Sunday morning we woke up covered in bug bites(!) and got ready to hit the road. Since we got into the Sequoia later than expected we didn’t get the chance to see much Saturday.
So, we quickly packed up the tent and grabbed some breakfast. I packed hard boiled eggs in the cooler and a baggie of cereals.
Ben busted out the chocolate covered espresso beans. You know, since we didn’t have coffee – we just ate the beans!
Campers are usually early risers, but we had the roads mostly to ourselves and stopped to enjoy the view.
We both look so sleepy 🙂
Our first stop was to the largest living thing on earth – The General Sherman!
From the General Sherman we took the Congress Trail. It is an easy 2 mile loop of giant Sequoia trees. Ben and I love hiking, but this trip didn’t have room for that so we just enjoyed the sights.
The Congress Trail has sets of trees named for the Senate, Congress and the President 🙂
It was a lot colder than we had planned for and had to keep moving to stay warm. Ben decided a little dancing would help.
The park is about 5 1/2 hours away from our place and we didn’t want to get home too late, so we bid a reluctant good-bye to the trees and headed home.
Once we were out of the park we were on the look out for lunch! We spotted this random restaurant and decided to give it a shot.
As soon as we sat down we were greeted with warm croissants and orange marmalade butter.
Then, the waitress came by with another plate – this time fruit and white chocolate dip! Plus, she offered us free mimosas! After a night of sleeping on the floor and being eaten alive by buys this was an oasis in the desert camp grounds.
They had a few things that caught my eye – including a tofu salad and tofu scramble. I hated that I something else had already caught my eye 🙁
I ended up getting the turkey sandwich with cranberry cream cheese spread.
Ben got an amazing ham sandwich. We both loved our food.
There were pit stops and snacks. It was a long drive!
It was a very good weekend 🙂

Gorgeous pictures! I love trees! I am definitely a tree-hugger. I went to the Redwoods Forest when I was a teen. I’d love to go back as an adult.

Hi! This is my first time writing a comment, but I have been reading your blog for a few months now. My comment has nothing to do with this post, but I just thought of a movie quote that you might like. Here it goes: “Dr. Bernard Hazelhof told me you should never weigh more than your refrigerator and to never eat anything bigger than your head. I once ate a watermelon bigger than my head, but not all at once. ” It’s better when you hear it from the movie, which is called Mary and Max. Very touching movie by the way, very creative. I thought this watermelon thing would make you smile!

I love Kings Canyon/ Sequoia! I haven’t been since I was a little girl, but the time spent there was amazing. Those trees look so intimidating when you’re 11 years old…
