This weekend while I was ordering Christmas gifts for my brothers (two peeps crossed off my list!) I ordered a little something for myself…
I bought the Oxygen Diet Solution book. In my defense Mr. Amazon suggested it to me (based on other things I looked at) and when someone suggests you read a diet book it’s best you just do it before it all goes to shit. Thanks Mr. A.
But really, I am a big fan of Oxygen magazine and love that they push strength training and clean eating over crash diets and ellipticizing. (Yes, I do a lot of cardio, it’s my thing – I appreciate that the mag tries to guide me in another direction.)
I don’t know why, but I went a little crazy with the grocery shopping this week and bought a metric ton of vegetables. Seriously. Romaine, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, zucchini, TJ’s greens mix, huge box of organic spring mix, green beans…
Anyway. I cooked up more of the greens into a cheesy frittata and served it up with zucchini (fried up with balsamic and spices).
Then, I had a major baking fail. I tossed it into the trash. Boo.
Luckily, after that I had a baking win… That I ate.
I’m struggling with work-life balance these days, so I’m going to log off and read for a while now. I wanted to read Life of Pi before I see the movie and my mom lent me a book that I need to crack open! Good night!

Logging off to read! Love it. I constantly have a book at my side. While I love the Internet and everything it has to offer, I can’t get over the feel of an actual physical book.
Amy @ Writing While Running says
Life of Pi is so good! It takes a while to get into the story, but do not give up! Once you get into it, you won’t put it down (and then we will all wonder where you are!). Ha. Good luck getting your stuff done and have a great race! An afternoon start would be so weird to me; I would not know what to do with myself all day until the race began.

I read Life if Pi years ago and got my entire family to read it because it was so amazingly good I couldn’t NOT share it.
YES, the first few chapters ARE slow. KEEP READING! You need the “set up” and trust me, you won’t regret hanging in there!
Everyone had said that the movie was AMAZING!
I’ll be seeing it this weekend!

I’ve been contemplating reading the Life of Pi too. You’ll have to let us know what you think of it. I’ve been wanting to ask you how you stay on task working from home. I also work from home and I struggle BIG TIME with staying focused. 🙁

I feel like those diet/healthy books simply say a variation of the same things we all know to do…..eat less processed, eat more natural, and move your butt. It amazes me how much money the fitness/health industry makes.
Jlr says
and when I say “all”, I mean people like you who are immersed in fitness; I can not speak for the general population. But really, with all the healthy stuff we get slammed with on the news, tv shows, radio, ect….I would be surprised to find an average joe who didn’t know that eating fruit was better then doughnuts.
runeatrepeat says
I agree, I always take my mom’s magazines after she’s done with them and she always hands them to me and says, “Nothing new…” and I say, “Shocker…” and keep reading.

My baking failures I let sit for a couple days to dry out…then I turn them into bread pudding…I hate wasting stuff, so I had to come up with a solution. (Yes, I have that many failures lol) My favorite was carrot cake muffins that got burnt. I scooped out the insides for the bread pudding and it was amazing.
runeatrepeat says
Great idea!!!
Susan says
Amazon recommended that book to me too! I decided to order it today 🙂
runeatrepeat says
Supposedly it’s not out until Dec, but it came early!
Christine @ BookishlyB says
The whole work/life conundrum I’m sure is only compounded by the working at home. My husband was freelancing for a few months earlier this year and it was interesting to watch; I was jealous of the flexilibity, but the pressure to be on the job way after everyone else’s quitting time was tough.
Tonia says
Life of Pi was an excellent movie! I heard somewhere that if you haven’t read the book yet, you should see the movie first so that you don’t know all of the elements/twists of the story.
Melissa @TryingtoHeal says
such a great book! I just finished it a few months ago and can’t wait to see the movie!
Jessica@SweatIsMySanity says
I’ve heard it’s a great book and movie. I’d prefer to read the book first too but I doubt I’ll have a chance. BTW, I’m down 20 lbs. woo hoo! Check out my BEFORE & AFTER pics.

I’m beginning to think the work/life balance is an impossible dream that we’re just conditioned to chase, always thinking we should be living our lives differently even though we’re already doing a pretty great job. Hope the reading is fun!
Monica says
Can’t wait for your review on Life of Pi! I’m looking fwd to some down time filled with reading this Christmas 🙂
Haley @ The Sauc Apple says
Okay, so maybe the baking was a fail, but those muffin liners… SO CUTE!
runeatrepeat says
I like them too! But it’s funny – I sent Ben out for cupcake liners for my brother’s b-day and this is all he could find. Not sure if my brother appreciated the animal print 🙂
heather @ run eat play says
I love your cupcake liners!
I have been wanting to read Life of Pi! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it!

I started leaving the laptop in the other room at night. Then checking in on it right before I go to read. It seems to have helped.

I have a friend that keeps telling me to read Life of Pi but I haven’t gotten around to it yet! Let us know what you think of it!
Kim says
I would love to hear what you think of your new book. I love Oxygen!!!
Sara @ sarasmiles.com says
I want to read Life of Pi before the movie too and my sister in law has the book to lend me…she said she couldn’t get through it though but the movie trailer looks amazing…let me know what you think!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles says
I’ve heard great things about both the book and the movie…I need to give the book a read too!
And I find that Oxygen takes a better food/exercise approach than most fitness magazines, if you’re going to buy a diet book I figure they’re one of the better choices.
Sara says
I just started reading Life of Pi over the weekend. I too wanted to read it before seeing it in the theater. I struggled to get threw the first couple chapters. Did anyone else have the same problem??? Should I give it another attempt? Thanks!
Shani says
I want to read Life of Pi as well. Im reading Wheat Belly right now. Pretty interesting.
runeatrepeat says
I have that book on my shelf too! But I’m a skeptic, so we’ll see 🙂 Let me know what you think!
Jade says
I love that you just know that Amazon is a Mr…who else would suggest diet books? 🙂 Looking forward to seeing how you like the book. PS–you throw out baking fails?? Should I send you my address so you can mail them to my husband instead? He is great at eating anything and he will totally validate you by telling you completely sincerely that it was awesome!
runeatrepeat says
Ha! I would have tried to salvage them with a slather of PB, but they weren’t worth it and I only made 6 little cups.
Amanda @FancyOatmeal says
I love the recommendations from Amazon based upon what I’ve previous viewed or purchased. Because of my history, I’m recommended both “Mommy porn” (Fifty Shades of Grey) and baby supplies (Car seat)
Kathy says
I bought a new pair of BROOKS last night…thought you would appreciate my excitement since you are an ambassador of BROOKS and all….so funny the shoe loyalty people have. 😉
So excited to try them out later today too…

Woo-hoo! Brooks pride 🙂

I’ve heard it’s an amazing book! That’s next on my list once I finish ‘Gone Girl.’ Enjoy your downtime 🙂

Mmmm that fritartta zucchini combo looks delicious. I am trying to eat ‘clean’ this week (yep, I know it should be every week) so I also went a little vegetable crazy at the weekend, soooo delicious. Let us know what you think of the book!

Let me know your views on both books – haven’t read either though I’m more interested in Life of Pi.
