Remember when I was all excited about my new running shoes? Well, after running in them a few times I’ve decided they didn’t offer enough support so I took them back today. I traded them in for a pair of old faithfuls, Adidas Supernova…
The salesman mentioned that I get 25% off of everything today (and today was the last day). So, I wandered around the store so I could take advantage. I bought this special detergent that is made for high tech gear. Added bonus – it claims to “Completely remove odors”
We’ll see about that. My nickname isn’t “Stinky butt who smells like week old road kill on an August day” for nothing. I will report back with the results.
So, I had this amazing revelation during my Intuitive Eating failure today:
Monica + Tired = Eating
Monica gets tired everyday around 4pm.
Monica always snacks around 4pm even though she is NOT HUNGRY.
Moral of the story: Drink some caffeine and stop sabotaging your weight loss!
I know, it’s pretty amazing how I was able to piece all that together right? But seriously, it is very difficult to see the most obvious things when you have a problem like this. My plan is to get some caffeine (everyday for the rest of my life) around 3:30ish and see if that helps prevent an afternoon slump and resulting binge. Perfect! Truthfully, when I realized (mid-bite) this, it was like I discovered the ancient Mayan secret as to why the world is going to end in 2012.
On the way home from the shoe store I ate all the purple grapes from this container:
Then, I had a snack plate plus some other random stuff. And BAM! This is where I get my amazing revelation. But, it was too late for me today (to prevent it). I am not sure what I will use for caffeine tomorrow, but I am on a mission. I don’t want to do the whole diet soda thing, but I’m not a coffee girl normally. We’ll see…
I had a random dinner of casserole, carrots and old protien ice cream. I wish I had some kind of explanation, but I don’t.
If you want to know how you are most likely going to die you can check out this chart. I am pretty much guaranteed to die of Cancer since it’s the #1 way Hispanic females die at any age. Fantastic. I am eating all this healthy food for nothing. Noted.
Race News – I signed up for the Surf City Half Marathon on February 7th! This is going to be my return to the scene of the crime where I finished my first full marathon last year!! I didn’t want to do the full again since I will be going a full the month before (Disney Jan. 10), but I am excited to get back to CA running again!!!

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case. naturally like your web-site but you need to check the spelling on several of your posts. Several of them are rife with spelling issues and I find it very troublesome to tell the truth nevertheless I’ll certainly come back again.

I have the same problem with tiredness leading to eating when not hungry. Caffeine seems to work for me. I lean towards tea, but of the iced variety. Snapple! (or you could be less lazy than I and make your own)
Hope the caffeine works for you!

I was afraid to try different shoes so I stuck with my Saucony’s. Why mess with a good thing?

I’ve tried the de-stinkifying detergent and it really works. It doesn’t smell as nice as gain or anything, but it gets the sweat smell out.

I completely understand what you mean! When I drink coffee in the afternoon, I find that it keeps me full until dinner. Works like a charm to stop the binge snacking for me.

I should try that detergent. Some of my clothes have a smell that just won’t come out. Usually, that’s when I retire them, but maybe that detergent would work.
Great revelation! I like the water idea. I often mistake hunger for thirst.

Those are the shoes I have and I love them.

Sounds like something I need. My husband is always complaining about my stinky shoes. 😀

I agree with all of the tea/water suggestions! I don’t know about you, but if I have more than a little bit of caffeine after 5:00, I have a really hard time falling asleep…
Good luck on the half marathon! I’m sure it will feel like a piece of cake after Disney! 🙂

I agree with the tea suggestions. It has worked for me. After a hot cup of tea I am too full to eat (well, at least for a good 15 minutes!) If you don’t like tea, what about a cup of hot cocoa?
My workout shirts smell so bad and I have tried everything! I am looking forward to your review on this detergent. ;p

Why don’t you try some green tea with honey? It’s an awesome afternoon pick me up. Tea definitely has some caffeine in it! Are you getting enough sleep at night? I try to set aside a specific eight hour window (i.e., 11-7), although it doesn’t always work…
Good luck staying awake! I eat when I’m tired too.

At 4pm when you are bored and “hungry” why don’t you try chugging water? Or snacking on carrots & raw veggies? Or drinking hot peppermint green tea? (Trader Joe’s has a fantastic peppermint green tea). Peppermint helps calm cravings I think – plus its relaxing. And green tea surpresses appetite plus its loaaaaaaded with tons of good for you antioxidants. plus the hot water fills up your bellah.
I’ve upped my water drastically in the past 2 weeks and notice that my body is ACTUALLY thirsty more often than its hungry. The water fills up my stomach nicely. Maybe try forcing yourself to drink a tall glass of water before AND after each meal??? Might help fill you up. Plus when I’m this bloated w/ water the last thing I want to do is eat :-p hope this helps!
Lauren @ Eater not a runner says
Yeah the more tired I am, the more I eat. 4pm can be a dangerous time!
