Grilled Cheese Topped with Egg

grilled cheese with over easy egg yolk

Hello! I am coming at ya live from the Toyota dealer’s waiting room. My car needs some basic service because ya know… it’s time to pay taxes and pay for car stuff and stub my toe all in one day. Life.

hello from the toyota dealer (600x800)

Luckily, I have a totally Pinterest worthy meal idea for ya that might help us get distracted by the internet so we don’t worry about the real world for a while.

This egg topped grilled cheese can really work for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I saw the idea on Instagram last week (I believe National Grilled Cheese Day just passed) and have been dreaming about it ever since.

I made the usual grilled cheese with some super Sharp Cabot Cheddar that the company sent me a while back. It’s lasted me because I try to savor it (even though that sandwich was the last of it).

i ate the whole wheel of cheese

Tip: Using SHARP Cheddar Cheese goes a long way so you don’t have to use too too much of it (unless you want to, like me). I think it’s better than picking a fat free version of cheese because you end up using less.

Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Egg on Top

  • 2 pieces of whole grain bread
  • Sliced Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • Butter
  • Egg(s)
  • Salt & Pepper

Directions: Cooked grilled cheese like a normal person. Set aside. Butter pan and cook an over easy or sunny side up egg. Place egg on sandwich and eat the crap out of it.

Question: When was the last time you had a good ‘ol grilled cheese?

Do you spend a lot of time on Pinterest??

Oh my Lord(e)…I want that in my face. Harry and I have a wall “chalkboard” to organize dinners for the week. *glances over* Tomorrow night says “Soup and sammich”. Guess what I’m having?! 😀

I heart the ever-living snot out of Pinterest. I get in trouble with it sometimes (Saturday mornings were meant for the long run, coffee, HGTV, and Pinteresting), but it keeps our weeks and meals organized.

Hate it when life happens like that. My life is due to happen like that next month (stupid car).

Grilled cheese looks great. One to pin. I go through phases with Pinterest. It was great for wedding planning, but I think I may have OD’d on it during that time.

I’m off to get an oil change/alignment tomorrow. The fun things of adulthood, right? This might be what I need to make for dinner tonight… it looks YUMMY!

I spend way too much time on Pinterest, but at least some of it is “productive” – it really helps me with lesson plans for my class of toddlers!

I really want to try this grilled cheese/egg combo, but I feel like I need to be hungover to fully appreciate it. 😉 It’s probably been a couple of months since I had a grilled cheese sandwich.

I’m so going to make this and eat the crap out of it!! Yum-o. Also…my MIL makes egg salad and then sticks it on bread with cheese. Grill that and eat it. Yes!

That grilled cheese with egg on too looks amazeballs!! Bacon on it too….I’ll def be making it!

I spend way too much time on Pinterest planning crafts, meals, parties, and outfits that I never seem to follow through with. I still love it though!!

I don’t want to be a d-bag but I have to tell you..this new layout is really unappealing (to me, at least). I think the front page looks really unorganized/scrambled and it immediately turns me off. I also find it hard to see what else you’ve posted and I find blog layouts that aren’t easy to scroll through to be cumbersome. I always end up not reading the blog anymore when I have to click through everything.

Thanks Andrea, I appreciate the feedback. Nothing is final and I’ll probably make a few tweaks based on some reader suggestions.
I wanted the layout Categorized for Running / Recipes / Lifestyle… because I know not everyone is into running or my recipes. But, it was a risk to try something so different from most blogs.
      Have a good one :)

i love the new layout! it looks really clean to me. and if you’re interested in the blogger them-self, then it’s worth taking the time and exploring the site a bit to find what you want (even though I still find it easy to see what i want).

I was just telling my husband about this the other day. Need to try this! I agree on the sharp cheddar. It has a lot of taste, so you don’t need a ton of it. I didn’t like grilled cheese as a kid (maybe because it was made with tasteless American cheese, whatever the heck that is). But now I love it. We’ll put in avocado and/or tomato most of the time. Add a side salad and/or soup and you’re good to go!

Ummm….yes, please! Sharp cheddar…whole grain…runny eggs! I’m drooling over here. How simple and yet…nope I never thought of it. I love cutting up sharp cheddar cheese and then buying these ridiculously over priced garlic pickles that I’m obsessed with and eating them together. I will certainly do the egg with the sandwich…I may have to try my yummy pickles with it as well! Thank you so much for sharing this…my muffin tops aren’t happy with you, but my tummy is!

Grilled cheese with egg on top?!?! YES!!! I mean I’ve had burgers with an egg, why not grilled cheese? It sounds amazing! I will definitely do that, next time I make grilled cheese. :)

I love your blog, and you post all sorts of great stuff, especially recipes, but I have to say this one takes the cake. I would never have thought to try this, but MAN that looks AMAZING!!!! I will definitely be making this asap! :)
