Hello! Happy Olympic Marathon Day!!!! Today was the big day – the Women’s Olympic Marathon! I woke up and sipped iced coffee while watching it online.
Did you watch it? It was available on streaming live and now it’s on TV.
The marathon winner about to break the tape….
I was so into this and cheering them on like a weirdo talking to my computer.
At the end Flanagan and Linden hugging…
The US runners are: Shalane Flanagan, Desiree Davila and Amy Cragg.
USATF athletes: Amy Cragg (Leavenworth, Kansas), Desiree Linden (Chula Vista, California), Shalane Flanagan (Marblehead, Massachusetts)
USATF at-a-glance: Cragg is the two-time defending U.S. marathon champion and moves up from the Olympic 10,000m in 2012, while Linden is the 2011 Boston Marathon runner-up and Flanagan the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist in the 10,000m. It will be the second Olympic marathon for Flanagan and Linden. (source)
Rio 2016 Olympic Marathon Winners:
1. Jemima Sumgong from Kenya – 2:24:04
2. Eunice Kirwa running for Bahrain – 2:24:13
3. Mare Dibaba from Ethiopia – 2:24:30
The US women did AMAZING. They looked super strong even at the end. It was so inspiring! Congratulations to all!!!
In another part of the world I ran half as much five times as slow yesterday morning. So yeah, I have that going for me.
I had 12 miles at goal pace on the training schedule. But, I’m not at the fitness level to hit goal pace so I’ve had to adjust my goals to my current fitness. I’m really happy with how it felt though!
12 miles – average pace 8:17
It was a gorgeous day in SoCal for running. It always is though….
Post-run I had a protein shake topped with nuts and cereal. It totally hit the spot!
A little while later I made a mixing bowl salad with everything in the fridge that was salad appropriate…
I also had a creamy strawberry popsicle. I stayed out late one night this week and hit the drive-through for a strawberry shake. I don’t know if I was super hungry or sleepy or what but it was so delicious! I keep thinking about that shake and want another one.
I grabbed a pack of these ice cream pops to satisfy my need for creamy strawberry-goodness. They are made by Healthy Choice and I recommend!
Then, I headed to my parent’s house for a little visit (by ‘visit’ I mean ‘raid their fridge and play with the puppies’).
First things first – I got more ice cream and relaxed with my book.
I am reading Run Fast Eat Slow and ironically ate ice cream while reading about super healthy recipes.
I also spent a lot of time trying to get a dog selfie. This resulted in a lot of sloppy puppy licks, paw marks on my clothes, nearly falling over as all the dogs came to get pets at the same time… and I loved every second.

Yes I watched! So inspiring! I did a 28 mile bike ride this weekend. Bum knee, so no running for me right now (and it’s killing me!)

I watched the marathon and as always was in awe at those machines. They amaze me. The 10th place just as much as the first.
I ran 3 miles on Saturday in intense heat and humidity and was thrilled to make it without walking. I can’t wait for the fall weather to arrive 🙂

I just wen for the mos amazing 8 mile run ever. I’ve been doing a lot of interval runs lately and its really paying off on my long runs as my pace is becoming faster.

I watched the marathon after a 10 mile run with my furry partner (a shorter long run for marathon training!) and a nap.
Have a great start into the week!

I really want that book! I made two recipes from it (that were in Runners World) and they were amazing!!

I feel like you’ve said you haven’t run your races or your training runs at ideal pace because you’re not in the right fitness place… But pushing yourself to that pace is surely what gets you to that fitness point?! It can’t be some magical feeling right?

I did watch! I’m bummed USA didn’t win, but it’s impressive they were all in the top 10. I got in six miles and have another six to go. I decided to split it in half since its so hot and humid here and I can’t do 12 on the treadmill!

I did get in a great run today too! The mornings in Colorado are getting brisk and it feels so great to run in. I’m on week 2 of half training so I ran 6 miles While listening to ted radio hour about marketing branding.. It was glorious!

I did watch the Marathon! Can you explain how there are US-Runners and then USATF Runners? I thought only 3 US runners could do the Olympic Marathon. Clearly wrong:)
Randomly I also ordered that book last week. Can’t wait for it to arrive!
