Protein Blondie Recipe and Avocado Ice Cream??

Snacks

7 May

Hello! How’s it going? This morning I was up bright and early to meet Jen for a run. I enjoyed a little iced coffee on the way.

iced coffee and morning run (450x800)

Post-run I hit up Ralph’s for some essentials and spotted this Avocado Ice Cream. Yes, I check the ice cream aisle at 7:30am on a Wednesday, don’t you?

Anyway – The Ben and Jerry’s sale lured me over… PSA: Buy some.

Then, I saw this Avocado Ice Cream. But, I didn’t buy it… which I kind of regret now. Thoughts?

Post-run breakfast plus a container of raspberries on the way home. I’m super into Ezekiel toast and egg whites right now.

i love all the breakfasts (800x600)

Later in the day I spotted this Maple Water at Trader Joes – what is this??

I’m guessing it a magic pill of some sort that also makes a killer pancake milkshake.

what the hell is maple water (600x800)

PSA #2: TJ’s blueberries are the worst lately. This is the 3rd container I’ve bought that is NOT good at all. Boo.

So, the most popular recipe on RER of all time is Protein Brownies. Random since I think there are a ton of better options (read: any pancake recipe I have).

I’ve been wanting to make a Protein Blondie Recipe for a long time and finally got to it…

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup almond butter
  • 1 egg (or 1/4 cup egg whites)
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 tsp : each vanilla, salt, baking powder
  • 1/2 cup vanilla protein powder
  • 2 packets stevia or sugar

Directions: Place almond butter in microwave for a few seconds to soften. Mix wet ingredients well. Combine with dry ingredients. Mix well. Pour into pan sprayed with non-stick spray. Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes. I used a smallish glass dish.

Enjoy!

Now I’m relaxing with my cat. He’s trying to smack me. I will smack him back.

Question: Should I try the avocado ice cream? Maple Water?

Yes on the avocado ice cream and a big no on the maple water. That just sounds a little too weird for me.

I would have gone for the avocado ice cream until I saw the carageenan in there, so that changed my vote to a no. I’ll bet you could easily make your own! I never heard of maple water and I’m sure it’s good, but is it really necessary to have sweet water??? Maybe for a smoothie that doesn’t have anything sweet in it but I’m not one to pay for water, sweet or otherwise.

I’ve had maple water. It has a subtle sweetness. There are a few new types of water out there. Birch is another one I’ve seen a lot. I’ve heard it’s just a lot of hype with little benefit…but it’s fun to try!

I don’t know about avocado ice cream, but last night I was watching Masterchef and they made a feta and olive oil ice cream that was apparently amazing … I’m not sure I’m convinced about savoury ice cream flavours either! But you can only try it 🙂

Try the avocado ice cream- I hear it’s a delicacy in Brasil and delicious 🙂

I’d say no on the maple water- it would just make me sad that I wasn’t drinking a banana and maple smoothie 😛

I’ve never had avocado ice cream, but generally these weird savory ice cream flavors are amazing. I always order olive oil ice cream when I see it on a restaurant’s menu, and I never regret it. So I say give avocado ice cream a shot!

Maple water, on the other hand…blergh.

Maple water is trying to be like coconut water (even though it has half as much sugar). I’ve never tried it but I have heard that it has quite a few health benefits. But I’m sure it’s just a “trendy” thing.

I’m jealous of that Ben & Jerry’s section!! All the grocery stores around me have maybe 2 little shelves that are hardly stocked. Sigh.

Definitely try the avocado ice cream. The maple water sounds lame. It’s probably just dew, or something.

I like to try everything so I don’t wonder about it later. That way I know whether it was worth it or not. For awhile I was obsessed with making AB + jelly sandwiches on cinnamon raisin Ezekiel bread. Actually, I would have continued but I ran out of bread. That reminds me…

Yes try the avocado ice cream. In the Philippines, where Magnolia ice cream started, avocados are sweet and eaten with milk and sugar. Try all of their flavors! So good!

My Hubs would live off of avocado smoothies and shakes if I let him.
      1/2 avocado
1tbsp of sugar (he uses way more!)
      milk
      blend to make your milkshake

he will also add in some vanilla protein powder if he wants to add a meal to his day.
Personally it is too thick and fat heavy for me (good fats though!) but the kids love it and call them ‘Hulk Shakes’

There’s this vietnamese place in DC that has an avocado shake. I was super grossed out by the idea of it, but then a friend made me try some. It was magical. On the other hand, I’ve tried to make my own “shakes” using avocado and had them turn out repulsive. Avocado ice cream could go either way.
