Hello! This morning I did an 8 mile run and was happy to find the water fountain along the route has been fixed and I don’t have to tongue the spout to actually get some h2o. Fancy.
Then, I headed to my mom’s house because my parents needed me to take my little brother to 8th grade registration at school today.
We had to pick up his schedule, books and PE clothes. And somehow I got stuck actually carrying the load. I’m considering this my strength work for the day.
On the way home from another ‘back to school’ task something caught my eye…
“Wait. Holy shit! That’s a Dunkin Donuts!?!?!” – Things Monican would have said if her 13 year old little brother wasn’t in the car
I proceeded to carefully make a U turn and declare that I was living in the parking lot until it opened.
I was inappropriately excited. It’s ridiculous. And Matt doesn’t understand why I’d be so excited about a place that, “doesn’t even have good donuts, but has amazing iced coffee” – Monican.
(Top from Stitchfix)
Then I did a little happy dance,
that was probably more like this.
This soon to be Dunkin Donuts is in Downey, CA for those of you that asked via instagram. It’s super close to Pico what what where I grew up and I will probably be buying real estate next door very soon. I check land info at UP Bhulekh. Want to buy property in Canada? HomesEh offers a seamless experience from search to settlement. I also checked out the Home Nation listing for a mobile home to try something new.
For those seeking the expertise of a seasoned asset management team, adept at collaborating with funds, property firms, private investors, and developers, and specializing in nationwide property acquisitions for major occupiers, the ultimate destination lies in the exceptional consultancy services provided by B8 Real Estate.
After that excitement Matt and I headed to Subway for lunch. Except it was really crowded so we got our food to go and headed back to my parent’s.
The good think about eating at home is all the FREE AVOCADO courtesy of the tree in the back. Love.
Then, I went through our Halloween costume boxes. I had an idea for my Disneyland Half Marathon running costume, but now I’m having second thoughts.
I went to the store to get some supplies for a Merida costume yesterday, but now I’m thinking running with my hair down in August is the worst idea ever. We’ll see what I decide…
Question: What would you rather have – FREE Avocado or FREE Coffee?
Julie says
I grew up in Downey!! I live in Texas and we have Dunkin Donuts everywhere here…I wasn’t aware that there were NONE in California!
Runwright says
Free avocado, which is my fav! I don’t drink coffee usually, occasionally a tiny splash to make a mocha. But avocado, I don’t want to have to do without, ever.
Michelle says
I’m doing the double dare this weekend. Good luck I’ll keep an eye out for you!
MaryEllen says
The bag in the back to school picture… LOVE it!! Where did you get it? 🙂
Shannon in Tustin says
Free avos, all day long!
I love Matt’s shirt; madly. #goblue
Whittier, huh? I do make drives to my mom’s house in Thousand Oaks and detours through Whittier are very possibly in our future!
Have fun at Disney this weekend. It wasn’t this hot last year as I recall. Loved that race and wish I could do another.
runeatrepeat says
No, Downey right off Firestone.
Sarah says
Free coffee easily! You are so backwards about Dunkin, the coffee is horrible (basically water), but the donuts are AWESOME. I can say that since I live in Quincy MA the home of Dunkins.
april says
as much as i love coffee, i’d pick free avocados any day! =)
Suzanne says
I’ll admit it. I take for granted my proximity to Dunkin’. I can walk there from my office. So happy for you that you’ll be so close to one now! Not sure if you’ll be able to use the DD Perks app, but it’s great because you only need your phone to buy one when you’re on the run (literally!)
I would pick free avocados over free coffee.
Melissa @TryingtoHeal says
I just saw an article in the Register about the THREE that are opening in Orange County/LA County before the end of the year…then 25 within the next few years? Yeah, your wish has come true woman! LOL
Shannon in Tustin says
They can hurry on up with that OC building please!
Laura says
Free avocado!! I live within walking distance of one of two Dunkin Donuts in my town. I never go there!! Usually the line is out on the street for the drive thru.
Shawna says
ahhhh free avocado and free coffee would both be amazing all the timeee. we have free coffee at work, so i’d choose an avocado tree at this point. luckyyyy. i’m actually the only NYer who isn’t a fan of Dunkin’ Donuts, i believe — can’t get into their coffee at all. def a Starbucks girl.
Beks says
Free coffee OR free avocado?! Don’t make me choose, Monica!
We’re getting a Dunkin’ in Council Bluffs, Iowa, too. Sadly, it’s on the wrong side of town (by that, I mean, about five miles away from where it’s convenient for me), and about two blocks away from Krispy Kreme (Again, wrong side of town, super inconvenient). I’ll still go, just not during the work week. 🙁
Deb says
No contest – AVOCADO! Um, will you please send me a weekly supply? Thanks! 🙂
Ashley @ Kick Ash Mom.com says
Free avocado for sure! All season round? That would be heaven.
Sue says
I’ll take coffee…especially on mornings like this. Happy for you that DD is just a stone throwaway.
Kristin @ W [H] A T C H says
free avocado is the stuff dreams are made of.
Sally @ sweat out the small stuff says
Avocado. 🙂
Losing Lindy says
free coffee, hands down
they have a rewards program now
Mal says
Dunkin? Really? Their iced coffee tastes like sugar water mixed with cream. Starbucks is where it’s at.
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog says
Free avocado or free coffee? Probably the toughest question ever ever. Avocado. Coffee. I don’t know!
PS I just back from a trip to Boston and there was a Dunkin on every corner, it was paradise!
Aine @ Awks Irish Girl says
Oh my gosh YES. You are Merida!!! So excited to see this costume now that’s definitely happening 😉
Flower says
Free coffee and not to rub it in but I live in Clearwater and have a house in Venice and both are less than a block from Dunkin Donuts. I enjoy iced coffee on the reg and I’m not sorry about it either! 😉
cheryl says
Avocado–not a coffee fan!
Molly @alsoranagain.com says
Free coffee because the drinks I buy at Starbucks are almost as much as a car loan.
Cortney says
I moved from Atlanta (there are DDs everywhere) in March and I have not had one since 🙁 There is one opening on Wilshire and 12th in Santa Monica on September 2! I WILL be there for a HUGE iced coffee when they open at 5AM 😉
JE @ Wandering Portlander says
Since I currently consume a large amount of mediocre free coffee, I will have to go with free avocado. Sadly, I don’t think a tree would grow very well in my apartment.
Linda @ Fit Fed and Happy says
I think I’ll go with avocado! But now im tempted to try out what coffee blended with avocado. 🙂
karleen says
wha??????? Dunkin Donuts? When I saw this post, I thought you saw one the OC where I also live. But Downey’s too far to be that excited yet….maybe they’ll build another more south!
runeatrepeat says
I’m really surprised they’re starting in Downey, especially because the other one is in San Diego! I thought they’d start south and move up.
Desiree @ RunSmiling says
OMG I would choose free avocadoes all day long! And you have an avocado tree in your backyard?!? I’m living in the wrong state.
Beth @ Running with the Sunrise says
I have a busted water fountain on my running route, too. It was a sad day when I first found out it was broken…thirsty Beth for sure. I think I’d probably choose free coffee over avocado…it’s a tough choice, but I really can’t function without coffee. Enjoy the Dunkin Donuts when it opens!
runeatrepeat says
One time during a HOT HOT HOT long run I was sooooo excited to see a water fountain and then when I realized it was broken I almost had a nervous breakdown.
Emily says
Free avocado hands down! Not even a contest. Can’t stand the smell of coffee since being pregnant…not even 5 months postpartum!
Kelsie says
Avocado hands down!
Eva says
Yes, I probably wouldn’t run with my hair down in August. I just went for a run during lunch. I could only do 4 miles. Well, maybe I could’ve done more but I had to head back to work too and it was freaking hot! I don’t know how you do it down there. Here in SF we don’t even make it to 80! It was probably 74 or so.
Also, when you said “the best socal announcemnt” and I saw the fountain I thought it was raining and now there was water in the fountain. The things that go through my brain 🙂
Hillary says
Why must I choose???
