Questions, Comments…

Uncategorized

My seventh grade science teacher would always say, “Questions? Comments? Complaints keep to yourself.” Ha, I love saying that now.

I am totally digging all these questions from my anonymous question form. I’m going break up my answers in different posts because I don’t want it to get too boring…

Question: How do you remain so positive?

Monica: Ouch, are you trying to say my life sucks so much that I should be depressed? Ha, I hope not! I have a good life and I’m very grateful to God 🙂 My life is far from perfect and sometimes I wish for things I don’t have, but overall I’ve got a pretty good deal.

Oh, but do you mean how do I stay so positive despite the tragically cold winter I’m currently having to endure? Because the answer would be: By counting down the days until I can get the hell out of here.

Question: If you could eat one food/meal for the rest of your life and calories didn’t matter what would it be? Ben’s meal of choice?

Monica: This was a tough one because my favorite foods don’t necessarily make me feel great when eaten all the time, but I’m going to have to go with frozen yogurt. I would hope that I had access to Yogurtland so I could get fruit, nuts and granola on top too!

Ben: Pizza.

*Note – Ben was surprised that I picked frozen yogurt. He said, “You can really eat something sweet for the rest of your life?”

Me: “Are you kidding? Do you even know me? The only reason I don’t eat cereal for breakfast, PB&J for lunch and ice cream for dinner is because I don’t let myself.”

Ben: “Then, you’re not intuitive eating.”

Ha! I feel sorry for him and how much he knows about intuitive eating from me 🙂

Question: Why do you have red hair? Did you like it or hate it growing up?

Monica: I have heard jokes about being the milk man’s kid all my life. I don’t know why my mom and dad are Mexican, but I look Irish. That’s not entirely true – an Irish girl would never have these latin hips. Seriously though, the red hair gene has to be on both sides. I guess it turns out both my mom and dad have someone way back in the day that had red hair.

I am most likely a descendant the Spanish conquistadors that invaded Mexico. No wonder I’m such a hell-raiser.

Me and Michael

Part II: I actually did like having red hair growing up. I was an attention whore until I got self conscious about my body and wanted everyone to look away. My brother hated it though! He got a lot worse teasing than me 🙁 It sucks to be a red headed guy in a brown town. But now all the chicks want him to keep it long because they dig it…

Question: How tall are you?

Monica: An easy one! 5″6

Don’t let this picture fool you – I am not 6 feet tall, my friends are just short…

Question: Do you really feel that you NEED to lose extra pounds or are you willing to consider being happy where you are? You exercise often and moderate well. Perhaps your body is trying to tell you that it is where it wants to be….

Monica: Do I really need to lose the extra pounds for medical/health reasons? No. But, at 5″6 I am hovering way too close to 160. I am asking my body to carry my “close to 160 pound” ass 26.2 miles. I think it’s in the best interest of my knees, ankles and feet that I lighten the load a bit.

Also, I don’t feel good about my body. I don’t like how I look in shorts or tight tops. I can be better and I want to be better. I will never get anywhere near the low range for my health. My goal weight is on the very high end for my age/height, but I’m okay with that.

I realize acceptance is important. I remember a conversation I had with Evelyn Tribole, author of “Intuitive Eating”, when she was helping me with my food issues. I asked her, “But, if I can’t diet…what if I eat intuitively and don’t lose weight or get to my goal weight?”

She said, “Then, it’s about acceptance.”

I wanted to cry. That’s not what I wanted to hear. But I know she is right. However, I am still at a place where I overeat if I so much as think about cutting something from my diet, eat when I’m not hungry and eat way way past full. If I was truly an intuitive eater and this athletic I would realize I should work on acceptance as is. Great question!

If you have a question for Monica or Ben ask here 🙂

Still to be answered…

How did you meet Ben? – I’ve never talked about this on the blog!!!

Supporters of gay adoptions dispute these correlations. But to repeal bans on gay adoptions, they dont have to prove that gay couples, on average, are as parentally fit as straight couples. They just have to change the question to whether all straight couples are more parentally fit than all gay couples. Suppose, for example, theres more suicide, depression, promiscuity, and domestic violence among blacks than among whites. Would such findings justify a ban on adoptions by blacks? If not, why would they justify a ban on adoptions by gays?

Hello just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your article seem to be running off the screen in Internet explorer. I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know. The layout look great though! Hope you get the issue solved soon. Cheers

I’m with you on the sweets thing girl! I actually try to do it though.
Sweet oats for breakfast, luna bar snack, pb wrap with bananas for lunch, vanilla greek yogurt with golean crunch, then sweet potatoes with chicken for dinner and froyo for dessert. That’s the sweet plan for today!

My cousin has red hair like you, and he’s half-Mexican (but the hair comes from my side of the family. the non-Mexican side). He died his hair black because he thought he looked “too Jewish” and I guess he wanted to look “more Mexican.” Oh, children.

That whole acceptance vs dieting thing is SO hard, I feel like I can totally relate. I love how honest you are with everything you go through, I hope it helps you like it helps your readers.

I haven’t been to the froyo place here – they all are a bit of a trek for me. It sounds delish tho!

My one food for the rest of my life would have to be fajitas. But only with all the fixins 🙂

I would definitely choose something sweet (probably mint chocolate chip ice cream) to eat every single day. That sweet tooth needs to be fed… 😉

I love Yogurtland. I always overload with chocolate toppings. There are two close to my house and I have to use restraint. My kids look forward to Fridays because it is called “frozen yogurt friday” at my house.
