Hello! How’s it going?
Last night I hit up a new-to-me restaurant in Westminster – Cajun Islands. I spotted a Groupon for dinner and knew I had to invite my brother and Heather to join – they LOVE seafood.
Actually my brother has been a seafood connoisseur since just after high school. He and his friends would hit up small places in Long Beach and made the rule that they would only eat seafood within 15 miles of the ocean. (Meanwhile I was eating Del Taco.)
So, this place fit the bill. Add in a good deal via Groupon and you’ve got yourself a dinner.
But, I have to confess something…
the real reason I invited them was to see this doll. She is my favorite.
These peeps are all right too.
The dinner included 2 pounds of shrimp, clams or crawfish OR 1 pound of one of those and a lobster tail. Then, you pick your flavor and spice level. I went with Kamikaze and HOT. I live dangerously.
We started with Cajun fries and beverages. I was a little dehydrated from the previous night’s festivities so I ordered the fresh coconut water with coconut pulp – it was delicious.
I tied on my bib and was ready to go! I’m a messy eater in the best of circumstances, so I knew this meal was going to get extra messy!!
By the end I was covered in the spicy sauce up to my elbows and might have even gotten some on the ceiling. And it was awesome. I don’t have any ‘after’ pictures because I tucked my phone away from the delicious chaos of our table.

Question: Are you good at eating ‘peel and eat’ seafood?
I’ve only done this twice before so I’m not an expert but I love getting into my food so I’m definitely going to be doing this again.

I do NOT like “getting into my food”. No no no. No bones, no shells, no tails and certainly no heads or eyeballs! I do not do well in foreign countries :/
Sue says
I admire friends who can eat these with chopsticks! No kidding.

Wow Monica. Your niece is such a little dolly. She’s so cute!

We were in texas one time… and had bbq shrimp. The actual owner of the joint came by and told us to eat the peel and all… I was a little skeptical, but he quickly pointed out some locals actually eating everything but the tails. They would suck the flavor right out and then go to town without having to undress the shrimp. I tried it for 1 shrimp. PASS!

I grew up in MD so we ate crabs a lot. I would usually get frustrated with the amount of time for little payoff and just buy a giant container of crab meat. Now thats the way to go.

My husband and I love love love crab legs. They can get kinda pricey, but it’s our traditional Valentine;s dinner. Look forward to it every time!

Yup, way too messy for me! I’m not a picky eater but I don’t like to do too much work. Your niece is adorable 🙂

I’m terrible with “peel and eat” seafood…I actually don’t really eat that stuff because I find it too annoying and messy:)

Please visit south Louisiana (west of New Orleans)
to really enjoy peel and eat seafood.
Carol Landry says
Agreed. I am from Louisiana and it pains me to see these types of places anywhere else in the country. Most people think that Cajun just means “hot”.
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan says
I make a huge mess with “peel and eat” seafood! It’s SO good though!

What a cutie!! I can’t stand it!
