Hello! I’m back in California! I missed it here and I missed Vegas a lil bit too.
I had a doctor’s appointment this morning so I was up for a few miles first thing. Then, I attacked the fridge and got ready for my appointment.
I had a blood test two weeks ago and went over the results with my doctor today. My iron was on the low side, but not actually out of range.
The whole point of the test was to check my thyroid. Turns out in the past it was just my T3 that was low and now my T4 is too. Boo.
Bah. So now I’m going to try a prescription to get it up (like Viagra for my thyroid). I am also going to research how to get it in check with nutrition and magic and supplements. I know a lot of you out there have thyroid issues too so once I figure it out a little more I’ll share.
Also – it’s always funny when the nurse thinks I’m dying because my blood pressure or pulse is so low because it’s not like you see me and think ‘runner’.
Now it’s Confession Time!
Confession…
1. I am a Snack Hyena.
Last night when I got home from Florida I was super hungry and tired. The combination is dangerous.
Luckily I had a box of deliciousness from Nourish Snacks! I immediately ripped it open like a starving hyena and ate four bags.
Seriously, these things are amazing, portion-controlled and healthy. There’s salty snacks like half popped popcorn (loved it) and sweet ones like chocolate almond granola clusters.
The also have a Chocolate Collection that sounds pretty epic. {Confession 1.5. I tried all those flavors already. }
2. I have a drinking problem.
Apparently, I can’t get water into my mouth… and this happened as I was about to walk out of the door today.
3. I did Jello Shots at Costco.
Except they ended up just being strawberries with whipped cream. Either way, I’ll take it.
4. I say the most random things VERY LOUDLY. Today someone called me ‘the female Tracy Jordan’ after I said something super weird. Ha! I’ll take it as a compliment?
Basically me.
5. I’m addicted to Groupon. I’ll buy anything from Groupon. Anything from vacations to bug repellant. At this point all the deals are piling up and I need to use them!

I am curious what supplements you are taking for your thyroid, energy or whatever. I also am on armor thyroid and have lost some weight but not enough. It is so frustrating because if I exercise too much I feel like I need to sleep for days and if I don’t exercise enough to sleep for days, I don’t lose weight. I wish there was a magic supplement that could fix it all!

I have similar thyroid issues. I tried treating without drugs via diet and supplements and levels didn’t change significantly. then my doctor put me on synthroid. When he wanted to up the dose, I went to an endocrinologist for a second opinion. She took me completely off of it based on a wider range of blood tests and the fact that my levels were low technically but not a lot of other symptoms were present. I am now also reading about optimal levels vs the traditional ranges that define normal and looking for a holistic doctor for more help. Good luck!

I confess that I totally ate ice cream last night for the first time in MONTHS…. It was a DQ brownie batter something or other. It was completely delicious—but it gave me a CRAZY sugar high. Yowza. And it was only a small!

i had thyroid cancer. Diagnosed, surgery for complete thyroid removal, cancer treatment… 20 yrs ago this November. I have been on synthroid since. Advice… Don’t take at same time with calcium or iron of any sort. It affects absorption.
It’s all good.

I was on synthroid for months and still had all my hypo thyroid symptoms. I’ve been on armour thyroid bc my body struggles with t3 conversion and its night and day difference! You might ask about Armour or NT treatment.
Sarah says
I’m not sure if you covered this in an old post, but can you talk a little more about how you first came to discover you were having thyroid problems?
I hope everything is going well otherwise! And PS, my cat and Vegas are seriously twins! 🙂

I also have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, and take levothyroxine. Amazing the difference in energy level after starting the supplementation about 3 years ago. My dose has steadily increased over the years. I am curious (if you don’t mind sharing) what your T4 number was?

I recently scored a bunch of local deals on Groupon, I love it too.
I think you look amazing, I don’t know why they wouldn’t think you are a runner.
Meghan @ GetOffYourButtAndRun says
Groupon is dangerous. I’ve once butt-bought 4 pounds of chia seeds. Seriously. My sister has some major thyroid issues. I hope the new meds help you!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
Well the thing is, once you’re signed up for Groupon with your credit card information, it’s too darn easy to make additional purchases with the click of a button. I feel ya!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
Hope you get your thyroid figured out! I know that’s got to be so frustrating! I’m sure it will all work out 🙂 My dad is actually a chiropractor and I always hear him talking about giving his patients certain supplements to help with thyroid issues…wish I could think what they were!
Lora @ Crazy Running Girl says
Hope you get your thyroid issues figured out!
I am also a super loud talker and it drives my husband nuts. He’s always asking me why I’m talking so loud and I’m always like… I am? This sounds normal. Ha.

I have no issue taking thyroid meds, it’s not like they’re steroids or painkillers or something. Ive taken nearly a full replacement dose of synthroid + cytomel for 16 years or so. You might suggest a small dose of cytomel for the T3 replacement. I take 137 MCG synthroid + 5 MCG cytomel. Magical formula! Changed my life.

Sigh…. I’m sorry your back in Cali and not still in FLA with Ben. I know it’s “complicated.” Hoping things will be uncomplicated for you two soon!
Liz@NovelRunner says
I’m sorry to hear about your thyroid and I hope you figure out out soon! I can completely relate to the low blood pressure thing. I’m also trying to increase my dietary iron. I was super stoked to find that Frosted Mini Wheats have 90% of your RDA of iron in just one serving. I’ve been eating them every day for a few weeks and I do feel a noticeable improvement in my mood and energy!
sally @ sweat out the small stuff says
confession….i don’t do my physical therapy exercises for my rotator cuff all week like i’m supposed to. But I do them at the physical therapy appointment. I guess when you pay $60 a visit (that’s my astronomical copay!) you do what you’re told.

I shop every day, no literally, every. single. day. And I’m not even sorry about it.
anne says
I think you meant to say, Tracy Morgan??
Not Jordan 😉
runeatrepeat says
I might mean both… I think his character on 30 Rock is Morgan?
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job says
I’ve been eating this local granola lately (Jessica’s) and I keep buying the chocolate chip kind and then eating half the bag. I think I have a problem.
Bummer about your thyroid but at least there’s a solution. Hope all goes well!
Sheena says
Ugh, I’m the same with Groupon! I’ve been eyeballing the Getaways for the last month, trying to decide where to go for my 30th birthday trip in August and I just can’t decide!
Erica { EricaDHouse.com } says
I was diagnosed with Hashimotos 3 years ago and thankfully synthroid has managed to get my thyroid back in normal range ever since (even now that I’m pregnant!) Once I’m done having kids I’m going to look into treating my thyroid disorder naturally so I don’t have to be on synthroid the rest of my life.
runeatrepeat says
That is really good – I’ve heard that having thyroid issues can make it difficult to even get pregnant too. Hoping this helps me get it together energy and lab test wise…
