Run Eat Repeat

Runner Nuts? Is this a food or what?

Hi! How are you? Ready to ring in the New Year? Ready to sleep in the new year?? Other??? I had some MAJOR fails this year. Actually, I had some major fails within the last 24 hours! Let’s just get all the fails out of the way so we can talk about wins.

First. Last night I was watching TV at my parents’ while working on my laptop. I got up to get a snack (obviously) and set my lapper down on the remote. Then, I came back to this:

dont order tv (800x450)

Hmmm… What is… oh no. I was about to order a porno at my parents’ house?!?!?!!! WTH.

busted at moms (800x450)

I ran around the room screaming dramatically because I thought it was funny and was now hyped up from my previously mentioned snack.

Then, just as I got into bed the fire alarm started to go off. It was so loud and scared the crap out of me since I was just about to drift off into sleep and wasn’t in my own bed at home and had taken some NightQuil.

Since I was in charge I got up on a chair and pressed the button to stop it.

But then it happened again. And Matt said this happened before and it kept going off and they couldn’t stop it. So last time they put it in the exercise room under a ton of blankets. Well, that wouldn’t work for me because I’m a light sleeper. So I figured we should just pop the battery out. If you’re a property owner and your house’s or current space’s fire alarm system and/or water-based fire protection system such as a sprinkler system is not operational, you are required by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Florida Statute to implement a fire watch should that system become impaired. You may seek expert help from the best Sacramento fire watch.

But the thing would not come apart! We tried twisting and turning and prying it open but NOPE. We bent a butter knife trying to get it open.

And after several hours* of fighting with this ear drum destroyer I told Matt we should just break it. And even that was a challenge!! (*Okay, maybe not hours but at least 4 minutes.)

Finally we broke it open enough to push the battery out of the way.

But instead of thanking me for saving her kid from permanent hearing loss my mom informed me that the fire alarm was supposed to be one of those ones guaranteed for 10 years and it was barely 1 year old. Whelp. Now you tell me.

fire alarm fail

Luckily, fire alarms are on sale at Costco. You should get one too. If you wanna add more fire safety products, you can check out DuraBarrier USA. Maybe this whole debacle happened just so I can remind you to check your fire alarm. See Mom? Don’t be mad. It’s for a good cause.

But I did get punished in the form of Vegas barfing on the bed while I was gone. What a jerk.

In food news… I made a massive epic ridiculous salad for a late lunch.

And then I went to the grocery store where I perused the nut butter options. I don’t need any PB or almond butter or magic beanstalk butter… but I like seeing what’s new. And I spotted this PB from Australia that’s made with RUNNER NUTS.

What are runner nuts? Should I be eating them before I run? After I run? Do they make you a better runner?

Before we talk about running goals for 2017…. have you thought about your WINS for 2016? What did you accomplish? What can you learn from the year? We’ll talk about the highlights next time!

Don’t forget to check your fire alarm! Because if you have a fire at your house and my mom finds out she’s going to say that me breaking her alarm was pointless and then I’m going to be grounded or something. Thanks.

Question: Are you as obsessed with Costco as I am?

Should I try Runner Nuts? Have you tried them?

THIS IS YOUR YEAR.

That PB is from New Zealand not Australia! NZ and OZ have a wee bit of a rivalry so I need to point that out. It’s awesome, made in my home town.

I have a question not related directly to this post.
Have you ever experienced “runners knee” or any kind of overuse injury? I am experiencing this for the second time. 🙁
It seems I need to increase my stretching once back at it. What stretching do you do before or after a run, and any advice for running injury free? Thanks! Love your blog and Instagram!

Yes, I had IT band syndrome a few years ago. I didn’t have runner’s knee, but that’s what I thought it was at first based on Dr. Google.

I think hip and quad stretching is super important and using the foam roller. Also pigeon pose.

Monica Pic’s is soooo good you should try it. It’s from New Zealand not Australia but (I live in New Zealand) I have not seen the runner’s nut version.

After some investigative reporting (aka google), runner nuts are just a type of peanut, like Virginia or Spanish peanuts. Boring! I thought maybe there was an interesting story behind it. But alas, there is not.
Where I live, we only have a Sam’s Club. But yes, I am obsessed with it. There’s a Costco about 45 minutes away and I have a membership there too. I feel like it’s a “special occasion” place. It just feels better than Sam’s (don’t tell Sam’s I said that). If you want to win a place in my heart, take me to a grocery store.

I’m guessing that the “Runner’s nut” is referring to the Runner’s group type of peanut. You can see it discussed here on Wikipedia under Cultivars

We have like 8 smoke detectors in our house and, without fail, the stupid mother-effers always go off at like two am. Then we have to figure out what one it is and sometimes bring in the ladder to change the batteries. A necessary evil, I guess, but why can’t they start blinking or something a day in advance so you have some warning (or maybe those exist and we just don’t have them?).

This is a brilliant idea!! You should invent this and retire on the proceeds.

Your fire alarm is so sneaky! Maybe you should invest in a better one or else you won’t be able to tell a real fire from a false alarm in the future, haha.

We don’t have Costco where I live. I really envy America’s HUUUUGEEEE grocery stores! Target, Trader Joe’s, whatever…. they’ll all be my first stop when I visit. So touristy.
