Even though I ate my way through yesterday I woke up HUNGRY today. I had half a banana to try and stall breakfast. I like to eat with Ben on Sundays since it’s our only day to have a leisurely breakfast.
Nope. The naner didn’t cut it so I made an egg sandwich washed down with iced coffee. Ben was still in bed at this point so I decided to go for a run.
I donut do NOT run on Sundays unless it’s a race weekend, but I haven’t done any legit two-a-days in preparation for the Relay. So, I decided running on running on tired legs was helping the same cause and went for it. I did 7 miles on tired legs for my two-a-day effort of the week.
I was going to do nine miles, but got a call from my mom that our meeting time should be earlier. I called Ben, hitched a ride, took a quick shower and made lunch to eat on the road.
I cut the run because we had plans to attend The Festival of Books at USC today.
Ben loves books (as our overflowing bookcase proves). We really need a library card.
The weather was perfection and this place was packed! We didn’t end up buying any books because they were pretty picked over by the time we got there.
I packed some snacks – celery and string cheese.
I also stole a bite of Ben’s turkey sandwich…
and ate half a grapefruit. I have the most random obsession with them right now!
On the way home we stopped a local Mexican restaurant for taco salads (for the girls) and burritos (for the boys).
I LOVE that they are generous with the guacamole! But, there are barely any veggies under this thing. Note to self: ask for it without the taco shell next time. It’s so hard not to eat it!
Ben and Matt are doing math and I’m blogging
While we were gone my dad picked a ton of avocados and oranges from our tree! I’m taking all this home. Stay tuned for 101 ways to eat avocado on Run Eat Repeat this week
I finally joined Instagram and took this picture on my walk (before I realized I was going to run!). I don’t really know how it works, but my user name is RunEatRepeat and I take pictures of random stuff. The end.
Now I’m craving a good book. I love memoirs or true stories – any good suggestions?

Was sad that it wasn’t at UCLA this year! I’m so used to it being there
Lindsey says
Send some avocados to me!!!! You hit the jackpot getting all of those. Holy moly! Or holy guacamole rather!
Deb says
What can you do with so many avocados? Won’t they spoil before you eat them all???
runeatrepeat says
My mom actually disperses them to family and friends. But, once they are ripe you can peel/slice them and freeze them so they last longer.
Deb says
So, they won’t turn brown in the freezer? I use them in my juices in the morning…This would make them more of a smoothie. I already freeze my bananas and use the food saver to suck out all of the air…works really well. Considering using it for the avocados…thoughts. Also, thanks for replying. Have a great day.
Amber K says
I love memoirs of funny women so I always suggest Ellen Degenerous’s Seriously I’m Kidding and Tina Fey’s Bossypants. And a library card definitely comes in handy! I’ve been able to read so many good books without having to forgo paying my bills. 😉
Katie P says
I just finish reading “Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet”, a beautiful story love story during the Japanese internment of WWII.
Caitlin says
Very jealous that you were able to attend that event. I’m a total bookworm! If you are ever looking for books I recommend joining Goodreads. In terms of memoirs, Sideways on a Scooter is a great memoir about a journalist’s life living as a single woman from America in India.
Rebecca @ Miss Magnolia Munches & Moves says
Are all those avocados from one tree? If so, I need to plant a tree ASAP!
Leyna says
That is A LOT of avocados! I just finished “Born to Run” and it was pretty interesting. I have also read Imaculee Ilibagiza’s book “Left to Tell” about surviving the Rwandan genocide. It was a pretty powerful book and made me so frustrated that no one did more to stop this.
kendra says
if you want funny memoir writing, i love David Sedaris, Ayun Halliday or samantha bee.
nicole c says
Oh wow – avocado’s and oranges, they look amazing I’m jealous!
Ricole Runs says

The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls is a great memoir.
runeatrepeat says
My mom recommended that one to me! I think she’s tracking down her copy to lend me 🙂
Christine @ Joggin Happy says
The Gass Castle is really good! you can follow it with Half Broke Horses, also by Jeanette Wells. This one elaborates on the protagonist’s grandmother and that generation, very compelling
Sue says
Can have one of those avocados? Pretty please…
Ida says
Holy guacamole:)
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is one of the best books I’ve read in a while. That, and The Curios Incident of the Dog in the Night-time…
Jacqui Gonzales says
Darn if I had known you were coming today I would have found a way to meet you! I saw someone yesterday I thought was you but she said she wasn’t. I loved the LATFOB. And my book recommendation is Boyd Morrison. Saw him on a panel at the festival this morning and his books sound great (thriller type sorta Da Vinci Code) I picked up one and my mom Two more of his.

Tender at the Bone by Ruth Reichl is one of my favorites. It’s all about food and has recipes and she is just a wonderful storyteller.
Also, yay avocado!
Tara @ A Daily Dose Of Fit says
Have you inhaled Born To Run yet? So good. It’ll make you want barefoot shoes.
Yo Momma Runs says
Those avocados make me want to move to Cali.
I’m reading Girl in a Blue Dress right now. It’s a novel based on the life and marriage of Charles Dickens. Just started, but so far it’s not bad.
Megan @ Run Like a Grl says
I totally want just half of that basket of avocados! YUM! Can’t wait for recipes 🙂
I just learned how to use instagram this weekend too. I was taking pictures of everything I could find to edit them. So much fun!
Monica says
Oh and the best nonfiction book I’ve read lately is The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba. It’s very inspiring. I also really enjoyed Packing For Mars by Mary Roach. It’s all about being an astronaut and what it’s like to be in space. Her writing is very witty and thoroughly interesting.
Maren says
Our avocados here are pure crap. Hope you enjoy every single one of those!! yay for joining instagram!!! follow me too! @marenring
Monica says
I am so jealous of all those avocados! I could eat them for 3 meals a day and be perfectly content. I have a friend who swears by avocado ice cream. She says it’s the most amazing thing ever. I’ve never had it but I would totally try it.
Johnna says
I’m so so jealous of those avocados.
Have you read ‘Unbroken’ by Laura Hillenbrand? It’s about an Olympic runner turned WWII soldier, and is the best book I’ve read in a LONG time! Very inspiring.
Stephanie says
Well, in my former life (read: before I had four kids), I was a crime reporter, and knowing you were once a reporter as well I’ll hazard you might enjoy Edna Buchanan’s The Corpse Had A Familiar Face. It’s not as grisly as it sounds, just a great memoir from one of the country’s first serious staff female crime reporters (for the Mismi Herald). By the way – how did you get started with those kitchen sink salads?

Ooh, avocado with quinoa and black beans and sweet corn. Sounds awesome. I recently read Mennonite in a Little Black Dress. Very funny, touching stuff.

I bought a e-reader and I have been obsessed with book! I have to get my avocados from Costco, you are so lucky…
Leonor @ FoodfFaithFitness says
Avocados were on sale at costco. I made guacamole. Put it on sandwiches, and in my smoothie!

If you haven’t read it already, The Art of Racing in the Rain is amazing.
Christine @ BookishlyB says
I went yesterday (and blogged about it, of course). Despite it was at the rival school (USC booo) it was still fun and the weather was awesome. Yay for reading!

Grapefruits are amazing. Feel free to obsess over them without judgement. Also, those avocados look amazing.
Have you read The Concubine’s Daughter by Pai Kit Fai? It was really, really good. Follows the daughter of a Chinese concubine and, later, her daughter as they try and make a life in China.
Bugg says
Are you a Little House on the Prairie fan? If so (even mildly) I highly recommend Confessions of a Prairie Bitch by Alison Arngrim who played Nellie Olson. It’s a scream. A bit tough to start out with (some sexual abuse in her youth) but it was really really good. I literally could not put it down.
Reagan says
I have that same vegetarian shirt only in navy!
Eating as a Path to Yoga says
I loved Zeitoun. It is a memoir of what happened to an Arab-American family during Hurricane Katrina. I also loved Women Food and God by Geneen Roth.
Nicole (Apples and Arteries) says
I’d 2nd Zeitoun. I have a goal of 50 Books in 2012 and have write-ups/reviews on my site.
The titles you posted remind me of books that Jimmy Fallon features on his “Do Not Read” list. It’s a funny segment he does of actual books that have really wacky titles!
