Hello! I didn’t realize today was Wednesday because I have a three different events in LA tonight, tomorrow and Friday so I’m all confused in the world.
This also means I’m busy and need to be productive asap. So here is a quick “Run, Eat (repeat)” post:
Run: 8 miles.
I have not been getting enough miles in for the Ultra on May 18th. Sure I have been running a good amount, but not enough for a 30 mile race. I was a little stressed about it, but I have been doing the best I can.
I ran 14 miles in AZ, I ran 10 miles the day after Ragnar – again, I get an “E” for effort but it’s not enough for my up coming calendar. Obviously, I’m just going to end up walking some of the ultra and I’m okay with that. I’m just doing my best given my schedule.
Eat: Pancakes!
This weekend I made delicious pancakes. Growing up my mom would serve us pancakes with an egg on top for extra protein. I LOVE the salty yolk and sweet syrup combo!
But I tried cracking the egg directly onto the pancake before flipping and it was amazing!
This is how it looked on the other side. Delicious!
And I wanted to answer this very important question…
“How do you fuel for an all night relay race?”
Well, Monicans fuel with Tapatio. Yes, I keep packets of Tapatio in my purse – is that weird?
Weight loss Wednesday Snacking check in – I have been doing horrible with snacking on the weekends, mid-week is a little better, but not as clean as I’d like. I need to make a batch of protein bars or stock up on packaged ones so that I have something easy to grab around 3pm. That’s the plan for afternoons for the rest of the week.
Question: What are you snacking on today?
Dani says
Hey Monica, great job trying to incorporate more distance for your upcoming ultra. Just wondering if you are incorporating more hill training and trail running into your ultra training? I’m an urban runner/road marathoner training for my first trail 50k and I’ve come to realize how important it is not to underestimate the elevation profile of ultras. The distance is not much longer than 26.2, but the hills and terrain make the run much more difficult than 31 road miles. Just something to think about. Good luck!
runeatrepeat says
To be honest, I’m not really incorporating anything into my ‘training’ – I haven’t been training, just running when I can. I know it’s not good, but I’m swamped 🙁 Thanks for chiming in though – next time I need to do that.
Sue says
I’ve been really good and having healthy snacks – rich tea biscuits from Marks & Spencer and a glass of soy milk (mid morning) and crackers with PB (afternoon snack).
Melissa @TryingtoHeal says
Oh snacks…I finally got my hands on my favorite Odwalla bars because seriously, the best bars out there. Never tastes artificial or dry! LOVE!
Lindsey @ Run Freckles Run says
I had some popcorn earlier. This evening I had a rice cake, with peanut butter and nutella on top. Threw some almonds on there as well.
Briana says
I’m so good during the day – I love baby carrots and raw sugar snap peas alone or with hummus – but when I get home, like now, I really just want to eat an entire loaf of bread and call it a night. What the heck??
Sarah@boundingthroughlife says
It looks to me like you made a french toast pancake!
Which might actually be a brilliant idea. Has anybody ever thought of that before?
[email protected] says
Tapatio packets aren’t weird. I used to keep taco bell hot sauce packets in my bags in high school and now, I have tabasco packets. I would love it if they made little sriracha and cholula packets. Now THAT would be awesome.
Jodea @ chillichocolatelove says
Nada. I make sure my meals are filling enough so I don’t snack. It works, and I used to be the snack queen.
TITLE Boxing Club Brookfield says
Never seen that before. Very creative.
meredith says
I love the egg on the pancake! I always make pancakes with eggs or order it at the diner but never saw it cracked directly on the pancake in the pan. Must make that soon! I am not a huge snacker, I am more of a mini meal person if that makes sense. I swear my “snacks” consist of extra dessert delight gum or the watermelon flavor and I need to break the habit! Who knows how many packs I go through in a week.
Brooks says
Cookie dough Quest bars! SO incredibly yummy!
Sharsti@theblondehairblueeyedrunner says
Wasabi hummus and carrots yum! Great run!!
Jojo says
I don’t usually snack much during the day, but this week I’ve been studying/stressing about an orgo midterm, so I’ve been snacking late at night, trying to stay focused xP
Mia says
Today I’m snacking on mini chocolate chips 🙁 So I guess that means my snacking is not going so well… Thanks for the reminder to better my snacks
Becky @ Olives n Wine says
LOVE the egg/pancake idea! I bet it is delicious with syrup. I’ve been snacking on QuestBars recently. Delicious and full of protein!
Zaneta says
I’ve been snacking on celery with peanut butter and some strawberries! What in the world is Tapatio?! I’ve never heard of such a thing!! (don’t hate me!) 😉
Michelle @ 3cheaprunners says
snack this afternoon – fresh pineapple…yummy…and maybe later some jello light 🙂 (there is always room…or so I’ve been told)
Chelsea says
My sister keeps packs of hot sauce in her purse, too! Great minds and all 😉
I’ve never heard of an egg-topped pancake! But I can definitely see that salty/sweet combo being absolutely delicious, so I may just have to try it. Quick question – any great recommendation for store-bought protein bars? Trying to clean up my own snacking and would love the tip!
runeatrepeat says
Hey Chelsea, I love Quest bars lately, also KIND bars are delicious!
Tara says
I made the no bake protein bars that Blondeponytail posted, and they are soo good (and easy!)

Elizabeth @ Positive Change says
I have not done any snacking yet, but I have an evening run scheduled and will be eating some rice chex cereal with some almonds!
A Pillow for Your Thoughts says
Best of luck with the rest of your running schedule before the big race! 30 miles is quite the accomplishment!
Victoria says
Snacks of choice this week are celery sticks, oranges, and paleo banana chocolate chip muffins!
Thetinyrunner says
Yum that looks good!!! I am snacking on banana and peanut butter and starbucks green tea. The usual…
Jackie says
What a great idea to crack the egg directly into the pancake! 🙂 Was the yolk still runny? I am going to have to try this because one of my favorite brunch items is a waffle, with a slice of crisped-up Canadian bacon on top, then topped with a runny egg, a drizzle of syrup and some parmesan! Yum! It’s a wonderful salty-sweet combination.
runeatrepeat says
No, I think I overcooked it a bit so the egg wasn’t as runny as I wanted. Guess I have to make it again… 😉
Ashley says
My snacking is going pretty similarly- the week is okay but on the weekends its snack city. Also pancake egg looks awesome.
Ashley @ Eat Run Live Happy says
I run on Tapatio too! I love my hot sauce. I’ve been snacking on pineapple lately. It’s so fresh and sweet since it’s in season. I’ve fallin in love.
michelle kim says
For a snack, I get some frozen mangoes and put a huge scoop of plain Greek yogurt on it (instead of getting the flavored ones, which have more sugar and additives). And I top it with a bit of granola for the crunch.
OMG, I love eggs. That idea with the egg added to pancake sounds amazing!
Christine @ BookishlyB says
Kashi bar this morning and then I plan on some turkey breast w/ string cheese when I get home. And that’s it- scout’s honor.
runeatrepeat says
You are so good. I eat string cheese and turkey while I make my real snack…
Rhonda says
just snacked up some celery – yum!
Presh says
My snacking is out of controllllll!!!!
I need rehab.
It’s getting bad
and maybe i’m overreacting
but i think it’s getting bad
really bad lol.
Today I snacked on a handful of kashi cheese crackers and had a larabar before lunch. Not too bad as of YET!
Jessica R @ fromthekitchentotheroad says
The snack of the afternoon is going to be an apple with peanut butter. We will see if I can stick with just that.
Colleen says
I don’t have any time to snack during the week so that’s not my problem. I am horrible about it on the weekend….I have yet to figure out how to break that pattern….
Kelsey says
That looks like the best pancake I’ve ever seen!
Apples and Greek yogurt 🙂
Lauren @ Sassy Molassy says
So question for you. I’m not sure if I missed the post, but I assume you’re now blogging/running for work rather than working at the gym most of the time? Just curious to hear some more details on that aspect. Did you have this plan and timeline in place to change your career to be a full time blogger athlete or did the pieces just fall into place? Always enjoy reading your blog, Monica!
My snacks today are real food multigrain chips and yogurt. Yogurt is my everyday afternoon snack. Can’t get enough!
Monica says
I know we are all our own worst critics so I just wanted to say I think you look fantastic! You look undoubtedly slimmer than 6 months ago!
Tabatha Rhodes says
I’m snacking on an Oatmeal To Go bar and those things are dangerous!! I bought a big box of them at Sam’s club and once they run out I will not buy them again! I just want to eat ALL OF THEM RIGHT NOW!
The egg in the pancake thing is awesome! I’m totally doing that next pancake Sunday!
Courtney says
Love that pancake and egg combo; I’ll have to give it a try soon. I’m not much of a snacker, but when I do snack, it’s usually on fruit.
Ashley says
I have really been struggling with my snacking as well… I always want something super sweet around 2:00. This week I made a batch of protein power bites which aren’t totally guilt free but they curb my sweet tooth and they are super clean. I also have a slight addiction to ranch quakes, and whole grain goldfish!
Jessica R @ fromthekitchentotheroad says
I am a nanny and just started working for a new family. It is taking everything in me not to eat their entire Costco sized container of whole grain goldfish!
Ashley @OurPersonalRecords says
I brought a bag of carrots into work with me today! Clearly not the norm, but we need to go grocery shopping, and carrots seem to linger around the longest! Maybe it makes up for the two over-sized, over-frosted cupcakes I inhaled yesterday?
Amy @ Writing While Running says
I love the egg/pancake combination, but I hate syrup. Yes, I am very, very odd. I prefer salty, buttery eggs and pancakes. I’m a snack-a-holic and proud of it so I can’t participate in your challenge.
Claudia says
I snack on individual packets of almond, and cashew butter. It keeps me from getting “hangry”. I did get asked once if I was eating a packet of salad dressing. Weird. I also keep fruit, nuts, and Greek yogurt around for snack time.
Good luck with your hectic schedule!
