Hello! How’s it going? This is week two of marathon training on a plan that only has me running 3 or 4 days a week and it is very frustrating. I woke up and just wanted to RUN (and eat) today. I like running. Running’s my favorite. But I was strong and decided to eat instead. So that worked out all right.
I ate an apple dipped in yogurt and nuts while cooking. The main course was an egg burrito. Just like I like it.
Post-workout I had raspberries on the way home. Fruit for life.
Yesterday I hit up Trader Joe’s for some of my favorite healthy foods … nuts, baby tomatoes, pre-chopped veggie mix, apples, PB, ginger beer (for Moscow Mules) and other random goodies.
I guess I’ve been holding out on Vegas because he inspected the bags looking for turkey deli meat. Ha! It’s his favorite and he knew I had some.
Since I couldn’t run today I hit up the gym for a strength class. I totally got my jiggly butt handed to me and it was great. I don’t want to waste my time in a fitness class, I want to feel like I got a great workout. The instructor for the Tuesday class is the best. She pushes us. She has great music. She has a rocking bod that I like to admire. No shame.
And sometimes she includes some risque moves to make ya feel seksi. Last week she made a point of saying, “How your butt looks is up to you. I can show you the moves, but you gotta do them!!!”
I love that. I keep thinking that now when I’m working out. Show the heck up and do the work if you want the results. How your butt looks is up to you.
And that brings me to the hot topic of the day…
What is the worst part of working out?
Is it waking up early?
Is it feeling your muscles burn?
Is it getting sweaty and smelly?
Is it feeling like a lame-o because you don’t know the workout moves?
Nope. None of those… It’s trying to figure out when to wash your hair.
The balance between not washing your hair everyday, but working out is the worst. You don’t want to look like a wet rata at school or work, but you don’t want to kill your hair with washing and drying and styling everyday. And sometimes it’s hard to tell how sweaty you’re going to get on a particular day.
What is a girl to do??? #FirstWorldProblems to the max.
Luckily, I work from home and my boss is kinda chill about me looking like a Sloppy McSlopperson so I’m waiting until tomorrow. Vegas is judging me, but I’m not worried about it.

showering period is not my favorite, but i really push it with the dirty hair. if i wash twice a week i consider it a win. its just such a pain! i’m lucky with some waves and thickness, so it hides fairly well. with every year passing, i care less and less about hygiene. mostly i do things for society, i.e., so i don’t smell like a barn animal…or look like one 🙂

I had this exact problem the other day! I didn’t wash my hair cos I was going swimming with some friends from my triathlete group. Then, it got cancelled. So I just ended up walking around looking gross for no reason! Dry shampoo for life.

Dry shampoo is the only way to go!! I’m training for an Ironman and only wash my hair after swim workouts. Salon Grafix brand is the best dry shampoo I have found. I blow dry most of the sweat out, put in dry shampoo, do my makeup and then finish blowing out my hair.

I also hate that I have to wash my hair all the time because it gets so sweaty. But for me I just don’t like that I have to do the laundry afterwards. Man my clothes stink after a good workout.

The worst part of working out is having to poop while working out. It happened to me on my run today. I was making good time, but then I had to poop. I walked for a bit until that feeling went away. Then, when I was super close to being done (if I had continued running), I had to walk. GRRR!!!
I washed my hair today because I try to keep it to three days a week – MWF.

I workout every day during the week but only wash my hair every other day. The struggle is real. Weekends are fly by the seat of my pants when it comes to washing hair. It depends on where I am going and who I am going to see that day.
Jill @ Champagne for Everyday says
It is ABSOLUTELY figuring out when to wash your hair. Fitting a good workout into your daily routine is such a challenge. You’re not just taking time to do the work out, but you have to account for the hair washing too! Great post. I really appreciate your fitness instructor’s lesson: “How your butt looks is up to you”. We’re always looking for the easy way out, but you just have to do it!

The struggle is real. I rock short hair for this very reason. I am a big sweaty hair would look like a bird’s nest if I didn’t wash it everyday. #curlyhairdontcare

The hardest part of working out for me is just getting started! I try and wash my hair every other day, which means I also wear it up every other day. It depends on how sweaty I get but I blow dry it on the days that I don’t want to wash it and then either style it as usual or throw it up in a messy bun.

OMG YESSSSS this seriously is the biggest pain ever, especially when you opt not to wash and then something comes up where you need to have your hair on point!

I took yesterday as a rest day. Took the dog for a walk, but that does not count as a workout!!! That said, I still washed my hair this morning because I gave it an oil treatment to help with the dryness and this morning it looked greasy. It was so soft and silky yesterday, with an amazing shine. But this morning …. uh, yeah, you got the picture. The hardest part of working out is putting on my sneakers to go. You know, the gym bag sits by the door, ready at all times. I just need to say, “Ok, let’s do this!” and the rest is easy.

Oh my goodness, that hair thing is no joke! That’s my biggest struggle. I end up just not washing it most of the time, to the point that when I do, my husband points out how shocked he is. I am so disgusted with myself, but that’s what dry shampoo is for, right?
No, I just need to suck it up and wash it more.

Ponytails for lyfe. I think the worst part of training is either actually getting up and getting ready (once I get going its fine) or being so tired I don’t want to go out and do other fun stuff. Getting old sucks!
Elena says
The hardest part of working out is letting myself chill about housework……..I have to realize I can’t do everything all the time so if I want to work out sometimes my laundry is behind or my dresser is dusty.
I did workout today (5 miles) and I washed my hair. On work days it’s a must as my hair is fine and straight. Weekend hair washing is optional though 🙂

Long time reader but first comment — when I read the italicized “what’s the worst part of working out?” I thought it was a real question for comments not a rhetorical question and I was all “UGH washing my hair” and then laughed when you also said it. The struggle is so, so real.

I have been training for a half marathon for the past month and half or so (my race is Nov. 22nd) and I think the hardest part is still getting myself to the gym after a long day of sitting at my desk. Now I know that sitting at a desk isn’t considered healthy lately but after doing it 9-5, all you really want to do is go home and sit down more but I know that I can’t! And yes, deciding when to wash my hair since I shower daily is pretty tough.

Omg #truth on the washing the hair bit! Mine is also being too tired to shower but know I stink so i have to. A good instructor makes the class so much better!
Katie O says
Getting out of bed is definitely the hardest. Run and workout class – yes, shower – yes, shampoo – no. Thank goodness for spray dry shampoo!
Jill @ RunEatSnap says
LOL! This is a struggle for me as well. Guys have it so easy – shower and go. But my hair is thick and curly and it takes a lot of effort to dry and tame it. Which is why it’s pretty much always up in a ponytail or bun because I workout at lunch time at work so I don’t want to wake up early to shower and do my hair when I know in a few hours I’ll be working out.
Sally @ sweat out the small stuff says
Finding the time with all my other commitments. I am not a morning person and I have a 2 hour commute to work and a dog who needs me and freelance work and blogging in the Eve’s. Ugh. So frustrating. I would work out more if I didn’t have all this other life crap.
I don’t wash my hair often because it is naturally curly but rinsing it with warm water is a must to get the salty sweat out and I condition it every time.
Today I overslept and didn’t wash it but I didn’t work out either 🙂
