Hello! How are you?
I am freezing. FREEZING. I am sipping hot tea like it’s my job and am basically wearing all the clothes I own. It’s uncomfortable and I’m still cold actually…

So, I’ve decided to move to the equator. It’s too cold here. The decision has been made. Done and done.
But until I go I am enjoying the heck out of all my favorite warming things!! I cannot live without the following:
1. I love my clock that tells the indoor and outdoor temperature. The outside temp is not working because I think it froze to death. But, it’s nice interesting to know that it’s only 61 degrees in my house. You know, so I can complain with more information.
This is the clock I got for Christmas last year and I have it right by the door so I know what time and temperature it is as I race out the door when I’m late.
2. Since it’s obviously frigid in SoCal right now I stay close to my space heater at all times.
But, it gets better – I forgot I had a warming blanket!! SCORE. So, I turn it on before I go to bed so it warms it up and turn it off when I crawl into bed.
Note: I do not sleep with it on. In college I hurt my groin muscle and put my mom’s old heating pad on my leg when I was watching TV and sleeping. One day I was nice and comfy sitting with the heat while probably watching Grey’s Anatomy or something. I got up and went to the restroom and when I came back IT WAS ON FIRE!!!!! I screamed and hit the fire with a couch pillow (sorry mom). My lil brother came running in (he was like a baby or something) and screamed too. We like to scream.
But the moral of the story is I wouldn’t sleep with a heating pad. The end.
3. When I’m brave enough to leave the house I sport my ear headband thing.
4. Today was a rest day so I did some strength training and ate some eggs. Seriously, I ate breakfast like this on the floor.
And some berries with a side of cat.
Question: What’s your favorite thing this week?
Susy says
You look like you’re going running where I’m at, in Montana with snow and subzero temp. I can’t wait to get back home to SoCal and run.
Sue says
I stay in the equator…come visit 🙂
Kristen says
My favorite thing this week is my new hot tea of choice. Yogi Tea! I have the Kava Stress Relief blend and I adore it.
🙂
Deborah Brooks @ Confessions of a Mother Runner says
61 is a heat wave! WE break out our shorts over here on the east coast in those temps. Great for running too!
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
You’re making me miss my old electric blanket- I used to do the same thing! Put it in bed, turn it on, then wait until the bed gets all toasty and crawl in 🙂
Rob Runs says
We’re getting up to 35 here today, with freezing rain out there – it was like 65 in the house so I just cranked it up to 71 and now I am sweating but too lazy to go downstairs and adjust the thermostat again. Looks like it’s still raining tomorrow, but a high of 63. Ah, Maryland. I have a heated mattress pad that I sleep with and it’s the best thing ever because even 200 pounds of dog don’t keep me warm enough at night.
Best part of the week was my New Year’s Day 5k. Not that it was a good or fun run, but I got to see all my favorite running buddies.

That heating pad story is why I have one that shuts off automatically. Growing up my parents had one that looked like it had been crafted during the civil war era. Even on low and wrapped with a towel ( super safe, I know), it burned me so many times. I think my mom still uses it.
Mave says
It is 2:30am and 72 degrees (F) where I live in Florida. Still, 61 degrees is RIDICULOUSLY cold for indoors! We’d be blasting the heater if that was the case in my house! It’s going to be in the 80’s the next few days, so no heating blanket here. Those things scare the bejesus outta me!
AJ @ NutriFitMama says
First, 61 degrees is WAY too cold for indoors. I would die. I don’t know what the temps are where you are right now, butI think I’ll move to the Equator as well! I miss SoCal weather, but it actually DOES get cold there (I know some people think it doesn’t!) so I totally feel ya on that one. I have never used a heating blanket before. I have always been too nervous because of all the stories I have heard!
Losing Lindy says
we have electric heat here in Chicagoland and it is crazy expensive, so we keep it at 55 except from 6:00 to 7:30 at night and then it is 63. We have blankets, sweatshirts, and slippers.
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan says
It’s in the 30’s here, though it’s warmer in my house than it is in yours.
My favorite thing this week is smoothies – I’m on a kick.
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub says
It kills me reading about how cold you are. If I was visiting you I’d probably be wearing shorts! Burning your privates off though totally not cool and not worth the warmth!
Alisha @ Real Girl Running says
Ha! Yesterday it was 44C here (about 111F) and we are all about keeping cool … airconditioning, ice water, and watermelon. Funnily enough, we don’t want to go outside in this weather either!
Today I’m having an overnight date with my husband at a fancy hotel, so I’m excited about that!
Kate @ SoCal Runner Gal says
HAHAHAHA. Agreed on all accounts. It is effing FREEZING in southern CA right now. I didn’t move here for this! WTF!? I want a heated blanket! That sounds amazing!
Tricia @ A Couple of Dashes says
Oh my gosh! That happened to me too with a heating pad! Well I guess not that exact thing, but something similar. Mine got really hot and burnt my back and left a mark on the couch! It hurt really bad!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
It’s cold up here in NorCal too. My favorite thing from this week was the fine Prosecco I drank on NYE! Too bad it’s all gone. Have a Happy Friday:) Stay warm!
Sarah @ KS Runner says
61 degrees is really cold inside. It’s like 18 degrees here right now, which isn’t super pleasant if I have to go outside. I complain if my house is under 65. Over 65 and I can put on my big girl panties and deal with it, but less than that is freaking cold.
I had surgery a few years ago and I had to sleep propped up. I had alot of back pain from the surgery so I was keeping a heating pad on my back. I fell asleep with a hoodie on and the heading pad on my back one night and in the middle of the night my husband came to check on me and I was breaking a sweat so he woke me up and was all concerned that I probably had an infection and was going to die (he can be dramatic). As he’s trying to pull of my hoodie to get my temp down, I told him he could probably just turn off the heating pad now. Now he won’t let me sleep with one anymore and my mom got me one with an auto off feature that year for Christmas. At least it didn’t start a fire! Yikes!
Cat @ Breakfast to Bed says
it was 39 degrees outside when I was shopping today, and I was schvitzing. too warm for how I was dressed.
Because, the NORTHEAST.
I am always set into a bit of a chuckle when my friends who live in LA complain about the cold. 😉
runeatrepeat says
I know. I’m the worst with the cold.
Brooke@runningonchange says
I got a bottle of Mascato this week, and I have found my new favorite wine!
runeatrepeat says
What kind is it? Show me the wine!!!
Daisy @ Fit Wanderlust Runner says
I have been in San Diego for the past few days and it has been super cold for SoCal. And my parents refused to turn on the heater!
runeatrepeat says
At least they have one! (But really my mom never turns on the heater, but finally did this week because it was so cold.)
Courtney@The TriGirl Chronicles says
Aww, how cute, you’re bundled up in the sunshine. My favorite running weather is teens/20’s, dark, and snowing. But you look cozy at least =P
Sally @ sweat out the small stuff says
Definitely my New Year’s Eve. Can’t remember the last time I kissed the man I love at midnight. And we stood out on his deck and looked at all the stars in the sky. Quite romantical. Unfortunately the rest of the week has sucked. My dog has been very I’ll. I’m hoping he will be 100 percent in another day or two.
runeatrepeat says
Get well soon pup <3
Angela @ HonestlyAngela says
61 is way too cold for indoors! That heating pad story is terrifying. One time my hair dryer caught on fire while i was blow drying my hair. It took me a long time to recover from that!
runeatrepeat says
Ah! That is really scary 🙁 I need a new blow dryer too.
Cheri @ Overactive Blogger says
My grandma fell asleep with a heating pad even though they totally tell you not to do that, and totally burned her back. DO NOT fall asleep with it!
Sarah @ KS Runner says
I can attest to that! Falling asleep with it is not a good idea, I thought my insides were boiling when I did it! That is when I decided it would be a good idea to have one that automatically turns off after an hour!
runeatrepeat says
That is really scary!
