Dinner was based on this lovely pretzel roll I had. I actually bought it for Ben, but he said he didn’t like it. What is wrong with him?!
Anyways, I made a massive hummus sandwich with mushrooms and sprouts. It may have been dipped in more hummus 😉 Bread makes a sandwich.
This afternoon I had some fruit and oatmeal for a snack. These oatmeal packets were on sale recently. They have added protein and I thought I’d give them a shot. One packet did keep me full for a long time, but it was a little too sweet.
We have a lot of ripe fruit and that makes me happy…
Lunch was a chickpea salad. Oh, there was hummus and veggies too (but that is less important).
Do as I say, not as I do… I picked these up the other day since I am currently obsessed with Vitatops, but my wallet isn’t loving their price tag. These 100 calorie packs from Hostess are half the price of Vitatops, but they are also half as good. Boo.
How do you balance cost versus taste?
I try to weigh the pros and cons of certain expensive products like nut butters and Vitatops. They are more money, but if I don’t end up satisfied with the alternative I end up eating more anyways (wasting money and calories).

I definitely feel the same way. I’m all about satisfying my exact craving for things, otherwise I’m just going to eat it later – 3 times more and AFTER I already ate the thing that was supposed to replace it.
Also, pretzel sandwiches are super cool. I love making them into pressed sandwiches. So yummy.
……and what was in that chickpea salad? It looks incredible!!

You have to tell me where you got that roll. I’d trade my first born child for that.
That is so funny. One of the last legit binges I had involved 2 boxes of those damn 100 calorie pack cupcakes. They were on sale 2/$5 ,and I ate all $5 worth on the way home from the grocery store. One box of carrot, and one box of chocolate! Ugh. Gross. VitaTops are definitely better. Did you see if you can register on their website for coupons??

Freeze the cupcakes. For some reason they are much more satisying and chewy when they are frozen. Try it, you will like it.

I always think it’s better to “waste” money and splurge to benefit your health then at happy hour or on junk!

Hey Monica! I love your blog. I can’t believe Ben wouldn’t eat that pretzel roll. Funny!

I love pretzel rolls and ate too many while I stayed in Germany last year for about 3 months. Delicious! As for me, I always try to eat the best food possible and will stock up and save. I buy vitatops in bulk with a discount or two and just freeze them. I also shop at Sam’s club for my spinach, laughing cow cheese, boca burgers, etc.

Pretzel rolls in Germany?! That sounds like my dream 🙂

I usually do taste/health over value. It’s a bad habit to form, but usually if I buy the cheaper thing, I end up not eating it and then I spend the money on the original thing I wanted.

I love Vitatops but hate the price as well, I normally just wait till Hungry Girl has a special. I got 24 for 29.99 (free shipping) a few weeks ago, the Banana Fudge flavor is my new favorite.

I only buy them online if I get a free shipping coupon!

Are you kidding? Those cupcakes are awesome! I never buy them because I will just eat the whole box. Vitatops are not nearly as appealing to me, so I can keep them in the house.
runeatrepeat says
Allison, you even think that about the dark choc flavor vitatop? I love it.

I usually end up going for taste over value. I figure Id rather buy good stuff and eat a little less (in terms of treats) than buy something I’m not crazy about. I <3 Vitatops too! The cranbran is my favorite. When my Kroger puts them on sale I stock up.
