I realized I used to be  much more aware of what I was eating when I was vegetarian – I was so much better about reading nutrition labels and keeping a balanced diet. Now I’m just sloppy.  I don’t intend to be veggie forever (if it happens it happens I don’t really care either way and just want to eat what’s best for MY body) but I need to make some kind of conscious change for a while to get me back in the practice of better awareness of what I’m putting in my body.

I was vegetarian for years in college, but one day realized the vegetarian options at some of the restaurants I was going to were NOT the healthiest choices so I stopped being veg. And it was great until I’ve recently realized my less than stellar diet. I’m not re-hiring the food police to come into my life, I just want to eat food, not too much, mostly plants. (- from Food Rules by Michael Pollen)

(Note:  I have a Blue Apron delivery coming in a few weeks that includes shrimp so I’ll make an allowance for that since I already scheduled it. I already have a no red meat/pork menu with them so this isn’t a big deal for me.)

I’m blabbing on about this just to say I had a bean packed salad and hummus for lunch… with extra Sriracha because it was the only one thing I couldn’t get on the cruise ship.

i love sriracha

I’m probably looking forward to National Running Day more so that I can then enjoy Doughnut Day!

      Welcome back from your trip!

Love oatmeal on vacations–so many different toppings and for some reason it just tastes better than at home :). Those pants are hilarious/amazing!!

      Welcome back Monica!
I’ll pick running for the moment; haven’t had much of a craving for donuts lately (strange but true!).

I love the airport/airplanes part of traveling. You’re telling me I’m basically unavailable to the outside world and can sit and read for hours? Yes! Flight delay? No problem (unless it really is). Need to circle the airport? All right!

welcome home! I have been reading your intuition book and I boy oh boy I have a long way to go, I find I eat all the time…esp when full. I have been trying to be more mindful, and I still have all sorts of “can’t eat foods” in my head.

Hi Monica!! How is it to be home? I always love it and then am affronted by all the chores I neglected… whoops…
NATIONAL DOUGHNUT DAY!!! Maybe I’ll be nice and bring in doughnuts for people at work! Or use it as an excuse to finally buy a doughnut maker. so many options!
thanks for the post about going vegetarian! It is always so nice to hear explanations for people’s decisions because reading through an explanation helps me to question and maybe improve my own life stuff. And it’s also interesting! I personally am considering going vegetarian for a month or something so as to spend less money on groceries. Beans are REALLY cheap and even tofu is a lot cheaper than meats! I’m definitely considering it and will be curious to hear about your experiences.

Once you finish Serial, check out Undisclosed. More information from lawyer-y types. First episode has some pretty terrible audio but it gets better in subsequent episodes.
