Thanksgiving is my FAVORITE day of the year.
Yes. Without a doubt. No contest. Favorite-est day ever.
I believe “All things in moderation – except moderation on Thanksgiving.”
So I’m already gearing up for an epic feast. I made cornbread casserole for my family. It’s my signature dish.
And this year I’ll also be making Sweet Potato Casserole and probably some a new and improved version of the OG Green Bean Casserole.
My fam does a very traditional American Thanksgiving – no Mexican food in sight. Which I never thought twice about until SkinnyRunner asked me the other day. It is kinda funny because we do tamales at Christmas and beans with Easter brunch. But, T-day is the usual.
Anyway.
Since I love food and all I’d love to hear – What is your favorite T-day dish?
Do you have a signature dish you’re making?
Can you share a family recipe that will change my life?

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of ALL time. I just get to eat all day, no other expectations, what’s not to love?
I absolutely LOVE the Pumpkin Gingerbread with Spiced Buttercream from Oh She Glows (http://ohsheglows.com/recipage/?recipe_id=6001695)
Hillary says
I love mashed potatoes, stuffing and green bean casserole…the good ol’ “back of the French’s fried onion can Green Bean Casserole”. YUM!
My husband and I are doing a traditional Thanksgiving with my family early in the day with all of the above and turkey of course! Afterward, we are having a “friendsgiving” that evening with some less conventional dishes!
Annie says
My brother-in-law smoked the turkey the one year we went to my sister’s house for Thanksgiving. It was life changing! Best way to do the turkey, hands down.
I’m making my mom’s mashed potatoes, buttery and creamy goodness!
Heidi says
I am Australian, so all of this sounds a little strange quite frankly. Very well aware of the day and meaning behind it but the food mainly just sounds odd! Mean this with respect by the way : )
Erika says
Ahh mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce…my two favorite dishes.
Kate says
I love stuffing and mashed potatoes more than I can even say.
Kimberly says
My dad’s pumpkin pie. I won’t let him in my house without it! 🙂

i LOOOOOOVE stuffing. I think it’s because it’s mostly bread. mmmm carbs…
Kirsten says
My signature dish that I bring to both our Thanksgiving celebrations are my cranberries. They’re super yummy. When cooking them I add canned mandarin oranges and lots of brown sugar. Yummy! Last year I also made your cornbread casserole and it was a hit so I’ll be making that this year as well.
Stephanie says
I love sweet potato casserole, the fresh rolls and all the desserts! This year I am making Paula Deen’s pumpkin cheesecake and this sweet potato dish.

Can i vote ANYTHING carbs? Yup — I mean I love me some turkey on Thanksgiving, but I’m all about the carby and starchy side dishes.
Holly says
My favorite dish is homemade creamed corn with bacon and jalapeño!!
Stephenie says
Thanksgiving is great I love turkey with stuffing and gravy. Quick recipe for you: 2 cans of white corn
2 can yellow corn
1pkg of cream cheese
1 stick of butter
Drain corn then throw in crockpot with butter and cream cheese. Cook on high till butter and cream cheese melt. Then serve. It’s not very healthy but tastes so good!
Ganeeban says
Sweet Potato casserole, our fam uses coconut and brown sugar instead of marshmallows! The BEST ever 🙂 And as stereotypical as it is, if there isn’t rice it isn’t a good Thanksgiving in my book!

Both of those casseroles sound and look amazing! I really love the turkey with some homemade cranberry sauce! I am going to be doing a dessert of Oreo balls, they are a huge hit!
Suegene Wagner says
I have a mashed potato thing I make…… Here are the deets:
A bunch of potatoes, peeled, quartered, cooked until soft (big bag – I like to use Yukon gold)
1 package cream cheese (I use the low fat)
1 stick butter
1 8 oz sourcream (again low or no fat like it really helps)
Sprinkle of paprika and Jane’s crazy salt as needed
Mixmaster it all up and bake it. You can add more cream cheese/butter/sour cream to taste and texture. You can also add sauted onion or even the onion flakes. This is extremely forgiving recipe and a huge hit with the fam because it is just so freaking decadent.
Megan says
I love sweet potato casserole and dessert. And, onion dip with chips. I know it’s not really Thanksgiving-y, but it’s something that we only really make if people are coming and we need a quick appetizer.
Megan says
Thanksgiving is my FAVORITE also. Oh so good!!!! When it comes to recipes they are all stored in my Dad’s head / chicken scratch!
Kelly @ Kelly Runs for Food says
Sweet potato casserole is my absolute favorite! That and corn pudding.

I am a pure dessert kind of girl….all the above are great but just give me the Pumpkin pie/whipped cream and or Apple pie/vanilla ice cream and I will be the happiest pilgrim EVER!
And yes, I do have more than one slice …..YUM!
Jodea @ chillichocolatelove says
Cornbread looks sooooo amazing. I wish we had T Day in the UK!

My favorite is the turkey…..brined. Seriously, I will never cook it another way, perfectly juicy every time.
Oh and always room for pumpkin pie!

My favorite Thanksgiving Day dish is mashed potatoes…but when I go to my Italian side of the family, they don’t think it’s necessary to serve them!! Instead, there’s usually lasagna right next to the turkey.

So funny about the Mexican at holidays – we always have something Italian – lasagne, gnocchi, who knows what else.
My favorite dish is my grandmother’s green beans. She sautés them in an entire stick of butter with almonds. Probably safer we are going out to eat this year!
Becky @ Olives n Wine says
I just called my mom in a panic yesterday because I couldn’t find my favorite recipe, ha! I won’t be going home this year but I will be making my mom’s signature cranberry fluff salad. Seriously amazing – cranberries, marshmallows, pineapple, pecans, cool whip and more. Can’t wait to eat 20 servings of it next Thursday 😉
Kelly says
Stuffing stuffing and more stuffing!
Mashed potatoes are good too!
C. says
My favorite T-giving dish is anything with potatoes… potato in all forms, get on my plate. Have you ever had “party potatoes”? It might be a Midwestern thing. Beyond unhealthy and delicious. Something similar to this: http://thanksgiving.food.com/recipe/party-potatoes-196675.
Suegene Wagner says
Adore this. Yum. (but am a midwesterner :))
Jen @ Jens Best Life says
Hah, I asked my (Indian) boyfriend that same question and he gave me the same answer. Every other holiday his family does Indian food, but Thanksgiving is super “traditional.”
And I am alllll about the stuffing. My favorite dish by far. I used to get so mad when my dad made fancy stuffings instead of the basic classic!
Heather @ Run Eat Play says
I LOVE Thanksgiving! My favorite is cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes. So good.
