Hello! Happy weekend fun time! Anything exciting going on?
Over here the only excitement is my cat attacking me…
And then ignoring me…
No one cares…
I think I’ve mentioned this before but when I first started running I would only run on a treadmill. I first used my Grams’ treadmill in her patio. Then, I was using it so often I decided to gather up all my money from my job at Starbucks and buy one for myself.
I had a treadmill in my bedroom throughout college. I ran about 5 days a week on it and really really fell in love with running.
But, I was scared to run outside because I thought I’d look like a weirdo or too jiggly or chubby or awkward.
When my friend Adriel talked me into running my first race (a 10k) I realized I was going to have to actually run in public. Outside. For people to see.
Ugh.
So, before I agreed I actually made myself run outside ONE TIME to make sure I could actually do it.
I was nervous that people would… I don’t know what actually!? I was just soooo self-conscious.
The reality is… NO ONE CARES. Well, except me.
No one cares if I run awkwardly or am jiggly or stop to walk or whatever.
And that takes me to the latest thing I’m hoping no one cares about…
my new weirdo hat. Ha!
I bought this big brim visor on Amazon the other day. I really wanted a wider one, not a straight out long one. So this is a little odd. But I hope no one cares that this strange bird is running down the street.
Moral of the story: Don’t let what strangers think affect you living your life and doing things that are good for you.
On the other hand, if your mom cares – maybe listen a little
Lunch! I scored a great manager’s special organic salad and made my salad right in there.
I just realized that I forgot to do my favorite Run Eat and Repeat from July!

Thank you so much for this post! I feel like experienced runners must just shake their heads at my huffing & puffing slow self. I try to run during times that aren’t busy or inside, but it has been nice getting outside. Plus I just got a Garmin and it has been kind of fun to use.

Yesterday evening’s yoga where I was totally focused on the here and now for the entire session. How did your weekend go?

I used to be sooo self-conscious of what people thought of me at the gym. I would tell my trainer that I couldn’t do something out in the open area because I saw someone I knew and didn’t want them to see me. I’ve kind of gotten over it, but that self-consciousness is hard to get over. You are right though, NO ONE cares!!! BEST workout this week was a 30+ mile bike ride on Wednesday night with the bike club I ride with. We had a great warm-up climbing first half, followed by a relatively easy ride back to the shop. Ended the night drinking beers in the parking lot, which totally made it worth the ride. BEST night of the season. I didn’t eat anything amazing or tasty or worth writing about. We went away to a wedding in Erie, PA, this weekend and I had a very difficult time eating enough protein. Stopped at the market yesterday and picked up some grape tomatoes cottage cheese. For lunch on the 7 1/2 hour ride home, I ate the cottage cheese and tomatoes, so I got in 26 grams of protein on the road. Just about impossible when your only option is McDonald’s or Tim Horton’s.

My favorite workout was definitely in the pool this week. It’s been super hot! I ran laps in the pool and then did strength exercises, which is surprisingly exhausting and effective.
My favorite food was the new Eggos gluten free waffles, which have changed my life forever.
Forever!

Very good Monica!
I loved it, post more articles about it :).

I have to say that was my biggest realization about running- no-one cares what I’m doing. And if they do, I don’t have time for them!

The best workout I did is a tie between a HIIT and Strength sesh and some sweaty Vinyasa. Your kitty is too funny! Better sleep with one eye open!

HIIT always kicks my butt!

In most cases other people are too busy thinking about themselves to care about how you look. I have to remind myself of that all the time.
runeatrepeat says
Exactly! It’s funny everyone is mostly just busy with themselves and we assume they’re worried about us – nope 🙂

I used to be super self conscious about running outside, but if I’m going to be judged by someone driving by, at least I’m out trying- it’s better than not trying at all! 🙂
runeatrepeat says
Exactly. I feel the same on ‘at least I’m out there trying!’

Yup, so true! Forget what anyone else thinks!!!

Best workout was the 4 mile walk with my friend and my dog last night on the boardwalk with the Verrazano bridge in front of us and a gorgeous pink sunset. Got me all excited for this year’s NYC marathon. I love living on Staten Island just for the fact I can drive to the start 🙂
Best food was my pizza lunch today. It was from Lombardi’s. Best brick oven pizza in NYC (in my opinion)

Isn’t that just like a cat? I love how she’s hiding (“you can’t see me!”). Mine isn’t interested when I want to snuggle on a Saturday afternoon, but then wakes me up at 3 a.m. by tapping on my face so I will lift the covers for him so that he can crawl underneath the warmth. Meow.
runeatrepeat says
Awwww. I love that (even though I’m sure you don’t dig being woken up at 3am). Super cute.

I love this post! So true, especially since it is so easy to feel like your on display running. Maybe it is because I have too much time to notice everyone else??? Since you started on the treadmill, do you have any treadmill running tips? I feel like that is where my life is headed Soon. PS: I love that hat!
runeatrepeat says
I loved to catch up on TV while I was on the treadmill. Easy, breezy shows that don’t require too much attention are best. Plus I always had a towel and water within arms reach.
Some people cover the display so you’re not watching the time tick by. I just tried to ignore it and run.
