I completely forgot that we had dinner plans with our friends last night! Around 3pm I got an email from Ben that we were going to Sam Woo Restaurant in Irvine.
We were there just under a year ago for his friends wedding rehearsal dinner! (<– That is a really random, but fun post!)
Anyways, I don’t remember the food being great so I wasn’t that excited about dinner. I was excited to see his friends though! They are moving to Northern California (we were just considering the same move, but opted out!) and we’re sad to see them go.
While we were waiting for them I had a lot of time to read the menu – this was perfect because many of Sam Woo’s dishes are very authentic and I haven’t tried them before.
Of course I checked the dessert section – What is Walnut Soup?!
^^Side note: Just realized that it says you can omit MSG upon request. I wish I would have seen that before we ordered!
I think it’s funny when people assume vegetarian food is “diet”. Yeah, you can eat mac n’ cheese and cookies all day on that diet…
I saw that tofu dish above and thought it looked interesting, but not good. What do you think?
I didn’t order the Dietitian’s lover, but kinda regret that
We started with wonton soup. The broth was amazing, but the wontons weren’t my thing.
But the rest of the meal made up for that!
Everything we ordered was delicious! We ordered 4 dishes to share family style. I chose the chicken and vegetables and spicy eggplant…
Janny ordered a tofu and vegetables dish…
And that tofu dish I thought looked weird in the menu…
Well, that tofu was THE BEST ever! It was lightly fried and covered in a sweet orange sauce. The inside was soft and egg-like. It was magical.
This morning I hit up the gym for a strength workout. I had a paper with an old workout I had written down and just followed that. I think I got it from the Women’s Health Big Book, but I’m not sure…
-
single leg dead lift
-
shoulder press
-
cable row in side plank
-
goblet squat
-
chest fly
-
hamstring curls
-
sit ups on ball
-
T-raise on ball
Now I’m blogging before I log into work! I have a client to train tonight and I have to clean since I’m having a house guest this weekend
Have you seen this proposal video?
Question: Girls – would you want a big ol’ production proposal or something intimate?
Boys – how are you going to compete with that?!
mary @ what's cookin with mary says
I can walk to Sam Woo’s ;0) Love that place !! I need to go there again soon.
Janny says
The tofu is called “Egg Tofu”, they usually come in tubes that look like this. I like to sear them on both sides a pan with olive oil, add some salt and eat with rice & veggies. Delish!

Small quiet affair – just the 2 of us. BTW, those pics remind me how much I miss home cooked food! [FYI I’m Chinese]
Tasha says
That food looks so amazing. I was seriously craving something like this for dinner, but instead I had left over lentils for the 4th time this week. Boo.
Losing Lindy says
Yay for yummy supper!
Christine @ BookishlyB says
You look super tiny in that gym picture.
runeatrepeat says
Thanks…but I’ve gained about 6 pounds since last year. Let’s pretend like I lost it though 🙂
Christine @ BookishlyB says
6 pounds… of muscle! That’s what I tell myself every day.
Jamie says
Probably the pregnancy hormones but that video made me tear up a bit.
Meghan @ Run With Meg says
The orange glazed tofu looks like donuts!
runeatrepeat says
I wish.
Courtney says
Oh my, that proposal made me tear up. How incredible! 🙂 Also, that tofu looks and sounds so good; yummy stuff!
Holly says
Mmm…I love Chinese food! You’re braver than me though, I tend to stick to things I’m familiar with. I always order my food with no MSG, most places offer that. The place by my house now makes brown rice, too!
That proposal was amazing, but like the other ladies said, I’m more of a private person when it comes to that sort of thing.
Jac @ Challenged & Running in the Bike Lane says
The food looks yummy!!! We had P.F. Chang’s last night and it hurt my tummy! No bueno!
Dani @ Run Daniella Run says
That is so funny you say that about the vegetarian “diet”. People always ask if I am doing it to lose weight when they hear I’ve gone veggie…um, I could seriously eat chips, ice cream and cheese ALL DAY EVERYDAY on this “diet” LOL! I would actually probably LOSE weight if I ate meat. So funny 🙂
Abby @ Change of Pace says
That’s an awesome fortune!
I’m not a tofu fan, but my husband love it. That would be a good dish to try and recreate!
I’d die if my husband had made a big production. The way he did it was perfect!
Sarah @ RunningChickago.com says
Yum! Your dinners looked so good! I once got tofu from a restaurant that I loveeee…and hated the tofu haha so I’ve always been nervous to order it again. I figured if a restaurant that I loved messed it up, I might not like it at another place. After seeing these pics, it looks like I may have given up tofu a little too early! Next time I go out for Asian food, I think I’ll have to try it 🙂
Katy @ Couch to 5Katy says
I would never want to be proposed to in front of a ton of strangers (i.e. sporting event jumbotron). If it was to be a big production, I would want it to be really creative like the video with family and friends involved. Otherwise, I would want it to be simple, just the two of us, and have it be a total surprise!
samHOTmess says
cutest thing ever!
also, that pic of you guys outside dinner, Ben looks like he’s losing some serious weight?!!?!
I’m a vegetarian too, and that tofu sounds and looks really good!
well, it looks weird, but after you said it tasted awesome, really its just making me hungry!
runeatrepeat says
Ben has been working out more! I’ll tell him 🙂
Megan@ The Running Doc says
Oh my gosh, that proposal was awesome! I can only imagine how much work that must have taken to put together. As cool as it was, I think I’d prefer something a little more intimate. 🙂
Cara says
I know them! The guy proposing is my old roommate’s brother. Small world!
runeatrepeat says
AH!! Very cool 🙂
